It also highlights the introduction of Padel in Milwaukee, community resources in Racine, Pope Leo XIV's health recovery, and a transition to colder autumn weather with an upcoming freeze.
Morning News Show. Well, good morning, everybody.
Welcome back to Wake Up on this Wednesday.
A really lovely week that we've seen so far this week,
but now we're going into more seasonal temperatures.
Yes. Yeah, seasonal temperatures.
Good weekend, I think, to get to do some leaf peeping out there.
This is a bit of a drive, but look at this. The fall foliage.
Gorgeous is that with the little outlook deck there and everything.
This is in South Sterling, Pennsylvania, but there are lots
of great places you could go a little closer to home.
We have a very nice sunrise this morning,
although the cloud is obscuring
a lot of it now, we're mostly mid to upper 50s at the moment.
Should top out in the low 60s,
which is really a typical mid-October day.
We've just been so spoiled that we'll feel kind of cool.
Cloudy but dry today.
The rain kicks in on Thursday, lasting into Friday.
And it could pick up an inch or so.
We'll look at that coming up in just a bit.
Today happens to be National I Love You Day.
Tell somebody you love them today.
Highs in the low 60s.
Rob, we love you.
And we've loved the weather this week, so keep it coming.
We'll love you even more.
Okay, taking a live look this morning at your roads.
The good news is that we're not seeing any crashes.
The bad news is we are seeing some congestion because of construction.
94 is certainly your slow spot right now.
It'll take you 25 minutes to go from Moorland to downtown.
Everywhere else, as you can see, is pretty steady.
We are continuing to stay on top of breaking news this morning.
Six people have died in a plane crash
in Sauk County near the Wisconsin Dells.
This was the scene overnight in the town of Delona.
The sheriff's office says the crash happened around 9:30 last night.
No word yet on what caused that plane to go down.
We do not know the names of the people killed,
but we do know it was five adults and one child.
It was everyone on board. There are no survivors.
The FAA and NTSB, they will be investigating.
And as we learn more information, we, of course,
will update all of you here on Wake Up.
We heard from the Sauk County Sheriff earlier this morning.
Let's take a listen at kind of their initial findings.
So about 9:30 last night, we started getting calls
of a plane crash in this area here in the township of Delona.
And deputies and fire EMS all responded.
we found the plane crash
or the site where it crashed and then started
searching for individuals now are you able
to tell us what type of aircraft it
was or what size it was at this time we know it
was a six passenger Piper
airplane and you know we know that there
were multiple deaths on the plane are we
able to confirm that exact number
at this time we know that there were six
deaths success and then there are some houses
in the area as well along the street
where any of those houses impacted as that plane came down
not that we know of no uh this is an
ongoing investigation area obviously blocked off right now
by troopers do you have any anticipation
how long crews will be out here you know today even
into tomorrow we're waiting today or this
morning um NTSB and FAA will show up
and do their investigation as well and that should be
sometime this morning that they arrive okay
so that was Sauk County Sheriff Chip Maister who you
just heard from there. So we know that the FAA,
the NTSB, they're all going to be on the ground
today investigating this.
Again, you're taking a live look here at the area where that plane went
down in Sauk County. This is just right outside of the Wisconsin Dells.
So one of the things that
we're working to learn for you is where
this plane departed from and where it was going.
So while we do not have any official confirmation on this yet,
we do know that using flight tracking
software we were able to find a plane
that disappeared in the Reedsburg area that's where
this is around the time the Sauk County Sheriff's office reported
the crash to us so based off of
the map that we looked at it appears the plane may have
been flying out of Kenosha again officials
have not confirmed where the plane departed from we
do have a crew on the way to the scene right
now so of course we'll keep you posted as we continue
to learn more about what happened here
in Sauk County. Just a really heartbreaking story here.
Six people, again, dead. Five adults,
one child. 8.04 a.m. now, and today, big day. Yes.
Game three of the NLCS, and the Brewers are in LA
with a 2-0 lead in the series.
Well, these are different circumstances compared to last year's
postseason showdown. Some people are still
a little bit surprised by all this. Yeah,
our Lily Zhao is live with more on why that may be.
Lily. Hi, good morning, ladies. Yeah,
I think it's kind of the narrative
that has been talked about all season.
The Brewers, the little Brewers, they're underdogs.
They really embrace that underdog mentality.
But they went into the postseason believing they
are one of the Goliaths in the MLB.
And they've proved it with a regular season best 103 wins.
But even so, they went into the playoffs with a 2-0 lead.
And you're hearing all the national noise
of people saying, how did they get here?
How did they win two games?
Well, they've been doing it the Brewers' way.
So while it's surprising to potentially a lot of people nationally
outside of Wisconsin, of course, the players, they're not surprised.
I don't think it surprises us.
