Well, let's talk about Election Day
because it's right around the corner.
We've got some bad news for students at city public schools.
They are not, you're not getting the day off.
Sorry.
Yeah.
Instead, you'll have to log in from home for remote classes.
Good day, Stephanie Bertini spoke to parents about this decision.
On Election Day, a remote learning day
is loading across New York City public schools.
Although typically Election Day is a day off,
this year students are required to log on and learn.
From my perspective, I think it's challenging for us
because we both are working.
It depends on the parents' schedule, right?
Yes, parents' schedule and the family members.
Remote learning requires parents to make sure
their kids are home and logged in
or have the proper care they need to stay in and learn.
For us, it's good because we don't have to wake up
and get them ready to come to school.
This father of three says he and his wife appreciate
the later start the election day schedule will bring.
We've got to wake up at 6 o'clock to start getting three of them ready.
Some parents say managing work and the kids isn't easy.
Child care arrangements can be complicated
and working from home with kids extra tough.
I have to say in terms of convenience for the parents,
it's still a day you can't work
because you have to have your kid at home
or you have to figure something out.
So that's a challenge.
However, if the children can participate in democracy
and come to the polls, I think it's a good experience.
There are parents planning to make
this election day a learning experience.
She's coming with me. She's my voting partner.
New York City Public Schools has
the remote learning schedule posted on its website.
And while the online schedule says
parent-teacher conferences start November 5th,
we know at least some schools may see
those meetings virtually on the same day as Election Day,
as noted in this notice sent to parents.
It can be a little bit frustrating because kids kind of,
if they have attention issues or, you know,
they have a hard time focusing, it might be a little bit challenging.
Now you've got to oversee it at home.
Yeah, exactly, especially if you also have more than one child at home.
Across the five boroughs,
public school students will be home on this November 3rd,
while it's clear how parents feel about it has a range.
