I'm here with Emory McLean Jr.,
senior running back for this West Charlotte team
after 15-14 wins over Butler.
You carried the ball like 22 times today.
Most of the yards today were on the ground because of you.
Can you just speak to the run game and how you showed up tonight?
Right.
The run game was very good today.
We worked on it all week in practice,
really for two weeks because we had a bye last week.
We knew, like, okay, we had a bye.
We can't slack off.
So we were working on that for two weeks straight.
So I knew he was going to come in here and run the ball.
And then your defense had three interceptions.
I know your job is to carry the ball,
but what's it like when you can be on the sideline
and see that your team gets the ball back?
Right.
It feels really great because it shows, like,
everybody care.
We're a brotherhood, and everybody want to win the game.
You know, we had to come together as a team tonight
to win the game, and that's what it takes.
Yeah, I mean, I thought it was a little messy
with the turnovers and whatnot.
We thought at halftime they didn't really stop us at all.
It was just the turnovers we had.
And Emory's the senior, man.
He's been steady for us all year long,
and we told him we're going to lean on him in the second half.
Shout out to the O-line, man.
They showed up tonight, gave him some lanes, and he did what he do.
Your quarterback is a freshman, right?
Yeah, 14.
What can you say about that guy?
Leading this team that young.
I mean, I tell him all the time,
you play the toughest game, man,
I mean, I was playing JV at 14.
I mean, if you look at this kid,
he's played Grimsley and Carrollton and Creek,
all at 14, his first seven games,
And he's growing as the season goes along.
He's starting to take control of this team.
and managing games, and he's a playmaker, man.
He does some things that you've got to live and die with
with a 14-year-old, but the future's real bright
out of this kid.
Three interceptions for your defense tonight.
Can you talk about just how important it is
to turn the ball over and get it back?
Man, when our defense is locked in
and they got attention and detail
and that kind of thing around,
they're really, really good, man.
Our D-line is pretty good,
and Xavier Stephens and the rest of those guys,
if you hang it up there, they can make some plays.
We should have had four.
We dropped one down there.
We always talk about opportunities,
but very proud of the way they kind of got them
this crowd we saw the cheerleaders there
was that like just for the program i mean this is
my first homecoming here
at West Charlotte i will say it's very different uh this community
loves this school man it's been uh it's been very very good
and and exciting to be a part of it and
um they showed up and showed out tonight man like it
was a great atmosphere man the entrance was
surprising i didn't know we was coming out like
that we didn't know there were no i didn't know
it was just all like it was good man it
was a real good night appreciate you thank you