We've, the way we've gone about it just over the years,
like the expectations for us are super high.
So in terms of like where we're at at this point, are we surprised?
I don't think so, but there's a lot more still to go.
We're playing a very, very good team
and you just got to take it a day at a time.
but I think the belief in our abilities and what we can do
if we keep playing the way we play, the sky's the limit for us.
That's the mentality of a Pat Murphy-led Brewers team,
one game at a time, and we'll go from here.
They're not going to think too far ahead because, again,
they have a couple chances here in L.A. to punch their ticket
to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
These Brewers are not taking it lightly whatsoever,
but they have to take it one game at a time,
especially against a Dodgers team that is going
to be extremely hard to beat at home.
But ladies, you have to believe they believe they can get this far.
And we'll see if they can at least get
a little bit closer tonight in game three.
Yeah, Lily, one of the things that I really
loved leading up to this series here,
which is hearing from the Brewers, it seemed like the mentality was,
oh, gosh, you don't want to play the Dodgers like big, scary Dodgers.
And they said, no, they understand that the road
to the World Series goes right through L.A.
And they want to play this team and they want to beat them
because they are the team to beat.
Have you heard anything about that from the guys?
Yeah, absolutely.
You bring up a great point because Pat Murphy even said,
listen, if we want to write the story
of a Brewers team winning a World Series,
it has to go through Los Angeles.
They're back-to-back World Series champs.
They're one of the best teams in baseball for a reason.
They're the team that everyone wants
to take down every single postseason.
So if we want to make it to the World Series, we want to be the best.
So we have to beat the best.
And the Brewers have a chance to really prove that in L.A.
and make a really big statement on the road.
So they have the mentality that, yes, we want to be the best.
We're going to have to beat the best.
And I think that's what really makes them
so special this year is they think they can do that.
Absolutely.
We think they can do that as well.
Lily, can't wait for tonight.
We'll check back in with Lily shortly.
But, of course, we'll have plenty of live reports
from Los Angeles between Lily, Brandon Cruz,
and Ted Perry throughout the day here on Fox 6 and Fox Local.
Okay, so here's a look now at the schedule of games in L.A. this week.
Game three tonight, first pitch is at 7 p.m. our time.
Game four will be tomorrow starting at 8 p.m.
If the Dodgers win either of those games,
there will be a game five in L.A.
That one will be on Friday.
It would start at 8 p.m.
A fun fact, no matter what happens,
the Brewers are guaranteed at least one more home game
either in the NLCS or in the World Series.
So something to look forward to there.
okay turning now to a big story that we've
been following all morning long an update on a shooting
that we told you about on tuesday
and milwaukee police are now searching for the person who might
be responsible here so an arrest warrant has
been issued for 39 year old timothy taylor he's
charged with five different counts in the death
of 20 year old amaya walls last week at 42nd and
good hope if you have any information
on where taylor is you are asked to call police new
allegations of Milwaukee police using excessive force.
A video spreading on social media this
morning shows officers forcefully grabbing a 24-year-old
who was already in handcuffs.
They then push him to the ground and repeatedly punch him.
The man's attorney, who we were just
seeing, says it started with a traffic stop last week over
a missing license plate.
What I'm hearing that is consistent
is that the officers were very hostile
at the very beginning of the stop,
that they were very aggressive with them.
And that is kind of what led to things escalating.
The attorney plans to hold a news conference later this afternoon.
MPD says the incident is under review.
The police union said in a statement officers knew
the man had a gun in his pocket
and that they used controlled strikes to gain compliance,
which is part of training at the police academy.
Well, heads up if you live in Racine, the public library
is now offering dedicated hours for access to social worker help.
What began as a job for Ashley Custodino turned into a larger
scale operation to help people who might be in a tough spot.
It's really great to work in such a community resource driven building
that is here to support the community and offer these social services
that, you know, sometimes are lacking in a lot of places.
Being able to support people and connect them, you know,
even if you're able to just change one person's life,
I feel like that is making a really huge impact.
The social services are one-on-one, and it's by a walk-in basis,
anytime on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 5 p.m.
What a wonderful resource if you live in Racine.
Okay, coming up, a game that combines
the elements of tennis and squash.
Our Brian Cramp is on the court at Epic Paddle Milwaukee,
working with the pros and maybe learning a few shots.
