Well, prepare yourself for some of the best frights
in Washington State as Nile Nightmares
brings the scares back to the Mt. Lake Terrace area.
And today, we've got John Hopperstad here in costume,
by the way, ladies and gentlemen.
John Hopperstad, you're used to seeing him on the news here as just...
I'm a scarecrow.
Okay.
I'm a scarecrow.
Today, we are joined by Peter Pawlik
of the Nile North Nightmares and one of their
very talented uh makeup artists welcome you
to welcome you guys uh thank you for being here
give us a little bit of an idea
of the entertainment factor that's happening with
Nile Nightmares this this season what's going
on well great thanks adam hey we're glad to be here
and we're having a great season the weather's
been great for haunting uh we've got a thousand
scares out there at our haunt uh we're gonna get you somewhere
so come on out and see us we've got
a kids day coming up on saturday
so we're having lots of fun love to see y'all come out this
weekend and Sam Campbell is also a part
of this whole situation as well it's me
oh it's you okay we said Sammy stay
out there I see all right so all right
perfectly Ellie really know it's
been years of fear for the Nile Nightmares
what makes this kind
of event what makes it special each year yeah this is
actually our 16th year of haunting
and I think what makes our haunt so special is
that we are a complete volunteer cast of actors
and they really want to be there
They really want to act, they really want to scare you.
These are the real deal actors.
So you come out and see us, you're gonna know
that you've gone to a real haunted house and
really got scared.
So that's what we do.
And I understand there are some low scare days
as well for kids to be a little
more kid friendly.
Is that correct?
That's correct.
We do have a kid's day and that is this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It's a low scare event.
We've got bouncy houses,
the introduction to haunted houses for all ages.
And for our makeup artists,
how long does it actually take to get folks into character?
It really depends.
So we have cue actors, such as David here.
His look can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour
and a half, depending on how in
depth.
Yeah.
Then our general actors, it can be anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes,
depending on the complexity
of their characters.
Right, because I noticed
you've got some prosthetics
going on here.
And you've got the airbrush
going on.
So you're combining
all the flavors of makeup
going on here.
Yes, I'm also one of the
cue actors as well.
Okay.
So, yes.
How does the community
get involved in all of this
as well?
We definitely want to get
the community involved.
We draw a lot on the local
high schools for actors.
We always are active
in the community year-round,
just kind of getting people
excited about coming down
helping us out so yeah very cool uh hours
of operation how does that run exactly yeah we're
open every uh every weekend friday saturday sunday 7 p.m
to 11 on friday and saturdays we
close at 10 on sundays
so if i'm driving north i go north on i-5 i get up into towards mount
lake terrace and what's the exit that i'm using
to get off there you take the edmunds exit off
i-5 right we're right there off the edmunds exit excellent
and these creepy creatures here we've
got John Hopperstad here in character.
John has been our go-to guy. We've been putting him into
face makeup. This is the second time this year he's
been into character. This one now also in
full costume. We've got a comparison here between,
John, you're dressed now as the scarecrow, but I
believe we also have a photo of you about a week ago as well.
So we're getting a different flavor
entirely when we get this,
noting that you can see the difference between the different styles,
between the different haunts that you venture into.
I was a demon zombie last week, and now, look at that.
Look, I'm dressed in a suit, a scary suit.
What is it that makes a character scary for you guys?
Is it the clowns? Is it the zombies? Is it the monsters?
What makes a haunt spooky?
It depends. I mean, like I say, everybody has a different fear.
So in our haunt, we play on all of them.
I mean, we have everything from mummies to cannibals.
We have, I say we have the clowns, we have witches,
we have undead, we have demons, we
have it all.
So whatever it is, we're going to find it.
Right.
And no doubt there's an air of mystery
also that just kind of surrounds the fact that
we're dealing with the Nile and the shrine.
And there's always kind of a bit of question that might be there.
So there's something of mystery for us.
Trust me, we will find your fear and we will exploit it.
Nile Nightmares,
thank you so much Peter and team for being here with us.
Excellent John also in character at this point.
We've got more Good Day Seattle for you coming up right after this.
