This morning, soon every child in America could have SpaceX stock.
That's according to Elon Musk.
Yeah, it follows a plan from Anthropic
to place some of its shares into a public fund.
It is. Alex Whitler is at the Fox 5 Live desk with more.
Yeah, good morning to both of you.
The world's richest man has promised to give some
of his wealth to the youngest people in America,
and it could happen as soon as next year.
In a post on X, Elon Musk pledged to give one share of his company,
SpaceX, to every kid in America,
but he didn't say how that would be carried out.
With about 73 million children in the U.S. under 18,
that would amount to nearly $10.7 billion based
on Friday's closing stock price for SpaceX.
It comes after AI firm Anthropic announced it would commit
at least 5% of its shares to the company's new public benefit fund.
Now, Musk responded to that post-announcement,
writing, and I'm quoting here,
I recommend giving the shares directly to the public.
Musk has also said AI could be the only way
to deal with growing U.S. national debt.
Anthropic co-founder predicts
the technology could add trillions to the economy.
One model predicts vast economic transformation,
with U.S. GDP potentially reaching $44 trillion by 2030.
But it's implicated by the technology continuing to get better.
Well, a new AP poll, though,
finds Americans are increasingly concerned about AI,
with 64% saying they believe it's developing too fast.
And progressives on the campaign trail
warned the tech's rapid growth is a danger to society.
That's a sentiment that's made headlines for months now.
We have got to put a pause on advanced AI development
and a ban on superintelligence.
And all of this talk is in addition
to the president's Trump accounts initiative,
which gives $1,000 to American children
born between 2025 and 2028.
So it'll be interesting, Ron, to see how this all shakes out.
And if it does, man, I wish I was born just a little bit later.
I hear you.
I'm not even going to get into that one with you, that is for sure.
Alex, thank you so much.