Look at him go. Six WakeUp News, Milwaukee's most
trusted morning news show. Good morning, good
morning, taking a live look here over downtown Milwaukee
a little bit cloudy to start your day
more seasonable as well in the temperature
department last morning at this time or
yesterday morning at this time we were in the 70s, we're in the 50s
so um certainly a noticeable
cool down here Rob. Uh yeah, it has been a bit
of a change of gears, you're gonna notice it as you
head out, it really is just a typical mid-October day
though I say if you like fall, this is a
welcome change, I'm okay
with it. Now pumpkin spice latte makes sense, you're not sweating
thank you for justifying my PSL. Yes, yesterday
and Monday it was like iced tea please. Now today, yeah
we can get back into the fall mode. Look
at the beautiful colors out at Newburg as you can see
as we check out the play yard, they're still waiting
to harvest the corn out at North Lake
and yeah, a little color in the tree down
in Kenosha, Carthage College unfortunately not a
lot of color up in the skies.
It's been pretty gray and will stay cloudy but dry throughout the
day. High pressure to our west will generally keep us stable enough
to avoid precipitation but not
enough to clear up those clouds.
We're kind of in the mid ground here. The colder airs north and
west. The warmer air's south and east.
So a very seasonal day today. Now the high retreats to the
north. The low pushes in from the south.
That brings some rain in for Thursday and it does
look to be a bit of a wet day Thursday into Friday morning.
So let's go check it out on
Sky Vision Plus. Now, you'll notice the cloudy conditions
and the northeast breeze stays pretty
steady throughout the day today and into the night tonight.
And we're still dry even into
our Thursday morning. So the morning commute should
be fine on Thursday. But by around the
lunch hour or so, we get some spotty showers going.
steadier rain by 3, 4 o'clock. Thursday's
drive home will be in some steadier rain possibly some heavier pockets
in there as well and that
lingers on into our Friday morning maybe even
midday Friday before we kind of get to the last
of these showers now that adds up
of course I likely will see about a half an inch to maybe
an inch worth of rain if we get some embedded thunderstorms some
of those numbers could easily
get a bit of a boost now from the statewide point of view again cloudy
but dry today here comes the
rain for Thursday and then as this exits watch
the wind here kick in from the northwest gets
pretty strong for a while on Friday
and then it suddenly calms down and we clear out and so that
sets the stage for a pretty chilly night Friday
into Saturday morning after that sunshine both
Saturday and Sunday very much an October weekend
not going to get the same summer-like warmth but
if you want to get out to the pumpkin patch
and actually have it feel like you should be at the
pumpkin patch, I think it's a pretty good weekend for that.
Now, today's high of 62 is spot on the
average, low 50, a little bit above average,
technically an above average day overall. The
colder air doesn't really kick in until Friday night
into Saturday morning, but when it does,
we could get our first freeze of the season,
which is a little early, but not crazy. The 22nd is the
average first freeze date for Milwaukee.
The average hard freeze defined as 28 or colder
usually holds off until November our Fox 6 day planner should
be near 62 today 60 tomorrow 50s
Lakeside we drop to 54 on a windy Friday
and then all the way down to 32 Friday night sunshine both
Saturday and Sunday and warming to 66 on Monday

Wake Up News, Milwaukee's most trusted
morning news show. Well good morning
everybody. Welcome back to Wake Up.
Taking a live look out there for you this morning. My goodness
what a difference a day makes.
This morning we were waking up at 58 degrees. Yesterday at this time
you might recall we were in the 70s.
My neighbors were grilling out yesterday. It was giving me all
the summer vibes I think that and the fact
that the Brewers are still playing baseball certainly
making this not feel quite like fall
although today certainly will more than yesterday so
paddle in case you never heard of it combines
the elements of tennis and squash with a few
unique twists that make it a really different game
as a whole, our Brian Cramp is on the court
this morning at Epic Paddle Milwaukee working with the pros
and also learning a few shots of his own
so Haley and I've been talking this morning, Cramp
and we're trying to figure out okay like how is
is different than pickleball and tennis
because it kind of looks like a similar setup 100%, yeah I mean
it's like the same those sports just smashed together right
and I think how it's different
really there's two things that this is like
a a smaller tennis court with completely different
paddles than uh tennis as well as pickleball
and squash I mean Lalo I mean those are the things
that kind of stand out to me as I saw you guys playing, it's intense
though I'd say a lot faster
than those sports yes yeah I'm sweating once you enter
a favorite paddle you cannot go out yeah right I
love it too you know why don't we get to the service
because it's scored similar to tennis
if not the same is that correct it's the same as tennis yeah okay
and as you take service too over
there yeah we got it's usually played with two two players
on each side yeah it's always a doubles
game got it there's no doubles there's no singles
and what i've noticed is that it's fun and
competitive at the same time yeah
which makes it wonderful okay all right let's go for it all right
All right, let's get ready.
Like you said, let's go for it.
Here we go.
All right.
All right, so then now it would be 15, 15, zero.
All right, so you're serving from my side.
So I would want to what?
Yes, you can go to the net
cause the main goal during the point is get to the net.
So you stay up.
All right, we're gonna get ready for this one.
This is fun.
This is fun.
Let's get it.
Oh, he goes to the other pro, Edu.
