“Off the Desk” is a non-scripted, podcast-style show where morning anchors Kaelee Collins and Julia O’Keefe talk about a range of topics in a more casual setting.
All right. Hey, everybody.
Welcome back to Off the Desk on this Friday Junior.
I'm Kaylee Collins. I'm Julia O'Keefe.
And I'm Chris Pazakis. Happy Thursday. Happy Thursday. Yeah.
It's a Friday Junior. It kind of already feels like a Friday.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Election Day, it's always a long,
it's always a packed week. Honestly.
Yesterday and Tuesday, clearly, were the biggest of the two days.
And as things kind of start to wind down,
we're definitely on the downhill.
Yes.
Inching closer to the weekend.
And it's been really nice out, so we got to take that.
It's been a nice week, yeah.
But that changed the day a little bit.
Finally got some rain.
It might honestly be kind of nice to see a little bit of the rain.
Yeah.
It's not going to be a lot, but it's something to talk about finally.
Yeah.
Rather than just sunny and warm every day.
It's been nice, though.
It's been nice, but I'm ready for this to be over.
Yeah.
I'm ready for the colder weather.
Yeah, it was weird yesterday for sure.
I mean, driving home, coming out of work
in the middle of the day and it being so nice
out, then driving home and the trees are bare, but it's so nice out.
Yeah.
And then.
At 4.30 yesterday, I was outside in a t-shirt
and shorts playing with my dogs as it's getting
dark out.
Yeah, it was weird.
Really a weather whiplash, not in terms of the elements,
but in time and season for sure.
Crazy.
I had my windows open last night in my house.
Yeah, we did too.
We live by the lake
so it's weird because obviously
they drain part of the lake
for winter time and to see the
dirt and mud with the
bare tree and all the leaves on the ground
but then it's sunny and it's 75.
Very strange.
Kind of give you like a spring vibe.
If you had like a warm April day, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I guess I could see that.
But it was weird.
Yeah, we broke the record actually yesterday for us here.
Oh, yeah, you said that.
Actually by like a good amount.
I mean, we got to 79.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
I mean, kind of nice, but yeah, very abnormal for this time of year.
Broke the record by three degrees.
Three degrees.
Yeah.
Set back in 1994.
The old record was 76.
Got to 79 yesterday.
Should I?
Wow. Crazy.
Like you said, it's going to be
a big shock next week once we're back to
the 50s. But surprisingly, that's actually
not the record high temperature for November.
The record high is 83.
Oh. Which was November
6th. It was set back in the
80s. I forget exactly which year, but
it was in the 80s.
So we were a bit away from that.
A little bit away from that.
But still, I mean, being around 80 degrees in November is pretty weird.
It's weird.
Remember that Christmas years ago that we were like 70 degrees?
I remember that.
Yeah.
It was weird.
It poured all morning.
And then it was just kind of warm and muggy.
I was 70.
I didn't like that.
It was weird.
It doesn't feel like Christmas.
No.
No.
But I remember that.
Yeah. And then when I was a kid,
I remember there was a big Thanksgiving snowstorm. So like the weather
this time of year can be really anything it kind of wants.
Yeah. Well, we'll have to gear up for some rain.
It felt like rain this morning.
It is. It was sprinkling or misting a little bit on my drive.
It was a little misty.
I cleared it with the windshield wipers a few times, but.
Yeah, it fell.
And that's when, so we have to be careful now with the wet leaves.
I was noticing one part of my drive
in particular where there was tons of leaves on the ground
and it's going to start to get wet.
So for driving too, definitely be careful.
No, that's a good thing to bring up.
Yeah, the leaves that are down.
Also, when it doesn't rain for so long and then it rains finally,
the roads can just
get slick on their own because all those oils
in the roads start to come up a little bit.
It can make the roads a little slipperier than usual.
Okay.
It gets slow.
So just be careful with that.
You've been lucky with no frost, though.
I know. I was thinking about it this morning.
