AI GeneratedA gang of professional thieves has targeted approximately half a dozen film and production studios in Houston over the past month. The criminals use a consistent method of entry and operate with extreme speed, stealing high-end cameras and lenses. Local police and the Sheriff's Office are currently investigating the series of coordinated thefts.
Good evening, everyone. I'm Anthony Antoine.
We start with an only on Fox report. Another film
and production studio comes forward after being targeted
by professional thieves. In this video,
you see them there break the front door glass,
and then the three of them walk right in. But
the thing is, this is not the only situation.
It turns out the trio has hit up about a half
a dozen Houston studios in a little more than a month.
Fox 26's Randy Wallace joining us now
live from the north side with an update on that.
Randy. Yeah, Anthony. Now we first reported on
this gang of thieves,
last Friday we talked to the folks at Captive Studio.
They were the first to alert us about what was going on.
Now the Houston Police Department
and the Sheriff's Office are both investigating.
Three individuals broke front door,
came through the front door, literally came in, went directly
to where our cameras were stored,
pulled a couple of cameras and some lenses out of there.
And then we had a few out because we were getting ready
to do some shooting in the following
couple of days.
And so they grabbed the ones that were out,
took those with them, along with the other
ones in the back.
How fast was it?
Under two minutes.
They were in and out in under two minutes,
and I mean, obviously, I found out about it
because of the interview that you guys did with Carrie over there.
What did you think when you learned that you
were far from being the only studio?
Immediately I was like, man, this is the exact same MO,
these are the exact same people.
The dress that they're wearing is the same, the MO is the same.
They are in and out super, super fast.
Got through the door really quickly,
no issues there, and just moved very fast.
This is expensive equipment that they're stealing.
That's correct, that's correct.
What do you think, what do you surmise,
that they're selling it on the street?
I would assume that they're either selling it on the street
or they're selling it on
Facebook Marketplace or any one of a number
of places where you can offload equipment
like that.
It appears that they seem to know where to go when they get in.
Correct, yeah.
of where equipment is being stored
and those kind of things.
And so it's just very interesting
to realize there's something else
going on here.
What do you think about that?
I mean, it's very interesting.
And I mean, the circles that we all
run in, there is some familiarity
there is, there's some similarity
there.
But we've been having some
conversations since I saw your
story.
And we've been trying to figure out
where is the crossover and
who maybe has potentially been to
all of these places and
would know that and
how would they get that information?
That's what you're kind of working through right now.
Correct, that is correct.
Yeah, at this point, you got to make sure
you're checking out everyone to see if
there's any crossover.
So I know in both of these situations
is the beginning stages of the investigation.
But in terms of the owners,
what are they being told by police even about how they
can recover some of these losses?
Well, one of the things too, I mean, some of them, they have insurance,
which that's going to cover that.
We understand some of the studios don't.
But, you know, Anthony, even for the ones that have insurance,
you've got to keep in mind what else you're losing.
Let's say you needed those cameras,
those lenses for a couple of jobs the next day or the next few days.
Well, you don't have that equipment.
So not only are you looking at losing the value of the equipment,
but you don't have the equipment to basically do your job.
And those cameras ain't cheap, Randy.
Thank you so much for that report.
