October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and tonight,
in an exclusive interview, a Valley woman is sharing
her story of survival after being stabbed more than 20 times.
Her attacker is now in prison, and we want to warn you,
some of the images you're about to see
and audio that you're about to hear are graphic.
Fox 10's Ellen McNamara has the story you'll only see right here.
In August of 2025,
Erin Hume's ex-boyfriend nearly killed her and attacked her two boys.
One of them called 911, and she spent weeks in the hospital recovering.
Well, tonight, she is sharing her story with us.
We also obtained the 911 call
and body camera video from that chaotic night.
A warning, though, that viewer discretion is advised.
911, what is your message?
August 22nd, 2025, a 12-year-old boy calls 911.
This is one of her ex-boyfriends. I don't know why they're here.
His mom's ex-boyfriend showed up late at night,
and the situation escalates quickly.
Somehow, the boy remains calm with the 911 dispatcher
while also screaming at the man
who's trying to kill his mother, Erin Hume, with a knife.
What's his name?
Tyler.
Police say Tyler Riddle stabbed Erin 22 times.
In never-before-seen body camera video, watch how police responded.
Anybody in there?
Window's broken.
You got a window broken out, dude.
You hear screaming, dude.
Inside.
Let's go.
Watch
out.
Where is he?
Where is he?
Where is he?
Up front, up front.
Hold, hold, hold.
As Riddle is on the ground, one officer goes to check on Erin.
Riddle is heard screaming cuss words and tries to fight back.
You need to get the f*** out of here.
Do you need help?
Yeah.
Here, come with me, okay?
Just walk as best you can, okay?
Here, take a seat.
Take a seat, lay down.
Erin doesn't remember being attacked.
You always think, oh, it can never happen to me.
It's never going to happen to me.
I would never put up with that until you're in it, and then it goes
too deep, and you can't get out, and you don't know what to do.
The single mom of two was stabbed in her neck and throat.
Her liver, lungs, and diaphragm were also hit.
Police put a tourniquet on her leg, and that helped keep her alive.
According to data, one
in three women will experience domestic violence.
Erin says she had never been in an abusive relationship before,
but there were signs that Riddle.
was trouble. He would get really angry.
He broke my phone. You know, there were other domestic
violence incidents before that incident
that just weren't as severe. Erin was in recovery
when she met him. You look with rose colored glasses
and you think everything is fine. And
especially being like in recovery,
you'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Erin spent weeks in the ICU.
And even though Riddle was locked up for nearly killing her,
he kept trying to contact her Mr. Riddle continued
to attempt to reach out to Erin from the jail
so much so that Erin complained
or was sadly forced to complain repeatedly to my office
to the sheriff's department to the Mesa Police Department
to try to get it to stop deputy county
attorney john schneider says many victims have
a difficult time leaving certainly the the
Overwhelming majority, I mean,
north of three quarters recant, and that's borne out by the
data. And it may not be that the crime didn't occur,
but they try to minimize or they will
add their own blame.
But Erin was determined to pursue justice for her and her family.
She attended every hearing and then spoke out in court
when Riddle was sentenced.
I didn't stick up for myself for so long.
My self-worth was low. I didn't realize what I
deserved and so this was like a way for me to redeem myself
and like show him that yes I am
worth it and I did not deserve this and so it felt really empowering.
Erin has a message for
other people who are struggling.
You can get out ahead of time there are resources there are things
and people willing to help you know organizations
and you just got to find them and just don't be
scared because on the other side of fear could be a huge blessing.
Erin shared a lot more about
her life as well as what signs to look out for in an abusive partner
and the entire interview is up
right now streaming on Fox Local.

was sentenced to 15 years in
