David Bailey Just Did The Unthinkable...
Oct 14, 2026
The Jets have found their next superstar.
David Bailey was questioned.
Is he worth the third overall pick?
Where's David Bailey?
Well, Sunday he broke out in a massive way with three sacks,
and he absolutely transformed the look
and feel of this Aaron Glenn defense.
What's going on, guys?
I'm Josh Byrne.
You're tuned into Jets Digest.
Guys, thank you so much for all the engagement and all the support
through the early part of this season for me

Now, Aaron Glenn, he was faced with a must-win.
No two ways about it.
He had to have this game.
Am I saying that if the Jets didn't pull off the victory at home
against the Cleveland Browns during what was, for part of the game,
an absolute monsoon out in East Rutherford?
No, I'm not saying he would have necessarily been fired.
But I think we can all forecast exactly where the season was going
had they not pulled out the 17-12 victory.
And another key element going into this game was
what were we going to see out of David Bailey?
Because despite the Jets' defense looking vastly improved
over the first two and a half games of this season,
the game against the Bears was not pretty.
Now we know that the Jets could have easily had
up to four interceptions in that game
and three of them were taken away by flags.
But the fact remained they could not get any pressure on Tyson Bajan.
The fact remained prior to that that they could
not get any pressure on Jared Goff.
And so when you looked at the Browns coming in,
a team that was flying high,
coming off three consecutive victories,
Deshaun Watson turning back the clock,
playing the best football we've seen him perform as,
as a Cleveland Brown,
you figured if the Jets are going to have success on defense,
they need to get more from David Bailey.
Perhaps a little too harsh,
perhaps a little unfair to expect so much out of a rookie playing
in just his fifth game overall, but man,
did he live up to those expectations and then
some on Sunday.
Pro Football Network 365 grading him
as their highest graded NFL edge rusher in week five,
entering Monday Night Football, giving him a grade of 95.3.
that is 4.3 points above the second highest,
Will Anderson, and we all know how good he is.
If you look at the final stats for David Bailey on the game,
he had three total sacks,
seven tackles, five of them solo, and four total QB hits.
Absolute demon, absolute dog.

that's the Otis Edge now again speaking of edges
there was none better than David Bailey, you stadium pointing out
that David Bailey is now
one of just six rookies, just six rookies all time since 2000
to record at least five sacks in their
first five NFL games, Bailey joins an impressive list
of Elmas Duvernayville who had six mark
Anderson, Von Miller, Chris Jones
and James Houston, a number of either Hall of Famers or future Hall
of Famers on that list or guys who are just very very good
and it is questionable because you look
at what Pro Football Focus tweeted
and they said the only players with three plus sacks in the game
within their first five career games over
the last 20 NFL seasons is just Aiden Hutchinson and David
Bailey and the reason I say it's questionable
because PFF was the same outlet to give David
Bailey, a 40th ranked pass rush grade
and look I utilize Pro Football Focus grades a good amount
in my videos i think it's a useful outlet
um but i think it's an imperfect uh analysis at times and
you know to be honest i just plainly don't agree
with that i posted a short about it about David
Bailey really breaking out with the three sacks
and some people and they were right to do so
pointed out that there were times during
this past game against the against the Browns where
Bailey was being held
and he perhaps could have had more sacks if he got some more calls so i
don't understand not giving him one
of the highest grades pass rushing wise this season but i digress
Aiden Hutchinson doing things
that only he has done i mean Aaron Glenn knows all too well about
what that means for a defense
when you have a guy like Aiden Hutchinson who can steward
that that edge of the line
and create pressure this is something that Aaron Glenn wasn't getting
from his defense and I mentioned last week about
the the implications of adding Nathaniel Lynn
I don't think Nathaniel Lynn was the reason
that David Bailey got three sacks I think the reason
that David Bailey got three sacks is because he's extremely talented
and we had seen it the entire
summer we had seen him and the reports coming out
that he was the best player on the field
we saw the co-practices with the Buccaneers where again
the Buccaneers offensive line didn't have
any answers for him and that's why it was a little jarring
that he was relatively quiet still had two
sacks still had a forced fumble in the first four weeks
but it wasn't exactly lighting things up and
being that difference maker
and when you look back to the reasons why the New York Jets decided to
take David Bailey over Orville Reese in which
that was a very highly contested decision there
a lot of people disagreed with it well
the main thought process was that David Bailey would give
this team a better chance to win right now.
He would be more of a day one contributor with his
ability to get after the quarterback.
And you saw that thought process and that decision to take him
number two overall paid dividends immediately in the game on Sunday.
Zach Rosenblatt making a point
here on X tweeting that David Bailey gets three sacks,
nine pressures, four QB hits, a 65.2 pass
rushing grade it's ridiculous
but again I digress on that you look at what Steve Geltz said and
yesterday marked the third time
in five games he obviously tweeted this yesterday that the Jets
defense held an opponent under 200 yards
of total offense they didn't do that once last season not
once and in fact they held opponents under 300
yards just four times all year so this was a very
impressive performance all around even
with that massive edge late in Chicago look Aaron Glenn
definitely deserves a lot of credit on the defense,
and yes, he does deserve credit for the development of David Bailey.
Obviously, David Bailey's the one putting in the hard work,
but when you look at this defense as a unit, it's been much improved,
and David Bailey becoming the next Jets superstar,
of which they've had many over the years
on the defensive side of the football,
is now looking increasingly likely.
But let me know what you guys thought
of David Bailey's performance this past weekend
and what you expect to see out
of him moving forward for him and the Jets defense.
Comment below, let me know, and as always, guys, let's go Jets.
