AI GeneratedMeteorologist Erica Horvathin reports a significant cooling trend in Arizona following a cold front. While the region enjoyed a perfect fall day with low humidity, a \"backdoor cold front\" is expected to bring dangerous wind gusts and fluctuating temperatures through the weekend.
We're watching the Fox 10 Weather Experts
with meteorologist Erica Horvathin on Fox 10 News.
Welcome back. Well, it was a beautiful, beautiful day.
Temperatures hitting 78 degrees for our high
in the valley. That was 12 degrees cooler than normal
and it was a cooler than normal morning
with a low of 58 degrees. So this was our coolest morning since March,
which is pretty crazy. It's
been about 200 plus days since we've seen morning temperatures
this cool and it was just great to
see that gorgeous afternoon high as well especially
because the humidity is gone. So our dew points
have dropped. We have dry air all across the state
and so it's really feeling like what we're reading
on the thermometer. No more of that mugginess from the tropics.
Up north it was 55 in Flagstaff and
63 in Sedona, 61 in Show Low.
So everybody's really experiencing fall today
and a perfect fall day at that.
So our temperatures are accompanied by lighter winds.
Those winds were a bit gusty this morning,
but they have really lightened up and clear skies.
It's been a beautiful day.
Now that cold front that we saw pass through yesterday
is what left us with those cool temperatures.
Now that cold front is tracking off
to the east along with the storm system.
And by tomorrow to Friday, it's going to be way out in the Midwest.
But we are going to see a very interesting setup in the coming days.
We're going to see what we call a backdoor cold front.
The rest of that cold air that's diving in behind
the low-pressure system is going to whip across the southwest.
So we're going to be seeing that easterly wind flow bringing
cool air back into the valley as we go closer to this weekend.
and high pressure always flows toward low pressure
so we have those winds kind of accelerating for
that reason as well.
This is going to lead to some very gusty winds tomorrow night through
Friday morning. Those are going to be coming
in from the east northeast and we're going to be
seeing wind advisories and high wind warnings across southern Arizona
because of that. So there
are high wind warnings beginning tomorrow night
lasting through Friday night for southeast Arizona
where there could be 55 to 70 mile per hour wind gusts.
As for Gila County, Pinal County, and Maricopa County,
these wind advisories will begin by Friday morning,
lasting through Friday afternoon for south of the valley,
and lasting until Saturday morning for east of the valley
for 45 to 50 mile per hour wind gusts.
So this is some serious wind.
And while most of the valley is not underneath these wind advisories,
it is going to be very windy in the valley as well.
with those gusts up to around 40 to 45 miles per hour.
Here's a look at tomorrow morning, and we're still pretty quiet,
but the winds will start picking up
in the high country by tomorrow midday afternoon.
This is tomorrow evening, showing at least 30 to 45 mile
per hour gusts in spots like Sedona and Payson.
While we will see those winds picking up tomorrow night
in the valley up to around 30 miles per hour,
And on Friday, especially during the morning hours,
I mean, look at these winds across the state.
It's not just southern Arizona. It's the high country as well.
Eventually, they should die down around Saturday,
and then we'll be looking at some slightly calmer conditions
as we go throughout our weekend.
And on top of that, this is going to keep those overnight lows cool
at times as we go through the next few days.
Tonight, we'll see a low of 59 in Phoenix,
32 in Flagstaff, and 47 in Sedona.
Tomorrow, our high temperatures will rebound.
88 degrees will be our high in the Valley,
70 in Sedona, and 55 in Flagstaff.
But we do have some more cool mornings
and cool days in store through this weekend.
Luckily, it's a short-lived warm-up over the next couple of days.
Our temperatures will drop back
to 81 degrees on Saturday and 85 on Sunday.
Looking perfect.
Love to see it.
Yeah.
Beautiful weather.
I know. We love it. Thanks, Erica.
