Hey Crystal, take it away. Hey, good morning.
All right, so we're taking a look right now at
downtown Phoenix. You'd see nice clear sky out
there after several days in a row of rain and
clouds and winds. We are on the back side of this thing,
so now dry conditions. Temperature still
is amazing. This morning, got out of the car and was like,
oh, it is actually a little chilly,
59 degrees. Winds out of the west at seven miles per hour.
Still just a few isolated showers up
in far north or eastern Arizona.
That's where the center point of that surface low pressure
system is. Remember, there's a cold front moving along
with this thing. The cold front has just
cleared Arizona. You can see pretty clearly where it is.
So as it's moved through, it has put much
drier air in place over our state.
No longer looking to rain chances. But while we have dry air,
not the case if you go a little farther to the south.
Mexico is watching not one but
two different tropical systems.
We've got Hurricane Simon, which I've been talking about
for a very long time. Simon has been kind of doing its own thing.
It originally was projected
to do this past weekend move inland and over Mexico
and kind of fall apart but instead it
never made it to shore it's just been kind
of hanging out stuck almost in the same general
area for days and days it's still a category two strength
and then we now have newly named
tropical storm Trudy with winds at 50 miles
per hour sitting to the southeast of Simon and it
looks like Trudy will be following in Simon's footsteps here
so this is through Friday night
And you can see that the latest hurricane projection does have Simon
eventually making a landfall right near Cabo San Lucas by Friday night.
At the same time that Trudy is powering up
to a major hurricane off the coastline of Mexico.
And then as we continue into next week,
this is all the way through Monday morning,
you can see that Trudy may kind of brush up against Puerto Vallarta,
where we just had that brush with Simon.
And Simon will fall apart along the Baja.
But this means a lot of tropical moisture
is pooling just to our south over the weekend.
So now let's go back to our weather pattern.
This is what we're expecting by this weekend.
A little disturbance is going
to drop across the state and it gets stuck.
This is called a cutoff low.
So this low is going to kind of sit in place
for at least a couple of days, it looks like.
The result is you're going to have wind starting
to ramp up and over our state.
That will increase our wind speeds for the weekend.
It may also increase at least a low chance
for a few spotty showers over southern and central Arizona.
So low chance for the valley as we try
to pull some of that moisture up and towards us.
It's still a question as to how much influence
this low could have in terms of rain chances.
But for now, at least a low chance this weekend.
As I said, the winds are increasing.
So for Phoenix, we're looking at,
by Friday, 30 to 40 mile per hour gusts.
On Flagstaff's forecast, 40 to 45.
And look at Show Low, 30 to 40 mile per hour gusts.
Here's your temperatures.
We're at 79 this afternoon in the Valley.
63 in Winslow, 53 in Flagstaff.
And just a heads up, yet again,
areas like Flagstaff dropped to freezing tonight.
10-day forecast warming to 87 tomorrow, 86 Friday, and another drop.