Oh, this is where it gets a little dicey.
Yes.
Oh, that, see, playing off the wall
is uniquely different than this sport too.
Because you don't play off the wall
pickleball or or even in tennis yeah
because usually the the ball that you are going to play
is a ball that is going against you yeah now
this ball is going forward the direction you want to
aim okay so it's totally different yeah well it's 15 15 right now
and typically how many sets do you
play uh six exactly the same
as tennis six yeah okay let's give you a long you can play for a
long time couldn't you yeah yeah are you ready let's go
for it all right here we go that's a
a tough place to hit it that was a good shot
there lauren i mean because that corner shot
has got to be difficult to get out of you see what
is happening is if she aims to the corner
is the most difficult thing for me yeah
because you got to hit it now can you hit it off the back
wall to then go back yeah i can
do that okay interesting there's a lot to this game you
don't need to keep on learning more than anything
else yes i don't know if he was ready for that
oh we got him how do how do people sign up to play
this should we just come on by should we give you
a call should we look for you online they can reach us out
in many ways they can go through
our website they can come just directly here even we have
a whatsapp community so if people
want to join they are more than welcome yeah
and from there we sent all the leagues and all
the programs that we are running it's awesome let's keep
on playing we got more time here
let's go, Milwaukee just opened up last month
there's only two locations in the country
one's here in Milwaukee, the third is going
to be down in Virginia, but i'll tell you what
guys, tons of fun here and when you get competing uh you'll notice
that you'll get a little bit of
of a sweat going on as well so that's
not a bad thing, it looks like a workout doesn't it? It does look
like i feel like we're watching Wimbledon
or something, we're like going between the two sides
we're so invested here, two in the country
and Milwaukee has one, that's pretty cool, good for us
i know we do have a lot of tennis players here, yes
so that's a good thing and this is year-round
it's an indoor facility, there you go, love
to see it, we love to see it, good winter activity
yes and speaking of the weather, let's take
a live look outside here from our city center camera
A bit of a cloudy day today,
and we do expect some rain in your forecast tomorrow.
Otherwise, as I said before, maybe just grab
an extra layer if you're heading out the door.
Fall has returned, sitting at 58 degrees here at 8:26
We'll be back with more Wake Up right after this
Fox 6 Wake Up News, Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show
Well, good morning, and welcome back to Wake Up here
at about 830 on your Wednesday morning.
And, Rob, today it's cloudy,
but we're expecting the rain really tomorrow.
You are right. I am happy that you've been listening.
I actively listened to Rob this morning, I'm proud to
It is. Yeah, it's back to October, right?
I mean, we had a couple of days that felt more like summer,
and now we're back to feeling like fall.
As we take a live look at our day today, it is cloudy, but it is dry
A little sunshine getting through
Mostly upper 50s and low 60s,
and that's kind of where we spend the whole day.
But that's an average high for this time of day,
so it's nothing out of the ordinary.
A few showers to our south, but we should stay dry today
as we talked about off the top
Thursday and the first half of Friday will be the wet stretch there.
Could pick up an inch worth of rain in some areas,
and we'll likely continue to have dry conditions for the day today.
So that means an easygoing day for the kiddos in school.
Wake-up school day forecast gets a B.
Okay, let's see what grade we'll give traffic this morning at 8:30.
Taking a live look right now at your roads.
As you can see, things are mostly quiet.
Here's 94 at Wisconsin, 67, not too shabby at all.
Same can be said for 43 at Wisconsin Avenue.
94 usually starts to ease up at this time,
so let's get a look here and see if that is the case
as the kind of morning rush dies down a little bit.
All right, right now let's take a look at your drive times for 94.
Not too bad, 20 minutes to go from Orland to downtown.
Wherever you are headed this morning, please drive safe.
We continue to stay on top of breaking news this morning.
Six people have died in a plane crash
in Sauk County near the Wisconsin Dells.
We have now confirmed it was a plane that took off
from Kenosha on a return flight back to Menominee.
This was the scene overnight in the town of Delona.
The sheriff's office says the crash happened around 9:30 last night.
Now, no word yet on what caused the plane to go down.
The sheriff's office says before the crash, the plane was reported
to be in contact with a nearby air traffic control tower.
At this time, the sheriff's office does
not know what those transmissions
were or if thunderstorms may have played any role in the crash.
We do not know the names of the people killed,
but we do know it was five adults and one child.
It was everyone on board.
There are no survivors in this crash.
The FAA and NTSB will be investigating,
and we will update you as we continue
to learn more on this developing situation.
Earlier today, we did hear from Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister.
Let's listen to what he had to say.
Any timeline regarding when information on the passengers
who are deceased will be released?
We just want to make sure that all the family members
are notified before we put anything out.
