Red Wings make MULTIPLE moves... SHOCKING Red Wings Updates | Red Wings News
Nov 6, 2026
The Red Wings' best young defenseman is finally back on the ice,
just not in Detroit.
He is in Nashville skating with a former emergency backup goaltender.
And on the same day we find out Simon Edvinson
is skating in Nashville, we find out that
Detroit had to call up a couple players
from the Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency
conditions.
Because they're dealing with some injuries.
And in this video, we're going to get into multiple new updates,
including those roster moves, what is happening with Simon Edvinson,
and multiple updates on the team
and roster itself heading into another crucial game.
Very quickly, before we get into that,
if you guys are enjoying the daily content on the Red Wings
and this new style of video, make sure to hit that subscribe button.
We just passed 6,000 subscribers and thank you
so much for the support here on the channel
and continuing to comment and watch the videos every single day.
And we are now on the road to our goal of 10
thousand subscribers but let's get right into the updates.
We'll get into Simon Evanson a little
bit later but let's get into the goaltending position
and what's happening with the team
right now. So John Gibson got pulled at a last game
and he missed it due to injury
and now he is out.
He faced 13 shots and stopped 11 and he didn't come out.
For the second period,
Daniil Tarasov played the last 37 minutes of that game.
Todd McClellan revealed this morning
that John Gibson has a lower body injury
and that he is still being evaluated
and there's no timeline for his return.
So the Red Wings have recalled Michael Pastev
from the Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions
and put Albert Johansson on the IR at the same time.
And hardcore Red Wings fans know exactly who that is.
But if his name does sound familiar
and you're more of a casual fan, it should sound familiar.
This is the second time in two weeks that he's
been called up on an emergency basis.
Back on October 22nd, Daniil Tarasov tweaked something in practice.
Gibson left that game that night as well.
That left the door open for Pastev to make
his NHL debut against the Vancouver Canucks.
He stopped 7 of 8 shots, and then when Tarasov got healthy,
he was sent back down to the Grand Rapids Griffins on October 29th.
Now, this doesn't really hurt the Red Wings in any way.
Gibson hasn't really been good this year.
Gibson's save percentage this season is an 8.60 in 11 games.
The league average is much lower this season at an 8.90.
Tarasov, the guy that they signed to be the backup
on a one-year $2 million deal, is at a 927 in six appearances,
and that's fourth in the entire NHL.
And you can see multiple outlets talking about it, where it's true,
you never want to see a guy get hurt and go down due to injury, but...
Tarasov has been dialed.
He has looked really good and, you know,
Posty has been the best goaltender outside of the NHL.
And the second part really isn't that crazy.
Pastev right now is 4-0 in the Grand Rapids Griffins this season
with a 9.54 save percentage.
And he's just building off what he did last season.
He went 17-6-0 with four shutouts in those 17 wins
and shared the award for the AHL's best
goalie tandem with Sebastian Kolsa.
And he's already won a game with the Red Wings as well.
His first NHL start, which was not his NHL debut,
was the shootout win in Edmonton, where he stopped all three shooters.
So I'm not too worried about what's happening between the pipes.
It's probably fine.
Tarasov is going to start tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The bigger problem with this team.
is somewhere else.
Now, Johansson's not the only guy dealing with an injury right now.
Marco Casper and Mason Appleton have
been on the IR since the first week of October.
And that is two forwards
and one defenseman out all at once on a team that is pretty even
right now at 7-6-3.
And they could use some more bodies back.
Of course, they're missing Simon Edvinson and Dylan Larkin.
If you look at the standings,
17 points after 16 games, they're tied with Buffalo.
And that's last in the Atlantic right now.
There's only a six point difference between the top
and the bottom of the Atlantic.
It's a very tight division.
It's going to be a tight division
and one good week could fix a lot and put you in a
really good spot here.
But November has 12 games on the schedule
and that is not a month you want to play shorthanded.
But today we got some good news on the injury front.
Todd McLellan says that he expects Kasper
and Appleton to play at some point on this
upcoming road trip.
And that road trip I just mentioned, it is four games long.
They're headed to Colorado on Saturday, then St. Louis,
then they're in Florida, and then in Tampa.
Now, Albert might be a little bit of a different story.
Todd McLellan said that he might actually
be out a little while longer.
So here's what the lines look like heading
into tonight's game against Vegas.
And it's a big one.
DeBrincat, Finney, and Arvidsson have been fantastic.
They stay together.
MBN has been amazing.
He's on the second line with Copp and Raymond.
You have Rasmussen with Compher and Danielson on the third.
And then Mazur and Dries and Kolasar is your fourth line.
Nate Danielson has been out
for the last two games as a healthy scratch.
He comes back into the lineup, and he replaces John Leonard.
And there was actually another group skating this morning,
and that was Appleton, Kasper, and Leonard.
The scratches tonight, and that is a line of scratches
that look to be returning fairly soon.
On the power play, Emmett Finney is the bumper on the first unit
with Arvidsson up front, DeBrincat, and Raymond on the flanks,
and of course, Mo Söderström at the point.
The second unit is pretty interesting.
Rasmussen at the net, Compher in the bumper spot.
and Copp on the flanks and Justin Falk on the point
so two of the 10 power play spots now belong
to Finney and MBN and that tells you exactly how
much Todd McLellan already trusts those young guys
to be put in those spots and that's a real story heading
into this season and why they've been able
to find success there's no more just jerseys
or bodies that Todd McLellan called it last year
These young guys aren't just filling in spots anymore.
They are carrying the weight.