I was like, this could be the end.
Yeah, it's coming.
Think some frosty mornings next week.
Yeah. Well,
it's November 5th.
It's National Donut Day.
Nice. That's a good one.
Exciting.
Maybe other places
are having promotional things, too, but I know
Dunkin' Donuts is, so if you go
and you get a coffee or
a matcha or any beverage at Dunkin',
you get a free donut.
Just when I was going to cut back on Dunkin' Purchases.
That's a special occasion.
I mean, yeah.
Maybe I'll go and get a free donut.
Do you guys have a favorite donut?
Boston Cream.
I like the Boston Cream.
Yeah.
I like Strawberry Frosted.
Also a good one.
I feel like I used to really like
the Boston Cream, but now I think I like...
Or I do like the chocolate glaze too,
but that's got to be in a certain way.
You know what I really like,
but I never get it because I don't want to deal with it,
is the jelly donuts.
Like a powdered jelly donut.
Jelly donuts are...
Bobby really likes jelly donuts.
I love a good powdered jelly donut,
but I don't want to deal with the mess.
So I don't buy them often.
That could be scary.
I like the Munchkin version of those.
Oh, those are good, yeah.
There's a bakery not far from our house
that has really, really good donuts.
And that's only, honestly,
Jelly donut that I like.
Really?
At that bakery.
I don't know if it's a type of jelly
or if it's because it feels more fresh.
But, like, I'll eat a jelly donut, like,
in the Munchkins and be like, oh, whatever.
But it's not my go-to.
I need a pack of jelly, though.
A lot of jelly.
Yeah.
That's what makes it.
That's true.
It's true.
It is.
Have you had the, I think you pronounce it, the Pączki?
Usually, it's like a...
Right. On Fat Tuesday, it's popular.
The day before Lent, it's like the Polish, kind of like a donut,
but it's filled with a certain type of cream.
It reminds me of a Boston cream, but it's really good.
It's usually packed with cream inside.
They should make a Boston cream munchkin.
They should.
You're on to something.
They should.
Why not?
Why is that not okay?
I'm going to stop doing that.
Munchkin.
Bring back the turkey cheddar bacon.
Oh my gosh.
I'm still on that.
We have some things, a list of things
for Duncan to think about, I guess.
Yeah.
But yeah.
Get a donut.
Go get a donut.
Yeah.
It's also American Football Day in celebration, you know.
Love it.
Of football.
In football season now.
Yeah, yeah.
I guess speaking, it's not American football, but speaking of football.
Ooh, yeah.
Something big happened today in the sports world is, yeah, Ronaldo.
Yeah.
Hanging it up.
Retiring, yeah.
After a huge career.
Which we like knew, but I think everyone kind
of knew this World Cup was going to be his last.
So we were kind of waiting for the retirement.
Thank
I guess he waited till after Messi to officially retire.
So, yeah, he's hanging up that number seven jersey.
I'm not a big soccer fan, but I will say it's kind of sad that Messi
you
and Ronaldo will no longer play.
Yeah.
Two big iconic players that, even
so
if I didn't really watch soccer too much, like, whenever you did watch,
much.
like, the World Cup or something, you knew those names.
For sure.
I don't know.
Everyone knows them.
That was always, I did play soccer growing up, and I know you
were a big soccer player, too, but I just remember the boys at recess,
every single time, they would do a trick shot or a move.
They would either yell, Messi or Ronaldo, and, like,
those were, yeah, the icons that you grew up looking up to.
It's funny.
Now it's this whole new generation.
It is.
Yeah.
You know what's funny is, yeah,
I played soccer all growing up through high school.
And I loved playing soccer, but we would sometimes have to watch soccer
with the professional games or even our own games, watching them back.
And I hated doing that.
And I got more into soccer, like watching soccer,
I think, around, yeah, the World Cup and everything.
But I don't know.
It's not the same as, you know,
getting out there and doing it yourself versus different sports.
