That's a good indication that changes are on the way.
We are watching a storm system develop
and potentially give us unfortunately rain for Halloween weekend.
Here's a look at those headlines. Temperatures are trending lower.
So today I'll call it mild considering that our temperatures will
be below average under mostly cloudy conditions and we'll even put
in a 10% chance of a sporadic shower in addition to the cloud cover.
But the bulk of that rain is set to move in sometime late Saturday.
We've increased the chance of a
to now 70 for Halloween Halloween evening
and into Sunday morning and some of that residual shower
could extend into Sunday afternoon coastal flood alerts
are still in effect if anything we have now
extended that advisory into Friday for all
our coastal areas temperatures for downtown LA
about 74 degrees and that is cooler than average typically we should
be right around 77 degrees
sunrise not until after 7 and sunset at 6:03 p.m. this evening.
Don't forget we have daylight
saving that's coming to an end on Sunday
so you'll get that extra hour of sleep. Here's a look at our
future cast. You can see how this plume
of moisture will eventually seep in. It's grabbing a hold of
that flow courtesy of an area of low pressure that's
also swinging through and into Sunday we
go. Light to moderate and heavy at times is possible,
so make sure you plan ahead for this
possibility of rainfall, especially if you have Halloween parties
or you're taking the kids out
trick-or-treating. Have that umbrella ready.
Maybe bring out the galoshes, the rain boots,
and be prepared during trick-or-treating hours
that the rain's going to stick around.
And taking a look at our coastal advisories,
again extended into Friday afternoon,
warnings are still in effect for Orange County and San Diego.
Near record-breaking high tides,
We've already seen it in areas of San Pedro as well
as areas of San Diego where high tides have broken records.
Tidal overflow and street closures
and beach erosion are still expected.
So we've got team coverage there for you.
And what is causing this abnormally high tide?
We have a couple elements in place.
It is now confirmed that we are in a very strong El Nino event.
Currently, temperatures are sitting
at 2.5 degrees Celsius above normal.
And in addition to that, in a El Nino year,
Kelvin waves develop and propagate towards the Americas,
splinter off a portion of that heading into North America
and along our coast.
And it's simply just a surge of warmer
than average high tide, or should I say,
a pulse of warm water,
elevating coastal waters above normal
to about six inches to even a foot.
Due to heat expansion, when water is heated, it expands,
and that's what's elevating these conditions.
We've got king tides still in effect.
We have a couple of rounds coming into November
during Thanksgiving week and Christmas week as well,
so a couple things that we have to bring to your attention
so you can prepare for those upcoming events.
We've got 72 degrees for the coast today,
rain opportunities, Halloween with the rain chances,
temperatures right around 74 degrees
under mostly cloudy conditions,
and we've got after the rain,
drier conditions moving into next week.
Halloween day for valleys. We are
looking at again rain opportunities for Southern California.
