Some light-hearted moments from the Sault Ste. Marie mayoral debate
Oct 19, 2026
What's your favorite kind of pizza?
That's actually a difficult question,
because I pretty much can eat any type.
But I kind of nowadays like
the stuffed crust, so I'll lean towards that.
But if I have to pick one, it's the Canadian.
My wife's a Celiac, so I don't get a lot
of options sometimes on where I get to eat pizza.
But we've found out that Little Caesars actually
is made up of what must be a different kind of flour.
But I definitely like stuffed crust, too.
So I've got three cousins that own three different pizzerias in town.
And which is your favorite?
My first job was at Pizza Pizza West, flipping pizzas.
And my favorite is a regular crust, pepperoni mushroom banana pepper.
I think it's a toss-up between barbecued chicken
and there's another one that's cheesy.
I forget what it is,
but I picked it up at Flying J at like 2 in the morning.
What's a perfect day in Sault Ste. Marie?
Joel Roswell.
I would say for me is being on my boat out on the water.
We have the most beautiful city ever,
and everybody should get to enjoy it.
Starts at 5.30 when my kids wake me up.
They're 8 and 5, and so biking with them.
My one son's still on training wheels,
trying to teach him how to get off the training wheels.
Hiawatha is a favorite spot of ours.
We were at the Zipline today
for my youngest's birthday at Bellevue Park,
and so being outside with the kids, with my wife, is a perfect day.
And then dinner at my mom's house.
Nice start to the day, maybe some indoor work, mow the lawn,
and even go for a drive just north of town a little bit,
beautiful area,
and finish it off with some games in the evening.
I really like going to Whitefish
because I love the sound of the leaves,
and then I love sitting in, I actually sit in the water in the rapids.
People think I'm crazy,
but I like feeling the water and listening to that.
It really shows you how we should appreciate how green Sault Ste.
Marie is and what we have.
Do you have any tattoos?
Nope.
I'll say this.
I was always scared.
Still am.
I was always scared of my mom
and scared that if I got a tattoo, I'd be in big trouble.
And so I never got one.
Matthew Toffelmeyer?
None.
Salvador?
Are you asking to see them?
No, kidding.
No, I don't have any tattoos.
Joel Roswell?
No tattoos, but maybe I will get one one day.
So the next mayor of Sault Ste. Marie will likely not have any tattoos.
If you went to the ballot box and you couldn't vote for yourself,
Which candidate would you vote for up here and why?
To decide that in just a few moments,
I'd have a hard time saying, honestly.
Seriously, I probably would vote for Mr. Toffelmeyer,
mainly because Mr. Roswell
and Mr. Shoemaker are going to have conflicts.
Since he's not here I'll say Josh McNally because he's
so much so much fun at the debates that we've
attended previously with him Mr. Roswell stole
my idea you can vote for him too