Like I would actually prefer to watch football.
Or, like, I like watching basketball.
Seems like there's more excitement.
Okay.
Like, I don't really like watching baseball.
Baseball gets a lot of criticism for being slow-paced.
It does.
Thank
Yeah.
He's hanging up the jersey.
But, honestly, tonight is Thursday night football.
That's right.
Speaking of American football.
Let me make sure I get it right.
All right.
Let's see.
The Pats face the
Packers on Sunday.
And it's actually Tom Brady's first time
you.
back to commentate
the game. Really? Oh, really? Yeah.
That'll be interesting.
It's Jaguars-Ravens tonight.
Jaguars will win that game.
Bobby will be excited. It's his team.
It's the most random.
It was Jags. No, the Jags are
doing really well. They're doing well this season.
I think the Jags can go very far.
I think they can, too.
Not to jinx it, but.
No, they got a good team.
We'll see.
There's, um, so there's this, this is kind of,
it's related to football, but there's
this kid that I follow on TikTok
and he's three years old and he's a drum prodigy.
His name is Remy Rocks.
He's a really good drummer.
He's three?
He's three.
I think he just turned four, but he's,
he's performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
He's been on America's Got Talent.
Like he's insane.
So his, um.
His mom recently started doing a thing with him
where he'll like make a beat
and then she'll put up all the football games
and he'll just pick a winner and predict it.
But he doesn't know like the team names
or he's whatever, whatever he calls them.
So like the Eagles, he says the bald Eagles
and the Ravens, he's like the purple bald Eagles.
And for the Patriots, he calls them the Americans.
So he's like singing to a beat
as he's predicting all the games.
And, um...
I didn't watch the one
last weekend, but a few times he's
predicted a lot correct, so
it's funny. It's funny.
That's cool. He's a really good drummer, too.
Does he have an Instagram?
Maybe. It would be
Remy Rocks.
Chris is in the dark.
I'll go to think, like, I'll
be scrolling and I'll see a TikTok that's
news-related or about work that I
think to send you guys.
Yeah, you have said stuff and I can't say it.
You just like read the caption and guess what the video is.
Well, don't have it.
Yeah, those are some of the bigger stories today.
A couple other things going on,
but we can take a quick break and come back in a couple minutes.
All right. Welcome back to Off the Desk on this Friday, Junior.
Thanks for being with us.
This is a headline that stuck out to me today,
and I think it's a good conversation starter
for sure. But the question is,
is there a movie that you wish you could see again for the first
time? Probably. I'd probably have to think about it.
Right. Okay. Everyone has a few, I'm sure.
But would you be hypnotized in order to watch it for the first time?
To have, like, a true, no recollection of the movie, Hypnosis.
Forget your favorite movie so you can watch it again.
I know.
Well.
It depends on the movie.
Okay, yes.
My answer is yes.
Well, regardless, in the Netherlands,
they are experimenting with Hypnosis.
To a movie theater of people so that they could watch a movie again
for the first time and truly have forgotten about it.
So it's like going in again with fresh eyes.
And it's funny because there
are definitely things like I feel like I think about it a lot.
with um childhood movies growing up you know
or like to be like oh to be a kid to see that again
for the first time or even with music to listen
to something again for the first time um you're
never gonna you know have that same feeling again
so this is i mean i think this is really
interesting they the event is called rewind it's scheduled
for november 9th and attendees
will undergo hypnosis sessions
Led by a hypnotherapist
who has more than three decades
of experience. And then after
that, they will watch one of four
fan-selected films.
Organizers say they hope the
process will help viewers experience
surprise plot twists and memorable scenes
as if they were watching again for the first time.
Wow. That's pretty cool.
I'd do it. Chris, what movie would you see?
I would do
the Polar Express.
That's a good one.
I like that though.
Cause that's that childhood nostalgia thing too.
Yeah.
That's good.
No,
that's always been one of my favorite movies.