And Todd McLellan put it best a couple weeks ago.
He was talking about the young group and he said,
considering all the crap we've gone through,
it's been pretty resilient.
Let's start with Finney.
Seven goals already this season.
Tied with DeBrincat for second most on the team.
And he's on the top line and the top power play unit.
He's been playing center.
His 11 points put him right
at the top behind DeBrincat and Raymond at 16
and Arvinsson at 15 and right ahead of Mo Sider.
And then there's MBN.
talking about him a lot on the channel.
10 points and he scored the game winner in Florida on Sunday
and he's looked absolutely electric.
He is in the 95th percentile in takeaways and the way he
describes his defending tells you exactly why.
He said, quote, sometimes it's easier to just crash
into whoever it is so you know where he is versus just staying away
and letting him go through. So
this is a guy that doesn't like to just look and track.
He's trying to lay the body as much as he can
and hit everything that moves.
That's also a kid, despite a slow start to his NHL career,
plays like he's already been in the league for 10 years.
He's playing with so much poise and confidence.
And Nate Danielson checks back into the lineup tonight
on the third line after two games in the press box
with Kasper and Appleton coming back soon.
Every one of these kids.
is playing for a spot lower in that lineup.
So the forwards are slowly figuring it out.
The goalies are pretty good.
John Gibson could be a little bit better,
but we'll get an update on him at some point this week.
And that brings us to the one young guy
that is not there at all
and a piece that all Red Wings fans want to return.
Simon Arvinsson is 23.
He was a sixth overall pick in 2021
and he's been a restricted free agent since July 1st.
Last season, he played in 72 games
and he put up 25 points.
9 goals and 16 assists.
And those 9 goals came on about 4.8 expected goals.
And here is how we got here.
So he came to camp.
His talks stalled and then he went back home to Sweden to skate
because he was pretty annoyed
with how the contract stalemate was going.
Then on October 4th, Elliot Friedman reported
that he'd prefer to be traded and Pierre LeBrun
later said that there has been no formal request,
but he's pretty fed up with this situation.
Now, Sean Horkoff, the interim general manager
of your Detroit Red Wings, shot that down
and he said that he has no interest in trading Simon Arvinsson at all.
But by October 27th, Friedman said that talks
were really picking up on the trade market
is asking a fairly high price for the young defenseman.
Changpeng out of San Jose reported
that the Sharks had made a serious offer recently and
that Detroit wants a young center back in return for Simon Edmondson.
Bob Duff even reported that Carolina thought about
an offer sheet in the summer for Simon
Edmondson, and that's how many teams are circling on this player
because he is a hot commodity.
On October 30th, Friedman reported
a long list of teams that have taken a long
Look at Simon Edmondson on the trade market.
That includes the Boston Bruins,
the St. Louis Blues, and the Nashville Predators.
Speaking of Nashville,
he is now back in North America skating in Nashville.
And that isn't even the first city that he's
been skating in that isn't Detroit.
On October 22nd, there were reports that he was skating in Boston.
So now he's skating in Nashville, trying to stay in shape.
We're so close to this December 1st deadline,
and he remains unsigned and reportedly wants
to be traded out of Detroit.
Now, obviously, this could mean nothing.
Maybe there's just cheaper ice in Nashville,
and that's why he's there skating there.
And of course, he's working with an e-bug that he knows, too.
So it's just a cheap way to maybe stay sharp, be ready,
because if he does return before the December 1st deadline
and doesn't lose the season, which I imagine.
He won't.
He will return, I should say.
You know, he wants to stay in shape.
But like I mentioned, there's a deadline on all of this.
If he isn't signed by the afternoon on December 1st,
he can't play in the NHL this season
at all.
And that is just 26 days away.
And here is why the Red Wings specifically should care about that.
Last season, the Wings went 38-26-8 with him in the lineup,
and without him, they were 3-5-2.
He is a 23-year-old defenseman that can play 22 minutes a night.
He blocked 2.1 shots a game,
and that is in the 98th percentile in the league.
And here's a fun little tidbit as well.
The Wings' last game of November before that December 1st deadline
is three days before the deadline, and...
It is Nashville that is in town, which is pretty funny.
So to wrap this all up with a bow,
I'm not too worried about John Gibson being out due to injury.
Daniil Tarasov has been playing great this season.
He's backed up by a great young goaltender as well,
which means on the goaltending front,
the Red Wings do not need to panic
and they can actually take a look at trading John Gibson
at some point this year.
Chang Pen is reporting that the Red Wings
are looking for a young center.
There's been a lot of rumors about Michael Misa.
I'm not sure the Sharks want to part with him.
But that is something that the Red Wings
are at least considering right now.
I don't even know if the worst outcome is Simon Edvinson being traded.
The worst outcome might be just not signing him, not trading him,
and you'll lose the season
and you still have to figure this out after that.
And he's not going to play anywhere this year.
But ultimately, if you ask most Red Wings fans,
they want him to be signed.
And don't let December 1st come and go either.
Come on, make a decision.
Either trade him.
Or get a deal done here in short order.
And maybe he doesn't want to get a deal done.
That's fine.
But you need to get something for him
in that case before the December 1st deadline.
But I want to hear from you guys down there in the comments.
Would you sign Edmondson or trade him?
Drop an S or a T in the comments.
Let me know what you would rather do.
I think I know what you guys are going to say.
But it might be different than what's actually going to happen.
Tarasov gets the start tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights.
It's a big game.
But guys, my name is Darius Dominguez.
This is Red Wings Digest.
And I'll see you in the next video.