So I'm assuming sometime later today, perhaps.
but we'll make sure that notification
is made prior now obviously this is an
ongoing investigation are you able
to tell us anything at this time about the
cause of the crash we know that they had contact
with a tower prior to the crash
and and investigators are looking into that today to find out what that
communication was yeah are you able
to tell us was it a privately owned plane
do you know anything about you know why it
was in the air at the time I'm not
sure who owned the plane. I know it was not a commercial airplane.
Okay, so let's take another
live look here at the scene.
This again is in Sauk County in a densely wooded area, but it's also
been deemed as being residential where the plane went down.
This is just outside of the Wisconsin
Dells, close to Reedsburg.
This morning, we are learning that it was a fixed wing Piper that went
down at around 9.50 p.m. We know the plane did take off from Kenosha,
but it was on a return
trip to Menominee. So that's where it was headed.
We are still working to learn more about these
six individuals who were killed.
Again, that's five adults, one child. We're working to figure
out where they came from, although we can confirm
that they were on a return trip back to Menominee.
We've got a crew that is a reporter that's on the way,
and we'll have hopefully a live report from
them coming up here in our next hour or so.
And of course as this investigation gets underway we
also want to bring in Chief Meteorologist Rob Haswell.
Rob what did weather conditions look
like at the time of the crash last night?
Yeah it's a very interesting time frame because that
was when we did have some thunderstorms in the area.
Now I want to stress of course that we can't
directly connect the conditions to the crash at this point.
That's the job for the NTSB. But I
can show you what was happening at the time.
If we take our time lapse radar here that I have set up
from the just before the crash time right through the crash time,
you can see it took off in
Kenosha and there were some thunderstorms in that area.
And then as you look up towards Sauk County
there, that same loop shows that storm that kind
of popped up very close to the time of the reported
crash. In fact, if I kind of freeze frame it here,
take it step by step, you can see that storm cell
in western portions of Sauk County making
its way toward that exact area, intensifying pretty
quickly there, and then all of a sudden lightning tracker fires up
as it moves its way through
places like Baraboo and Lake Delton,
and it stays stronger as it continues east. So if you watch that
kind of 30-minute time frame there right around the crash,
there's 930, there's that cell that
suddenly intensifying and then moving to the east.
So again, we cannot directly at this point
connect that to the crash necessarily,
but it does show that conditions were not ideal for flying
right at the moment that the crash was reported.
And as we know, Rob, those smaller planes typically
have a more challenging time navigating inclement weather conditions,
primarily because they don't
have the same instrument setups that larger commercial planes do.
Can you comment on
on anything like that.
I know that you are not an air or a pilot yourself, but I know you know
you have some familiarity with the weather instruments
that some planes carry. Yeah,
well, of course, every day, you know,
we take a look at the aviation forecast as well. Smaller
planes typically have to operate, you know,
visual flight rules and things like that or
modified visual flight rules.
So it does give them somewhat of a disadvantage. But, you know,
pilots are very, very skilled at that and very skilled
at the world of meteorology as well.
And so they're capable of plotting routes around these things
and dealing with changing conditions.
I think it is notable that that storm cell did intensify
very rapidly right around the time of the crash.
That quick change in the intensity may have been, again,
something that could be attributed to this crash.
We will have to wait and see what the NTSB has to say about it because,
you know, while that was in the area,
Pilots are very good at what they do,
and those planes are capable of making last-minute turns
and navigating around, things like that as well.
And again, the NTSB, the FAA,
they will be the two agencies leading this investigation.
I want to reiterate, as Rob mentioned,
at this time we don't know that weather was a factor in the crash,
but we did want to just give a look at the forecast
at the time of this event last night.
Thanks so much, Rob.
Thanks.
837 now, and today is a big day.
game three of the NLCS and the Brewers
are on the road facing the Dodgers in the City of Angels
currently holding the series lead two to nothing.
Yeah our Lily Zhao is live in Los Angeles and now
Lily we heard the Dodgers are planning
to keep Shohei Ohtani in the lineup what can you tell us
about that? Yeah good morning ladies and I'm
also happy to report the sun is starting to kind of
peak up here and we're hoping the Brewers hopes
to a World Series continue to peak as well but
again they're gonna have to keep Shohei Ohtani
at bay he will be in the lineup he's been dealing
with a right knee and a biceps injury
so that's kind of hampered him in the postseason but when
you look at his body of work entirely
in the playoffs 20 at bats just three hits none for
extra bases his batting average down to .150
so it's not really the Shohei Ohtani that we know
in the in the playoffs or at all he has not really played like himself
because of injury but he's not
using that as an excuse the Brewers
though know he is still a very dangerous hitter he's experienced
he knows what he's doing and they know that one swing
of the bat could really change things so
they're again not taking him lightly whatsoever know
that whether he's uh he's feeling good or
he's not feeling good he's always going to be someone
that you have to game plan for you never
know um it takes one swing to come back
and i think there's proof of that even last year you
know what I mean like didn't have probably
the greatest series to start but that game four last
year was you know I think it just takes one day
so I mean I I don't know but yeah. Robert Gasser
aka Bobby Diesel getting the start for the Brewers
in game three he's going to have a really big task
in trying to keep Otani down as well
when he does not swing the bat well it's kind of been tough
sledding for this offense in general
so we're going to see hopefully if he can continue that
trend for the Milwaukee Brewers as they again have
a 2-0 lead over the Dodgers, ladies. Yeah,
Lily, I wanted to ask you, talking about starting
lineups here, I feel like it's been a kind of a
treat for Brewers fans to see players
who are maybe not on the traditional starting lineup
this season really have a chance to shine.