Like I'm looking forward to watching it again.
I don't know.
So that movie always just somehow,
I don't know,
hits me in a soft spot.
Maybe it's cause it's just nostalgic or I don't know.
I don't know.
I love that movie.
Yeah.
Another one I would do.
That's a more of an adult one because of just how funny it is.
And I wish,
cause like,
You watch a funny movie and you already know
the joke's coming up, so you wish you could laugh as hard as you could
or you'll be Step Brothers.
Oh, that's good, too.
Completely forget what's happening.
That's a movie I've already seen a lot of.
I know what I first saw and
just laughing so hard.
That's a good one, too.
They can get a really funny movie to watch.
Maybe I would do that with Bridesmaids
or Mean Girls.
Pitch Perfect is another good one.
To watch Mean Girls again for the first time?
Yeah.
That was a good one.
Yeah, I've even seen that, and it's pretty good.
It's funny.
High School Musical 3?
I was trying to think of a movie that I've seen
that I've really loved that had kind
of a surprise ending, something that you can experience,
like trying to figure it out as
you go along.
But I can't think of one on the spot right now.
Well, they did give the list of four.
So they did.
Yeah.
So the options were The Matrix.
Okay, seven.
And then this one was mine, La La Land.
Oh, La La Land.
I've never actually seen La La Land.
Oh my God, I'm jealous.
See, that's one where I'm like, I wish to experience it.
Yeah, and the last one, Interstellar.
Interstellar's a good example of that.
Right?
Interstellar's a great one.
Because the whole time you're like, what is going on?
That movie's so good.
I could cry thinking of that thing right now.
That movie's so good.
Seven is a good one, too, though.
I've never seen that.
That's with Brad Pitt, right?
I think so.
Yeah, because it's the same thing.
You're trying to the whole time figure out,
like, you're solving the mystery with them.
Yeah.
It's kind of a disturbing movie, too, though.
Okay.
Interesting.
You know, I've tried to tell Maddie that she has to watch
Interstellar. She's never seen it.
And she's like, I don't think I like it. And I'm like,
you don't understand. I wasn't sure if I'd like
it either. So tell her I said that.
Because I'm not a huge sci-fi person.
She's not a sci-fi person.
It's just such a good movie.
I watched it on a flight. It's a good movie
for, I mean, as long as you're locked
in, obviously. But it was a good movie
for a flight because I had no choice but
to lock in. And it was
really, really good.
So good, so good.
I want to re-watch it.
Do you guys have a TV show you would wish to forget?
Oh, that's a whole other question.
That is.
I mean, Friends.
Mine would be Friends.
Friends for the first time.
Friends, that's a good one.
Yes.
Mine would either be Stranger Things or Breaking Bad.
Okay.
I've never watched either of those in their entirety.
Stranger Things is good.
Stranger Things, I would love to watch.
Friends to watch again for the first time,
especially because I, I mean, you knew some spoilers, obviously.
I watched Friends all the way through during COVID.
So that was 2020.
I was, I don't know, 18, 19.
But I still like, you know, you know Ross and Rachel.
Yes.
You know Chandler and Monica.
And I didn't know how it was going to happen, but.
Yeah, I see videos of people watching it
for the first time and reacting.
Yeah, so true.
Friends is one of those shows that you can literally watch
over and over and over and it'll never get old.
Some people are so divided about Friends,
like, people hate it.
Really?
They don't think it's funny.
I think it's so funny and it's such a good, like,
put on background show.
It's such a feel-good show.
Feel-good show.
Yeah. People say the characters are unlikable,
but I mean, it makes them real. I don't know.
I did. I will say when I
was a kid watching Friends, I did not like Ross.
He's a little whiny.
I thought he was so annoying.
But then as I got older, now I think he's really funny.
But I can see where, yeah, he is a little whiny.
Yeah.
I don't know.
That's a good question.
That was a good one.
Yeah.
I thought that was fun.
I thought that was fun.
