Video Summary
AI GeneratedQuarterback Jayden takes full accountability for a late-game failure that led to a tie, emphasizing the need for better urgency and communication. He discusses his mental recovery process, strategic adjustments to the offense, and his preparations for an upcoming high-stakes matchup against the 49ers, while reflecting on the mentorship that shapes his leadership.
It's hot in here.
It's hot in here, right?
I could tell.
Back west.
It's hot.
Jayden, just obviously going to go back to that play.
I'm just curious, when you look back at it,
after with the timeouts, no timeouts, whatever,
not a lot of urgency by the group to get up and get back to the ball.
Did you guys not grasp either how much time was left or the situation?
I mean, just going back and reflecting on it and,
you know, sitting back
and ultimately I know it's a lot of he say
or whatever they're trying to make,
but ultimately, like, it's on me at the end of the day.
I know DQ is getting a lot of slack for it or whatever, you know,
but regardless of what happens,
I'm the person on the field that's supposed to
calm everything, control everything,
and I fell to the standard I hold myself to
and the standard in this organization.
So it's just something for me to move on.
I'm not saying I'm proud of it or anything.
Obviously, looking back, like, it could have resulted in a loss.
We tied, but it was a fail in my eyes, and,
you know, I know I'm better than that.
I hold myself to a higher standard than that.
So, moving forward, I'll grow from it and learn from it,
and it'll never happen again.
And then, obviously, there's been a lot of criticism, Robbie, at you.
I'm sure you've seen some of it.
I'm just curious what you've thought
of that and how you deal with that.
I'm moving on to San Francisco.
So, you know, I can't say it's not warranted because of what happened.
You know, everybody has opinions to say,
opinions to speak, and rightfully so.
So I can't stop nobody from saying their opinion or anything like that.
It's just about my process and moving forward
and learning from it and moving on.
Sorry to go back to it, but do you change anything during the week?
Like, how do you sort of improve there
and make sure it doesn't happen again?
Nah, it's just learning from it, taking accountability of it,
And moving forward, like I said, it won't happen again.
And you mentioned just the communication from everybody, really.
How do you guys work on that during the week?
How do you kind of get that going to where you want it to be
and to where it can help you and everybody else?
Everybody just being dialed, being on the same page.
Like I said, it starts with me, and,
like, the coaches could call the play
or it could be chaos and havoc on the sideline,
and ultimately, you know, I'm the one that controls that huddle,
and it's on the field.
So all eyes are on me, and I just didn't execute to my standard.
Jay, what's the statute
of limitations where you have thought about that play,
kind of internalized what happened,
know what went wrong, know what needs fixing,
and say, okay, I have in my mind,
I understand what happened, and I take the responsibility.
How long did that take you to kind of get to this?
um i mean fairly quick um as far
as you know once emotions emotions are everywhere all throughout
the stadium um and once you kind of just settle down
and realize um and get to reflect you know
um is there something that you know kept me up
at night you know what can i've done better um
even prior to that play and stuff like that like
um and you know you just try to move forward and
move on and um something that you know me
and my dad always talked about was you know you get a 24
hour rule so you get to feel sorry for yourself for 24 hours
and uh you got to move forward after
that and luckily you know we got a monday night
so it might have been a little 48 hours for me but
um you know you always got to continue to try
to improve keep moving forward um because we do have
a very good test with the 49ers coming up on Monday night, hey Jayden
and talking about moving
on to face the 5 and 0 49ers, what are some key things
that you're looking at, things that you
all have to do and be sharp at offensively
um you know uh limit the the pre-snap penalties uh
communicating, make sure everybody's on the same page
and uh running off the ball, you know we're
going to a hostile environment, obviously they're humming, it's
a very good team and they're well
coached so you know we got our hands full coming up on Monday night
so playing with the brace, have
you embraced the brace? um I would say I did
um you know it's I wasn't thinking about it so yeah I did
um Jayden, you obviously you're uh were able
to run very effectively in that game, what was for you
what I guess what were you seeing out there
was it something that they were
um doing or just you're being aggressive
and seeing uh taking out opportunities
nah um just picking my spots
and you know there's sometimes they're playing man coverage with no
spy and uh you know receivers hit
the landmarks, everybody's eyes are opposite and not on me so
So I had a rushing lane, and, you know,
obviously I've seen a lot of green grass
and was able to make them pay for it
Every star quarterback goes through some down period like this
or a moment like this
I know this may seem weird in a moment
but it's the type of thing I got to –
it's going to happen at some point.
Let me get it out of the way, learn from it, and move forward.
I just think you always go through some adversity.
Like I said before, Marcus kind
of told me I'm not going to say, you know,
I'm one of the greats, but, you know,
he told me every great one, you know,
has been through adversity in their career.
And, you know, you got to deal with it.
You got to learn from it and move forward
and not dwell on it and let it affect you.
Obviously, as a competitor, as a person,
like you feel like you let everybody around you down.
But, you know, I have a great team and,
you know, people in the locker room, you know,
that have my back and, you know, uplifting me in those moments.
And ultimately, you know,
I'm the one that had to take ownership of it and move forward from it.
Jaden, like you said earlier,
DQ's been hearing a lot of it from in here, outside in general.
What did you learn about your coach this week by taking all the blame?
I mean, that's just the person he is,
you know, the type of person that he is.
And obviously, you know, all eyes are on him, all eyes are on me.
And, you know, regardless of how people talk about him,
you know, we love DQ here.
You know, I appreciate him.
I always say that for, you know,
making my dreams come true of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.
And, you know, he helped me with the opportunity.
So super blessed to have DQ and, you know, he means a lot to me.