Can you talk about some of the big standouts that
we've seen? Yeah, when you're talking about guys like David Hamilton,
for example, right,
he was hitless, but again, the ability to kind of get on base,
wreak havoc, steal a base,
kind of keep your head on a swivel that's what he did in game two
so you have unsung heroes like
that who are contributing up and down the lineup
and then again these guys right now when you're
making a postseason roster they have been through
the ringer before they know what's going on but
you're talking about also rookies like Cooper
Pratt, Luis Lara, guys who have not experienced
the stage yet, they're also having big contributions as well
and so that is I think what makes this
team so special is that no matter
who Pat Murphy plugs in there on the lineup of course it's going
to be strategic based off the pitcher they will all find
a way to contribute in any way they can
this team plays as a team
which is why they have been so lethal this year, Lily I think we heard
from a fan yesterday who said you can buy good players
but you can't buy heart, that's definitely
what the Brewers have on their side here, Lily thanks
so much for joining us once again from
LA, enjoy that sunrise looking gorgeous behind you
and hey don't forget to watch for more live
reports from Los Angeles from Lily, Brandon Cruz,
and Ted Perry throughout the day here on Fox 6
and Fox Local. Well,
Chicago native Pope Leo XIV is recovering from surgery this morning.
Doctors removed a lung nodule
and in the process confirmed he has lung cancer. Donovan Long is
following the Pope's medical journey from our live center
this morning. All right, Don, what is the
latest on how he's doing? Well, first, you guys,
good morning to you. Yeah, you know, people all
over the world are praying for the pontiff
at this time of the morning we know he had thoracic
surgery yesterday at Gemelli University
which is in Rome, Gemelli University Hospital excuse me
which is in Rome and that surgery according
to doctors lasted about 90 minutes first guys want
to give you the latest update from the Vatican they did post
this health update about the 71
year old Pontiff on X the quote says here
the night passed calmly for the Pope further information
will be provided later today.
Meanwhile, we do know that surgeons removed the lower lobe of the
pope's right lung. They did confirm through some lung tissue
that he does have cancer.
Good news here, though, folks.
Doctors said the procedure was successful. No complications. That's
wonderful to hear. Oncologists
also say the pope's prognosis is excellent because those surgeons were
able to remove the cancerous nodule at an early stage.
Okay, so the cancer diagnosis still may be
kind of surprising to the Pope. Here's why.
Fox News says he has no previously known health
problems and that he maintains an active lifestyle.
We're talking swimming and tennis as well. We
should note that the Pope continues to recover at this morning,
8:41 our time from a private room.
We're told he's on the 10th floor of the Gemelli University Hospital.
Interestingly, though, guys,
normally he would be staying at the Papal apartment,
but he cannot do so right now because
that apartment is under renovations, Haley.
Absolutely, Donovan.
Again, we know a lot of people are invested in this story,
wishing him a smooth and quick recovery.
And if we get any new updates from the Vatican,
we'll pass them along right here.
It's shocking, too, because he's not a smoker.
I know.
And we're seeing more cases like that pop up.
Yeah.
All right, Donovan, thank you.
Sure.
Okay, it is time now to get you set up for Fox 6.
Wake up at 9 o'clock.
A Wisconsin woman making a name for herself,
competing on Fox's The Floor.
We're going to introduce you to Denise Konke
and learn more about her strategy for this game.
And an epic tale is coming to Netflix.
We've got a first look at Narnia, the magician's nephew.
And Jesse Eisenberg turned down the chance
to portray Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The reason, he says, he didn't want to star in the social reckoning,
the sequel of the social network.
Okay, but of course, before all of that,
our Brian Cramp is finding out how beginners, families,
and experienced players can get involved at Epic Paddle Milwaukee.
I don't know if this is an official trick of the game,
but Cramp is crushing it this morning.
Can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve.
All right, good morning,
good morning, everybody.
Taking a live look here over our kind
of a gloomy shot of the Lake Michigan shoreline.
