Jim, thanks. We are just about an hour and a half away
from the beginning of Election Day here in North Texas.
And voters have some big decisions
on the ballot today, including the race for governor.
Fox 4's Dan Godwin, live outside
a polling station in Dallas with a look. Dan?
And Shannon, the race for governor this election has
been closer than many people would have initially predicted.
Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa joined Fox 4
on Battleground Texas to talk about her campaign.
Speaking with our Stephen Dial, she discussed tight polling
in the state and a less partisan future for Texas politics.
She says the polls that have shown
her trailing don't tell the full story,
and we will learn how Texas really votes
when the ballots are counted tonight.
We've been fighting culture wars for 10 years that are not winnable.
So this is about forging
a new way forward that is postpartisan,
where we aren't focused on the things that divide us,
but on the things that unite us.
That's economic opportunity.
Hinojosa also touched on an op-ed that ran in the Dallas Morning
News written by a Republican who says they are voting for her.
The news later shared the writer was a paid consultant for Hinojosa
and the paper said it would have declined
to publish the column if it had known at the time.
Hinojosa claims the criticism
is a distraction tactic by the Abbott campaign.
Republican Governor Greg Abbott wrapped up
his Let's Roll tour as he pushed for a fourth term.
He campaigned at three spots in Southeast, East, and South Texas.
He reminded supporters that the state has grown to be the world's
eighth largest economy during his three terms in office.
He also assured voters that Texas will stay red
while encouraging them to head to the polls.
One task ahead of us, and that is to make sure.
All Republicans go vote. You're exactly right.
We're going to keep Texas red.
And you know who's going to be responsible for keeping Texas red?
You're exactly right. It's you, the people I'm looking at.
The people like you across the entire state.
Both Abbott and Hinojosa are set to host watch parties tonight
in downtown Austin. The polls, meanwhile,
are open today throughout Texas from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
