Smash-and-grab burglars target several businesses in Chicago's Old Town

That's right. Robberies and burglaries. Businesses were broken into along the stretch of North and Wells Avenue here in Old Town. Burglars broke the glass doors and the windows to get in. One of the targets was Corcoran's. It's a popular bar here and there's video. Security video shows two men pulling up in a blue sedan about three in the morning. They broke a window, climbed inside and spent less than a minute to find the cash register drawer and flee. The owner tells me that the The drawer was empty, but the window they broke was expensive. Just before this break-in, Jenny's ice cream shop was hit. The glass door was broken. It's unknown if they got away with anything. Last month, police alerted the community that a pair of armed robbers were targeting women walking alone in Lincoln Park. They pointed guns. They took jewelry and rings. One incident happened right outside of a school at pickup time. Women walking tonight say they are being vigilant. Scary. It's very scary. It's sad. You always have to walk with someone. I have this around my neck. I put my valuables away. I don't wear them. I'm definitely intentional and aware about where I am and who I'm walking with. I mean, I carry pepper spray with me on the weekends, so I think it's important to be vigilant about where you're walking and be aware of your surroundings. I think just being a female, I really try to be aware of it. and like I'm walking a lot of places by myself so yeah I think it's just important to remember even if it's like a crowded area to still stay aware police reports were made for Corcoran's and Jenny's apparently three dry cleaners were hit as well area three police are investigating reporting live in Old Town I'm Joni Lum Anita Joni you said they're investigating are they doing anything else in terms of stepped up patrols or anything of the sort well a lot of times in these cases, they do increase the patrols. These break-ins were about three in the morning. And when it comes to the robberies of women walking alone, they advise women to, you know, not walk alone, walk in pairs, be aware, do the things that those women say they are doing. But for the businesses, they advise them to have, secure that video so that they can use it. As you saw, the quality of that video was pretty good.