I feel like today's a good comfort food day,
which is fitting because it is National Dessert Day.
Is it really?
There we go.
It sure is.
I have a pumpkin bar at home
that Stephanie Barakello made that I still need to eat.
So I must have known that National Dessert Day was coming up.
You were saving it for today.
That's why I saved it.
Her pumpkin bars are so good.
All the apple bread that I brought in is probably all gone.
That was delicious.
You brought an apple bread?
Your daughter made it?
No, my significant other, Leah.
She's the best, Leah.
She's a good baker, yeah.
And it's from my backyard apple tree.
Really?
It was delicious when I ate it, but I appreciate it even more now.
That's like from farm to table.
Yes.
From yard to table.
Right. I had some apple crisp from it yesterday.
So all those comfort foods great for today because it is kind
of one of those, you know, grayer, more October type days.
And then tomorrow is going to be a little wet and windy.
But right now, as we check out our Fox 6 camera here, you can see
those gray skies were cloudy as we check in with Kenosha this hour.
And they did get some rain in Kenosha last night.
See some of those puddles from earlier slowly but surely drying up.
And you see some pretty good color from the early morning sunrise.
Now, we should say cloudy, but generally dry.
High pressure way up to our west, enough of a stabilizing factor
to keep us from getting any precipitation going.
Not enough to clear up these clouds.
Certainly helps to give us that northeast wind throughout
the day today as well for that cooling effect lakeside.
Speaking of temperatures, we're kind of in the middle ground here.
The cold is to the north and west.
The warmer is to the south and east.
And we're just kind of hanging out in the middle there,
just in that Goldilocks zone, if you will, with very seasonal weather.
Now the high retreats, a low moves in,
and tomorrow does look to be a little challenging.
It's going to be windy and wet,
so let's go check it out on Sky Vision Plus.
Show you tomorrow's weather today.
Short-term, bit of a breeze northeast throughout the day.
Cloudy, but again, I don't expect any precipitation.
We'll stay dry through the night tonight into our Thursday morning.
But by midday Thursday, some showers start to fill in,
and then a steadier rain by Thursday afternoon.
Maybe 3:30.
Some periods will be a little bit heavier.
Unfortunately, right now it looks
to pick up right around that evening commute,
so that might be a bit of a headache Thursday.
We stay fairly wet through Thursday,
and then we go and add the wind to it.
Northwest wind kicks in 15 to 25,
gusting up around 35 or 40 miles per hour on Friday.
I think we'll pick up a half an inch to an inch worth
of rain through Thursday into Friday morning,
maybe a bit more through the midday Friday
with some of that lingering precipitation.
Now, if we look at it from our statewide point of view,
again, you can see that system moving in.
And then as it exits, watch the wind shift and pick up on Friday.
Still a little bit of precip to wrap in behind the low.
But the key for Friday afternoon and Friday night is the clearing
and cooling that kicks in as that area of low pressure exits.
That'll leave us with a bit of a frosty morning on Saturday morning.
After that, though, the weekend's actually quite sunny.
both Saturday, Sunday look to be pleasant, very October type days.
But hey, it is the middle of
October. This is how it's supposed to feel.
Today's high of 62 is spot on the average. 50 is actually
warmer than the average low, nowhere near the records for the day.
The chill that is going to
be notable kicks in Friday night.
As you can see, that colder air settling in and that'll be the
case into Saturday morning.
At that point, we might start seeing some freezing conditions across
our area, and through much of the state.
Our Fox 6-Day Planner, 62 today,
60 tomorrow, both days in the 50s lakeside.
54 on a windy, wet Friday,
cooling all the way down to 32 Friday night, Saturday morning.
Sunshine both days on the weekend, partly sunny and 66 by Monday.
Well, you do not have to be a pro athlete
to get in on the fun at Epic Paddle Milwaukee.
Brian Kramp is finding out how beginners,
families, and even experienced players
can get involved at their new gorgeous facility.
You're doing great this morning, Brian.
You know what?
I'm giving it a whirl, Haley.
We're doing our best over here, and partly because of the team.
The team makes it really fun.
Those guys are the pros over there.
I've got to say, just even sitting for like five minutes
with them makes you want to play the sport.
Oh, my gosh, yes.
But also learn the sport even more.
So how can I become a member, Lauren?
Yeah, so basically I'm the one that's in charge of all the memberships.
We have different tiers of memberships.
For adults like you, there's two different tiers.
You have the founding and the courtside.
