Pat Murphy and family, that's a sign that means so much,
Pat Murphy and family, because
family applies in a lot of ways.
He's pointing at Bob Uecker.
This is the 2026 version
of that hit show, My Three Sons,
right there, and there's Pat
Murphy signing autographs and getting quite the ovation,
and as I know you just said it,
we've got to point out, he was pointing up at Uecker
and saying, Uecker, Uecker, Uecker.
Pat Murphy's a baseball lifer.
Coached college baseball, was a player,
was not a star player, but was a player.
And has spent his life in baseball,
moved from the college game to the professional ranks.
He said the San Diego Padres kind of helped rescue his career.
He had gone through a difficult departure at Arizona State.
Obviously was at Notre Dame with Craig Counsell
at Florida Atlantic before that.
And can you just imagine the satisfaction
in your late 60s to be where Pat Murphy is right now,
riding in the back of that pickup truck.
You're the reigning two-time major National League manager of the year.
Now, he could win a third time.
And now you're also the World Series winning manager.
And he's still the same guy that likes
to come into the press room and say,
I don't recognize a couple people.
Introduce yourself.
Who's new?
And on day one of the World Series, or media day, I'm sorry,
before the World Series on that Thursday,
Brandon and Lily and I were sitting in there.
Brandon and Lily and I were sitting in there, and I said,
do you think he's going to do the introductions?
And we were having a side bet.
Would it be more than 10 minutes or less than 10 minutes?
And Brandon and Lily and I were all joking about that.
And then, okay, oh, hey, Mary, you've got the skipper.
Go ahead.
We're really grateful to have such great people come out
and bring everybody together in the community, you know.
That's what's great about team sports, you know what I mean?
That's the excitement of all.
And as people on the field, you just.
You don't realize it sometimes until
you get them all together like this.
It's amazing.
Did you ever think this day would come?
I mean, this city has been waiting.
You see the hats coming, 44 years.
I'm just happy for the people of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin.
You know, I'm just lucky.
I feel very lucky.
How about you?
You are beloved.
You are
Everybody wants to have a beer with you.
I mean, what is it?
What's the special sauce that you have?
With this community and the players,
what is the, I call it the special sauce?
Well, I don't know about that.
I don't think it's anything to do with me,
but I think we have great players.
And those great players, you know, they show how hungry they are.
They play hard every day.
That's the beautiful thing.
That's right.
So, Pat Murphy, the skipper that everybody wants on their team
and everybody wants to have in their barbecue.
We really appreciate the time that you've taken.
Yeah, we have grown to know and love him through
Ted's interviews through our six pack of questions.
I wanted to ask him about the pocket pancakes,
but well, I thought I'd just keep it about the moment today.
But you see the crowd here is just absolutely going nuts
because they love Pat Murphy.
They love this guy.
So it has been an honor to see him come through.
And we know all he has done for this city, for this team,
and for the smallest team.
In the Major League Baseball team,
family and unit, but we see what happened.
We were the little engine that could,
led by this guy who brought so many dreams
and so many hopes alive to so many people here after 44 years.
They were ravenous for a victory, and they got one,
in large part because of Pat Murphy.
I think that's a fair statement, don't you guys?
I think it's an absolutely fair statement, Mary, you bet.
And now the DPW truck's doing, Tim, what the Brewers could not do.
Sweep.
So close.
They came so close.
Nice topical reference.
Everybody.
