If you thought you had to wait until spring
to plant that new tree, think again.
That's great news. Now is actually
the best time to spruce up your landscape,
and Alex Kalonia shows us why in this week's Garden Guide.
We always call fall time second spring,
because even though a lot of our plants are getting ready to sleep,
now is the perfect time to plant trees and shrubs.
Plants not struggling against the summer heat,
so you get some really good rooting in the fall.
If you only shop for your plants in spring,
your landscape's probably looking tired right now.
That's why I love visiting garden centers
in autumn to see what's looking good.
It is a fantastic time to get hydrangeas
into your landscape. We want to add color.
The variety that I am most excited about is Little Lime Punch.
So you will get red blooms, pink blooms,
along with these pure white blooms.
Hydrangeas are one of the most expensive plants
to purchase at a florist.
So you can just go right outside, cut them, people put them in a vase,
stick a couple other little doodads in there,
and you have a beautiful fall vase.
Their flowers, fall foliage,
to me is just as valuable as their summer color. If you
only plant in spring,
you might miss out on some really beautiful evergreens like
Camellia, Akuba, and reblooming Azaleas.
I bet you didn't expect Azaleas blooming
in the middle of October.
And have you ever heard of an evergreen Magnolia? They
look exactly like this in the winter.
In the fall, you get these beautiful
cones on them and those big beautiful white blooms smell amazing.
I'm Alex, happy gardening!