Okay.
founding is the highest tier
that we offer it's gonna start at $149 for the
first three months okay
and the last nine months the yearly contract is 279
but we are gonna offer a one month month month
for new members like you okay so
maybe you're new to the paddle community
For sure yes of course because a
month a month kind of allows me to get in here
and when I can get in there but
also see if I really like it in it
for the kids it's under 100 it is 17 and
under $79 month-to-month that's sweet
the first couple kids get a free paddle
actually we're trying to build up the youth here
and just get them into a new sport if they like
tennis do they like pickleball i think this might even
be a little bit more fun um so let's get
going here i don't know if we're i'm not qualified to play two pros
but you might hey i don't think
i am either we're gonna do our best let's do it
for you lauren what makes this game so much fun
because it really is fun it is it's just basically just the community
and the people here at this gym
already oh good shot um are just awesome our pros
our whole staff is just such so welcoming and it's
just great to get in here get a good workout
but also low impact especially with me i have bad
knees so this is this is great for my knees
a 24 year old with bad knees if you can pull it off
so can i who's basically a lot older than you
with bad everything yeah uh oh that's a tough
shot oh my gosh that is a difficult shot like how
do you approach that instead of going maybe
to go to lefty. So if we're scoring again,
we did this like last game, we're down. So it's love 15.
It is love 15. Okay. So you would be serving over here
and I would move up, correct? You will be up.
All right. So it's love 15. See,
these are the specifics of the game that I think people will
be able to get used to pretty quick. It is.
And it's a bounce underhand. I'll go to my side.
Ooh. Yeah. And you can stay up.
Oh, that's a tough shot, but he's a pro. He can get that.
He is.
Now, if it hits that side, he's just feeding me.
He is.
Come on.
He wants you to smash it.
Let's go.
He's just toying with me.
Yeah.
Come on, guys.
You can't toy with me like that.
And then you got, oh, that's yours.
Oh, he tries to hit it off the wall.
I'll tell you what, Lauren,
that shot off the glass is probably the shot that will surprise
people most about this sport because you can use that,
and when it hits it, you have to
play off of it.
Exactly.
So that's kind of where the racquetball aspect comes into play,
where it uses the ball, you can be able to hit it off,
and if it goes over, it's technically still in play.
I mean, dare I say this, this is an epic game here at Epic Paddle.
Oh, it's epic, it's a new sport.
You and I talked off camera, like,
what's next for the paddle sport, for racquet sports?
Yeah.
You know, I mean, it's pretty cool to see how it's evolved over time.
Exactly, and I think this is just a great way to get people in,
especially in the tennis, pickleball, racquetball community.
Try a new sport, get in here.
Give it a whirl, why not?
And it's great for wintertime, too, since we're indoor.
You got another ball.
I'm serving again.
I got one in this corner.
Check out this box logo for more information, guys.
Epic paddle here in Milwaukee right off of Brown Deer.
Love 30.
You're heading out near 41.
I'll say this, that if you play once, it's kind of addicting.
Look at that overhand on Grant.
Oh, he got a shot in on the pro.
That's a rarity.
I'm going to leave on that one.
Paddle drop.
Yeah, and on a high note.
We're done now.
Sorry.
We scored a four.
We're done.
Grant was feeling confident because he
was like, hey, do you have a ball to serve?
Let's do it one more time here.
and then he crushed it.
Did a great job.
Proud to know you, Brian Cramp.
He's going to go get a membership after that.
I appreciate it
It looks like a good time, too.
Yes.
All right, take another live look
outside here from our city center camera
for your Wednesday morning.
A bit chillier than the last couple of days,
and certainly we've got some clouds in the sky,
but it should be a dry Wednesday.
Not the same story for Thursday.
We'll get you another look at your forecast coming up at 9.
Fox 6 Wake Up News, Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show.
All right, good morning, everybody.
taking a live look here over downtown Milwaukee uh where it's
a little bit more seasonable this
morning yeah it is 58 degrees right now
a lot cooler than it was yesterday at this time by
like 20 degrees and if you think
that this is chilly oh boy you just wait until Saturday morning
well the newest addition to the Racine Zoo needs
a name. Too cute, you can help pick it out as well yes
the zoo welcomed a healthy baby zebra on Monday it's a girl
and the zoo actually has a list of
names it's asking the public to choose
from so the name selection options are Truth, Penny and Dolly
which is a nod to Dolly Parton
who of course passed away in August you can now vote for your
favorite on the Racine Zoo Facebook page she needs a good name
because she's adorable it's
gotta be Dolly for me I think I'm going Dolly right what
a beautiful tribute you're named after
an icon a legend and yeah looks like
a Dolly I'm sure she would work nine to five hard at the zoo
yeah I like it business hours I know really gosh it's just
so neat to see how they have those
stripes even right when they're born
because you know how some animals are kind of a different
color a little lighter
when they're babies for me it's the size of baby animals that always
shocks me like giraffes when they're first born are like my height
which cracks me up they're so
big elephants yeah yep well anyway go get your votes
in and if you like nickel and i we like it