What about the like hypnosis portion of it?
I don't know if I really buy into being hypnotized.
So that's, yeah, me either.
And I will say personal experience.
I was, I was, I tried to hypnotize.
Yeah, it was my sorority did.
We had someone come to do it in college.
And I think they kept saying what it's like that,
ultra relaxed state you need to basically clear your mind
and like not think about your limbs
it's very bizarre I don't think I'd be able
to but it's like it's an it's an enhanced meditation or
something so you really just have to be so calm yeah
and I just couldn't turn off my brain we
also did it during finals
or like right before finals yeah my brain was not gonna be
I didn't even want to be at the meeting anyway.
I had stuff to do.
Yeah, so it was tough, but I wanted to see if I could do it.
And we did do one where, but this might just, I don't know.
This was the only one I kind of bought into.
It was you put your arms out and then close your eyes,
and he said, like, your left hand, they were stacking books on it.
And then your right hand, you're supposed to think
of there's a balloon tied to the tip of your finger.
And when I opened my eyes, yeah,
my hands were like this in accordance of the books and the balloon.
But another one, people were saying that he had his picture,
an arrow and a color. And when you threw the arrow,
you're supposed to see a line of that color.
And I was like, there's no way you guys are seeing this. I did not.
I did not. So I got kicked out of the chair at some point.
But, I mean...
It was definitely, I guess, relaxing in a way,
but I know there are people who do have
experiences where it worked on them.
Yeah.
Like we, I remember in high school we had,
um, yeah, I guess a hypnotherapist come to
our school and they just randomly picked people from the crowds
and some people that I was
surprised people that were a little bit more reserved
that went up on stage and some of
them, the things that they were doing,
like having them do a certain dance in front of
Okay, yeah.
Or, yeah, like.
It was it started with things like that, like, oh, your left hand
is getting heavier than your right, like that kind of stuff.
Some then it got kind of far fetched.
And we asked some of the people like one of my friends was up there.
I was like, is that really working?
Yeah, they were like in the beginning, maybe a little.
And then I just like went along with it type thing.
But they were a very outgoing performer.
But the person who was really, really
shy and reserved was doing these things too
and said that they didn't really have a memory of
doing it, that's so bizarre which I thought was I
was like I don't know if I believe that but
who knows yeah I don't know I've never had
the experience of trying to do it so
it's interesting it's interesting
so yeah all right question we can take another break here
and find something to chat yeah chat about
for the last few minutes yeah we got something
All right. Back here on this Thursday morning. We're off the desk.
We were talking in the break. There was another pretty local story
that we were talking about in previous episodes, but it's official.
There is now a new voice for Logan Airport.
Yeah, that's right. They narrowed it down to four finalists
and then finally announced the winner.
And.
And the winner was, his name is Christopher DeNisi.
So if you listen to the recordings and were able to catch this one,
then you've listened to the voice of Logan Airport.
Um, he.
So they revealed it on Kiss 108.
He said he was surprised and excited.
He's from East Arlington.
Hey, that's where Nick Antonakis is from.
Oh, really?
Yeah, and he says it like with the accent.
I don't even want to say it like Arlington.
He says it.
So, yeah, it was fun.
They're officially going to introduce him.
Today at a press conference at 11 a.m.
And his voice will now be used in airport announcements
heard by millions of travelers each year.
So this was a competition that people submitted voice recordings for.
Yeah.
Does he get paid for this?
I don't know.
That's a good question.
Your voice is constantly going to be used.
Right.
I don't know, but you also did.
You also did.
You know, volunteer and be part of this competition.
I wonder how that all works.
I don't know.
I mean, yeah, it's kind of awesome just to know that.
To have your voice in order, yeah.
Just to know that it's doing that.
Or maybe, I don't know, maybe they'll be like, oh, you get a free trip.
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
That's kind of incentive.
Yeah, so there were over 6,000 applications, more than 35,000 votes.
That's crazy.
