Turning now to our other top stories tonight.
Dunwoody High School students say the water
in their school is black and smelly.
And because of this, school officials announced
the school will be shut down for the rest of the week.
Fox 5's Denise Dillon is live in Dunwoody tonight.
Denise, Thursday and Friday will now be virtual learning days.
Yeah, that's right.
Now, school officials say there have been problems
this week in the school with both the water and the A.C.
So they made the decision to shut the school down Thursday
and Friday to repair the issues.
It's like black and clumpy. It looks disgusting.
That's how Dunwoody High School student Jaden Barnes describes
the water inside the school.
And it has a foul smell.
It smells like poop.
And it did kind of stink, which wasn't great.
School officials say there was a water valve problem that led
to discolored water in various parts of the building.
Bottled water was brought in for the students
and staff and to be used in the kitchen.
I felt like it was probably unhealthy, maybe unsafe for the kids.
They didn't have access to good drinking water.
The water problem also affected the HVAC system.
I think it was Monday,
it was 84 degrees by the end of the day in my first period,
and I really struggle under heat, so that was the hardest part.
I was actually here the other night for a parent meeting
and it was very hot in the building.
School officials say the A.C. has since been fixed,
but the water repairs will take a bit longer.
So Thursday and Friday will be a virtual learning day.
This should have been addressed early on.
Parents want to know if the problems have been going on all week.
Why are they just now hearing from the school?
I got the information from my daughter, not from the school.
And they want answers.
Why are we just being notified
and why would you let the kids come to school under these conditions?
and school officials wanted to clear up one thing there
were concerns about mold in the
portable classrooms that you're looking
at right there they say there is no mold however out of an
abundance of caution air quality tests will
be conducted again virtual days thursday and friday
before and after school activities will continue
as scheduled reporting live in dunwoody denise
Dillon, Fox 5 News.
Yeah, changing the the calendar for students that really
highlights this must be a serious issue out there. Denise, thanks.
