Hey guys, I know the weather is bad right now.
The video I have for you was actually shot
about a week ago. A customer called
and complained that her system was making a loud noise
and she this is one of those calls where it's like I got
to have an estimate first.
So come with me. I do a thorough inspection
and give an estimate to fix everything that I found.
Here
we
go.
All right, what's been going on?
Hey, now how you doing?
All right, how you doing?
All right, all right.
Okay, listen, listen to my, my vent.
Yes, ma'am.
My unit's not, my unit, ooh, my unit, I'm sorry.
My brother, I'm sorry, Mr. Carter, that's my brother.
You okay?
Um, my unit is not on.
Oh, wait, let me see that thermostat.
That, that vent's closed off.
Did you want it closed off?
Yes, I closed off because the air was coming, air comes out of it.
That's what I'm saying, air is coming out of it.
You see that?
okay all right mode
is off fan is was on auto
seemed like a very
basic thermostat
that does not have gas like
a gas furnace yes i thought you had a gas furnace
so this house used
to have gas a lot
of people doing
that nowadays
i'll get it don't worry about it that may be just
the blower motor let's check one of these
other ones here make sure nothing else
is on all right that sounds like the blower motor
Okay, it looks like we have a X13 motor.
I'm gonna unplug the low voltage
and leave the high
voltage hooked up.
All right, that right there is my low voltage.
So this should
shut off if it's
doing right.
It is not shutting off.
Obviously the module's bad.
Let's kill the power and look at anything else.
Well, that clearly wasn't it.
You gotta be kidding.
Okay, I need to,
I just want to
kill the power,
that's all.
Let's see if we can see anything in here.
It's just three years old in March.
Yes, sir.
Because the warranty just went out on it.
Oh, so the warranty just went out, what, three years ago?
No.
This March made three years I had it.
But there's a thing inside.
I told that man to write that date on it.
All right.
This is from 2014.
This is 12 years old.
Well, I didn't know that.
It is out of warranty, though.
Like you said, it's...
Probably two years out of warranty
so I'm going to quote you a new blower motor but before I do
I'm going to try to check and see
if there's anything else going on. Did it heat and cool okay?
Okay.
It was it well it was cooling it was cooling this year
because I just turned it off.
And the noise started.
The noise was starting with it, you know, before I turned it off.
And that's why I said, I'm going to turn this, you know,
weather controller, I say that, okay, for both of them, okay.
And that's when the noise started, just before I turned it off.
But it's been cooling, and it heated last year.
I don't know about this year, but it heated last year, I know.
Okay, I'm just going to check some of the things that I can.
Mm-hmm.
I might actually come in, turn it on,
and see if it's going to run in heat, okay?
Okay.
But I do think you need a new blower motor at the very least.
And that's going to run me some, right?
Yes, ma'am. Those motors are not cheap.
Well, like I'm saying, I'm going to let you fix it, but I just don't...
You want an estimate first?
Yes, sir, right now, because I went...
And then I got another doctor's appointment
this coming month, so I just don't...
I completely understand. I'm going through
the same thing myself right now.
Okay.
So I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
I'm going to diagnose and give you an estimate,
and today we're just going to do the diagnostic, okay?
Yes, sir.
All right.
I think one of the first things I need
to do is make sure we don't have power.
Well, that power there, it turned the whole thing off in my house too.
That right there?
No, ma'am. That's just for this. Just for this right here.
I know he's going to turn the power off
because he's going to get on things like that.
And that's
supposed
to be a 45.5.
Damn, this tomato is bare-ass.
I'll try to put it where y'all can see it.
You got some pretty white hair.
Well, thank you.
It has been turning white rapidly recently.
It is nice. It is nice.
Boy, they're three points.
You might not like it, but it is nice.
Well, thank you. That's sweet of you to say so. Thank you.
It is nice.
Yeah, I kind of wish it would just go ahead
and turn white all over.
My hair used to be brown
and now what is not brown looks like it's black.
Right. It's like it's darker. Yeah.
Yeah, I see.
So minus six percent.
Okay this capacitor
is a plus or minus six percent.
So what I'm
going to do I'm talking about the 45.
We're going to multiply that by 0.94.
that subtracts the six percent range
and it will tell me the bottom the lower range of
that capacitor and it's 47.8
that can't be right 45 times
maybe i hit the wrong thing
0.94 okay 42.3 there we go let's try this again
so it's within range that's reading 43.8
i do want to show you what's
in here that i can see that
contactor is burnt to a crisp
So at the very least, I'm going to include one of those.
Let's see if we can get it to crank up and actually turn on the heat.
As y'all can see, the blower came on and the low voltage
is still not even hooked up to the blower motor.
If
we
can
turn
on
the
heat.
I know you got it set low.
I'm going to turn it up for a brief while
so that everything will come on, okay?
Oh.
When that stops flashing, it should come on.
I want
y'all
to
hear
this
contactor.
Sounds rough.
Ma'am?
Why'd
it cut
off?
We are
running
in heat.
What's up, Steve?
They told me not to plug it.
Cover what? The top?
I can't. I don't have to cover it,
especially when the leaves are so fine.
Yes, ma'am.
Okay, I can tell
by touching that
the condenser
right now
is on the inside,
and it is hot.
My suction is coming back cold.
Let me
check
those
heat
strips.
What's
that
contactor
you
hear?
Jumping from
red to
white
to
bring
on
those
heat
strips?
It's on the heat strip I found it
Blown
fusible
leak.
Two of them. I'm going to show you.
Okay, these are a little bit complicated.
and I'm gonna try to explain this, it's two little rectangle blocks
with two wires going to them, one of them is
a fusible link and the other one is actually
the heat strip, this little limit over here just
automatically resets
so you look for where you're losing 240
volts, I'm gonna test across this and as you
can see that is showing 240 volts but i've got
zero amps, so that little thing i just tested
That is a worn fusible link.
It got too hot and it burnt on both of those. So she needs a fusible
link, contactor, and a blower motor.
The heat pump works. Heat strips do not.
I do hope you enjoyed
the video. If you did, how about like and subscribe.
Check out the store in the corner. A lot of the
stuff I use is in that store.
And there's some links in the description that actually
mean something to me. I use Jabra as my CRM. I really like it.
And there's a link for that if you're interested.
If you're a business owner or a small business owner, it does help,
especially a service-based business like ours.
And there's a link for ACIQ to be a dealer
and possibly buy the equipment.
I enjoy their equipment.
It's one of my favorites.
Check them out.
Catch you on the next one.
