AI GeneratedDespite a strong 45-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals, the Detroit Lions are actively exploring trades to bolster their secondary. Head coach Dan Campbell remains concerned about blown coverages and poor passing defense statistics, leading the team to target several cornerback options during their bye week to improve their defensive efficiency.
Well, the Lions are heading into the bye week after
an impressive win over the Arizona Cardinals,
45-21 this past Sunday,
but that's not stopping the trade rumors from swirling.
The trade talk is picking up steam again as the Lions
are looking for some help on the defensive side of the ball.
We're going to dive into all of this, what the ramifications could be,
and a whole lot more on this edition of Lions Digest.
Hey everybody, yours truly, Captain Lou here.
want to take a moment to welcome those of you
that might be checking us out for the first time
here to the program and if you haven't done it yet i invite you
to hit that subscribe button
it's free come along on the journey with us
and the lions here in 2026 we invite you to be a part
of the conversation and all the live reaction plus all
the upcoming stuff we got yet here in
the season right here on lions digest well
as we mentioned the lions are coming off a very
impressive victory over the Arizona Cardinals probably
their most impressive on the defensive
side of the ball giving up only and I say only 21 points
but that's not stopping the trade rumors
from swirling and the trade talk to be picking up even here
in this bye week now we all heard
what head coach Dan Campbell said a couple of weeks ago
when they were indeed in on the trade
talks with the possibility of getting Joey Porter Jr. now
as it turns out this might be a blessing
in disguise not getting him
because now he's coming up on the injured list again this time
with the Cowboys with an ankle
but as I said it's not stopping the Lions from being involved in trade
discussions some of the teams that they've
been rumored to have discussions with include the New
York Jets and Brandon Stevens is the first name
that's been brought up from the Jets now again
and they've got a familiar face over there with Aaron Glenn.
But Brandon Stevens has had a great year so far,
done very well since he's joined the Jets.
Let's take a look at his coverage grades, and it speaks for itself.
Ranked ninth highest amongst coverage for corners at a 74.4.
But this next number is the one that really intrigues me the most,
and that's his man coverage.
And right now, he's ranked in the top six, 88.7.
Now, we know the Lions are most efficient,
and they play man instead of zone.
And this would be a very welcome addition to DJ Reed
and Roger McCreary right now
as cornerbacks for the Lions.
But here's the season line for Stevens, 14 tackles.
He hasn't had any interceptions yet,
so that's something to keep in mind.
But the biggest issue I think you could see
with Stevens could be with his contract.
He comes with a $14 million cap hit.
That might be a little bit too high for the Lions,
and especially for GM Brad Holmes.
Now, he has been rumored
also to be warranting probably a fourth-round draft pick.
So there's one name that's in the trade rumor circuit.
Not sure if the Lions would go with that.
Here's one that I think you've got
to keep an eye on, though, for the Lions,
that I think might make a little more sense, and that is Dante Jackson.
Now, again, he's had nine interceptions in 24 and 25.
So he may be a little more of a ball hawk
for the Lions should they pick him up at corner.
And what I like about him, too, is he's just a rental.
He's on the last year of his contract.
That's always huge.
That means the price tag may not be as high,
maybe a sixth or a seventh round draft pick.
and his contract, again, it's an $8.5 million salary cap hit,
but he's a free agent in 2027.
So that's something to keep in mind as well.
How about Garrett Williams?
I want to kind of take a look at him too.
This is another name that has been brought up along with Budda Baker,
but according to Pride of Detroit,
this is somebody that the Lions are looking at as well.
And the Cardinals are looking
for somebody maybe to recoup some draft picks.
Now he's been pretty good. His contract timing, here's the look.
It potentially fits with the
expiring contract. He's going to be ending
his contract expires at the end of the year. Now
these are three names that I want to keep in mind.
They've been on the trade rumor circuit,
and again, they're starting to pick up steam for the Lions.
And lastly, here's a name that you
might want to keep in mind too, a couple of them.
Don't be surprised if the Lions are interested in
Zion McCollum. He's a name out of Tampa Bay.
We've featured him earlier with some potential trade
talks, and that's not going away either.
Keep an eye on that through the bye week in the next week
as the Lions look to prepare for the Green Bay Packers.
Now, as the Lions prepare for the Green
Bay Packers, one thing that I want you to keep in mind,
we've been five for five on telling you to
trade yes on the over for the total between
the two teams once that number comes out we will
recommend you do that as well
and trade yes with our brand new partner here on Lions Digest and of
course that's Kalshi now remember
when you're working with Kalshi you're trading directly
against other users not the traditional sports book you're buying yes
or no contracts on the
outcomes of events across sports politics
or even the weather and of course yesterday we also brought
up the fact that the Lions right now
their quarterback Jared Goff is trading at 18 percent
to be the NFL passing leader at the end of the year
if you trade 25 dollars on that you're going
to get 91 for a return on top of the 25 dollars such
a huge return why do we say 25 dollars it's that simple
use the link in the description below
and make sure that you use the promo code digest nfl and
when you trade your first 25 dollars with that promo code you get 55 dollars back
into your account instantly it's
that simple all the games right now trade
on calcium well with that being said with the lions
with the trade rumors swirling for the uh maybe cornerback help
in the backfield on the defensive
side of the ball there's still some remaining concerns even
with what they've got right now
and this is why the trade rumors
are still circulating Dan Campbell has been quoted as
saying there's still too many blown coverages by this unit
so another reason why you could expect
something to happen here for the Lions now let's take a look
though at McCreary's big game as he
got six pass breakups against the Arizona Cardinals
so I'm not taking anything away from him he's done
quite well but again this would be a huge upgrade
and for uh dj reed he's allowed just he allowed
just 73 yards on seven targets it's
a step in the right direction for dj reed but we've
also seen too what he's done against some
of the other big name receivers in the first four weeks
and again the numbers speak for themselves
the lions are at or near the bottom in just about
every defensive category against the pass
and total points so the trade rumors are there
definitely for the Lions so we're going to ask you this real quick
which cornerback plan is best for
Detroit trade for Brandon Stephens perhaps taking
a swing with Garrett Williams from Arizona even
though he could come with a price
or keep improving the current team we would love to see what your
response would be in the comments below
and again one more tag that i want to show you the lions have
now surrendered 1227 yards passing through four games
and of course you add on what they gave up
on when on last sunday that puts them over 1500 yards
so that is why you can see that look on
head coach dan campbell more often than not so again
the lions trade rumors are picking up who
could it be could it be right here
or could it be dante jackson uh who knows the lions are in the
mix for all of those along again as we mentioned
with brandon stevens all right that's going to do
it for this edition of lions digest again i invite everybody hit
that subscribe button it's free
come along on the journey with us
and the lions here in 2026 for those of you that have i say
thank you very much the response has definitely been off the charts
and again proving why you're