That's a lot of votes.
He lives in Burlington now
and described himself as a homegrown Boston guy
born just outside the city in East Arlington.
Thank you.
Cool.
Yeah, it's cool.
I mean, if you listen to his submission, it was good.
It was good.
It definitely gives the – it was wicked good.
It gives the Boston welcome, you know?
That's cool.
Yeah.
I'm trying to think of other airports that I've been to.
And if I've really paid attention to the voice, I've never I've
never even thought about it until until I saw this competition.
And I like that it's, you know, unique and authentic in the way
that they pick someone because those announcements are kind of boring.
It's like the Charlie Brown. Obviously, it's important,
but you hear it over and over so many times and zone out a little bit.
But this will grab my attention. Yeah.
If you hear someone, you know, with that authentic.
Yeah, with like the inflection.
And I'm just picturing someone like Matt Damon or Ben Affleck,
you know, they joke that they unofficially submitted.
Oh, that's all of them. You know,
there were some other submissions from well-known Boston, Boston faces.
But but yeah, it's a good way to keep people,
I think, in the airport engaged. And yeah, yeah.
Boston. Yeah. I wonder if other airports across
the country will follow suit. Right.
Try to do something similar. Yeah, it'd be fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, because, you know, we're going
to have another record-breaking holiday travel season.
Oh, you know it.
We'll see.
But of course.
Record-breaking travel every...
Every time.
Every year.
But it's people more and more.
They're just traveling.
Well, the last holiday period, though, it wasn't because of gas prices.
That is true, yeah.
There was going to be a scale back.
But, yeah, who knows?
Thanksgiving is always a big one, so.
Right.
Yeah.
In other Massachusetts news, we had this in our morning newscast
this morning, and this is something that we've been talking about
a little bit here and there with certain delivery services using drones
to make their deliveries, Grubhub, DoorDash.
I think Little Caesars was one of them.
There was pizza flying through the sky, and a lot of them started
in Texas, I think I remember, but Massachusetts was going to experiment
with Amazon deliveries out of their facility in Westboro.
Um, but that is no longer going to be going through.
I guess people, people were upset about it.
They didn't want it.
You know, they want to know more about it
and safety risks and surveillance concerns.
So, uh, we will not be seeing any Amazon
drones flying around the skies of central.
I don't like the idea of any of it.
I don't either.
Yeah.
I also don't know if I'd want my food flying through the sky.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, imagine like, I don't know, in the spring.
Imagine, I don't know,
you got a pizza box flying through the sky
in the middle of April, and you open it, and oh,
there's pollen all over my pizza.
Yeah, that's the point.
Or if it picks up steam, and so many people
are ordering and getting deliveries
that way, that can cause
some air congestion
with the drones, and it's like,
I don't know, it just opens a whole scene.
What's going to stop someone being like, oh, there's a pizza
flying in the sky and trying to take the thing down
and take your pizza? Right, right. It's just like,
what point do we stop
Like trying to further enhance convenience.
It's like it's gotten so out of hand.
It's getting out of hand.
We don't need it.
Yeah.
Especially all the conversation around AI and everything, too.
It's just like, sure, there are really great.
aspects of it, but then there's so many
things about it that are bad
and that you don't need. We're doing fine just how we are.
And I like the... It also takes
jobs away from people. Like a delivery
driver, that's someone's job.
Yeah, I know.
It's so crazy. It makes you wonder, like, would you
be able to select delivery option
by drone? So maybe it's not
the default. You could still have a
mail carrier. It would be an option.
But even still, I mean, I don't know.
It was for packages, I think, five pounds and under.
So for little ones.
But again, it's not happening right now in Massachusetts.
So it's, and.
I'm not going to tip a robot delivering food to my house.
Thanks, drone.
Thanks, drone.
It's crazy.
All right.
That's all we got for this Thursday.
Make sure to join us back here tomorrow for our Friday edition.
Yay.
We'll see you then.
Bye.