And sitting where you guys are right now at 1-3-1,
going into the undefeated 49ers,
how do you avoid hangover from last week
into a huge game going into the bye?
It's just all about the process, all about the process.
It doesn't change a win, a loss, or whatever.
You learn from it, and you stick to your process.
Nothing changes.
You go out there, and you just take it day by day, one step at a time.
Jaden, when you have a loss like that,
obviously a lot of the focus is on the
yeah it was a lot on the last play
but you know in the fourth quarter as well you know you guys
you know blew a lead um as a team within
the locker room just from a player perspective like
how do you guys avoid finger pointing in that situation
whether it's offense towards the defense
or vice versa um it's a collective thing
um offensively regardless of what happened on the
defensive side we did not close the game
and i'm pretty sure the defense felt the same way so um
it's not just one side of the ball
or like this side should have done better that side should have
done better as a collective then we all collectively put ourselves
in that position um you know to end
up with the tie and you know we did not finish
um you know we had opportunities to finish i know
offensively we did uh to put the game away
and we did not in that fourth quarter in particular
it seemed like the offense the passing game
in particular on the offense wasn't clicking for
you guys but you guys got it going later
on in overtime before that last play i mean what do
you think was off in the fourth quarter
and what did you guys find at the end of the game maybe
that you can carry forward?
You know, we just got to learn from it.
You know, they were bringing a lot of zero pressure.
I got to be able to get different checks to the guys
and, you know, ultimately just be playing the quarterback position,
make sure we're in the right position
to be able to get the ball out to the
perimeter to the skill guys so they can make plays
and hopefully break a couple tackles and make some things happen.
Jaden, you mentioned, you know,
the 24 hours after the game you had that time.
I think you all were off Tuesday and Wednesday.
for you just personally what did you use in that time both
to get over sunday but then also to help
you move to the next game um well move
to the next game was you know just my process like
you know i was treating it like it
was a sunday game obviously you know we had more extended time
off um but you know it's kind of just
the same process sticking to it you know lifting and film
watching and starting uh having getting an early jump
on the 49ers um after watching the tape back
from the game but the other part i mean you know kind
of i mean you still still think about stuff
like that right um but it can't help me it can help me moving forward
but you know i can't dwell
on the past too much you know
because i got a game on monday night to worry about non-football
stuff that you mentioned the lifting
um yeah i think you know just my circle checking on me
everybody checking on me asking me how i'm doing
um because they see more of the the scrutiny and
criticism more than more than i do um you know i see some of it
but you know everybody's checking
on me but it's all it's all up to me it's all part of my process
and um i was able to move
forward from it and get ready for this week i've addressed
the team after to start this week as
as kind of your leadership approach do you address the offense
or anything or how do you kind of
approach these situations yeah i mean
um you guys stand up there in front and you know um be a man
right um everybody the part of it it was ultimately on me
so i was saying my two cents and letting the
guys know like you know it would never happen again
um and you know we're gonna move forward
from that you mentioned your teammates support
in that in addressing them a little bit earlier
just what do you feel like their response
was when you did kind of address them and you know
just their response overall
um i mean i would say they they know how much this game means to me and
And, you know, just a laugh like that,
you know, is uncharacteristic for myself.
And like I said, it's not the standard that I hold myself to.
So obviously they're supporter of it
And, you know, they're all saying, you know,
we're just going to move forward from this
and get ready for next week's game.
And there's nothing we can do in the past.
We can't go back and change the outcome or anything like that.
You can just learn from it.
Good afternoon, Jaden.
Tight end production on your offense has been very much increased
when you're in at quarterback
versus some of the other quarterbacks have been.
Chig Okonkwo has also been injured during some of that part as well.
How much of that is anecdotal,
and how much of that do you feel is part of
how the defense has to defend you versus maybe some other guys?
I don't know.
I'm thinking they just – I thought it was an open guy.
And, you know, Chig happened to be the open guy in some of the plays.
And maybe it could be because of me or who else is in the lineup.
I don't really have those numbers on that, but, you know,
I'm just doing my job and, you know, trying to find an open receiver.
Obviously, DQ's gotten a lot of heat this week,
some for David Bell as well.
That last play included,
but how was the communication with you and Blau?
Regardless, I think, you know, he communicated the situation,
the play and everything like that.
And for me, it's just like, like I said, it's ultimately on me.
Like DQ got the heat, Bell, whatever,
myself, I wouldn't even say it would be,
I don't even put it on the coaches.
I got to be aware, more aware, go out there and,
you know, manage the game right.
And I did not do that.
So it doesn't matter what happens on the sideline between
the coaches or anything like that.
I got to notice everything that's happening and make sure
that we're in the right situation to win the football game.
Big picture, how much do you feel you learned this week?
I mean, a lot.
I feel like I just was able to grow as a person from this.
And, you know, I was told growing up,
don't make the same mistake twice.
So, you know, made it once, and we'll make it again.
You guys are getting blitzed
at a super high rate, a lot of zero blitzes.
What can you do as an offense to kind
of operate better and handle that pressure?
You know, sit down with Blau
and offensively his offensive staff and myself,
have some answers for it, knowing that, you know,
teams are going to try to get the ball out of my hand,
heat us up right and everything like that.
So just have an answer from him and, you know, preparing for it.
Coach, what's your vision for the rest of the day?
um i will say outside
well i consider you know
my family my mom
and my dad for sure um
i will say uh a person that that has you know
been honest with me a lot like you like you said
His name is Sherman Wilson.
You know, he's like a big brother to me.
Met him back at LSU, so he's one of those type
of people who will tell me, like,
if I'm lacking or, you know,
it's not up to my standard, he'll let me know.
Appreciate y'all.
Thank you.
