It's the perfect time for a little, you know, seafood lunch and to go picking for some vintage
and antiques. So my mom is looking for some table accessories since that mural turned out really,
really neat in her kitchen. If you haven't seen that episode, be sure and click the link because
that was a really fun DIY for us to do. But she's looking for some little things to just kind of
tie it all together. And I'm looking for an old light fixture for the kitchen. When we moved in,
I put this big chandelier like orb like fixture in there that I kind of DIY'd myself. But you know,
time's gone by and it's really not my thing anymore and I'm ready to change it out for
something that's a little more period appropriate. So I am hoping to find the perfect fixture today.
This looks like a booth I need to dig around in. There's doilies and lace and fancy things. These
are cute. Oh, it's like a little nap, eight embroidered napkins. Look at that. A little rose.
This is a, oh, this is a pillowcase. Look. That's a pillowcase? Yeah. Look. Oh,
for one of those big body pillows. For king size. Or one of those body pillows that you get.
That's pretty. That's pretty. That's why I like looking for estate sales and stuff because it's,
it's really a lost art. That's why I like getting pillowcases that have all the embroidery on them.
I love those. Yeah. Those are cute. Now I got probably about 20 pillowcases. You do? Yeah.
Kind of went overboard. I quit liking those. You quit liking them, but you still do? I still do,
but I don't buy them no more. Whoa. Whoa. Yeah. Did you see those too? Yes. Touch them. What
do they mean? Yeah. What are those made of? It's like a, like a pottery or what is that?
They're like wood acrylic. Well, maybe someone painted it. 1895. Those are cool. Pretty color.
Yeah. All I have to, I need some summer jama bottoms. All I have to wear is like camisole top.
I need something light and airy for summertime. I feel like you could wear those out though. Like
you could wear them in public. I wouldn't go in public. I don't dress like this in public. If
you were a silk cami with some jewelry with it, you totally could. Yeah, but I'm not fancy. I
I'm getting these. How much are they? $10. Silk pajamas. Those are pretty. I like the print.
Yeah. I got flowers down my leg. I got a pink cami at home too. Oh, you already do? Yep.
All right. And then I got a brown one too. And I got a brown one. Or green. I got all the colors
of camis. Mom and I both get our camisoles at Walmart. At Walmart. Cause honey, you got $2.
$2. And we just buy them every time we go and always get three sizes big because they shrink
three sizes. I always get like three X's or something. Yes, I do. Cause I like them longer.
I don't like them short. I always get the three X. Oh, what is that called? I did that in summer
camp. I don't remember. These aren't pretty. I, um, I love my dining room table because I
refinished it. Like I spent days, like a month refinishing it. Um, but I would totally trade
it for this. Look at those chunky legs. Oh man, those are cool. You wouldn't even have to do
anything to that. This, this is plastic though. Oh, it is? It's not real leather? It looks like
real leather. No, it's vinyl. Someone redid that. But, oh man, look at that. I love that. Like
these are great. Is that big old barley twist or what's that called? Yeah, this is like a
chunky barley twist. I like the bottom. Yeah, it's really super neat. We'd have to rent a U-Haul.
Table with six chairs, $800. Wow, and you can't even get plastic set for that. Oh man. But see,
me, I would want to, I'd want to get the chairs reupholstered and then you're like, cha-ching,
you know, on price. Yeah, I'd want to get chairs, probably over a hundred bucks. Yeah. Oh yeah,
for sure. That one leather I had to get for that couch would cost us like a thousand just for
the chair. For the hide, yeah. Yeah, but it sure is pretty. I love these. They're so meaty,
like little chunkers. Yeah, someday I'll find one that's ready to go.
Do you want me to get it? I just want to see how much it is.
What's it say? $4 or $9. Oh, now she got excited. $4 or $9, that's my present. $4,
fine. $4, fine. Do you want two so they match? No, I just need one in my kitchen table with
campus grass out. You might want one in the living room if they're only four bucks
on your coffee table. No, I got those other pieces. All right, I got two things in this. Yeah,
this is the best. Yeah, sure. Sherman will lick you to death. Yeah, he would. He won't bite you
to death, he'll lick you to death. You should take that picture of the scary dog off and put
Sherman's little fat face on there. The blue eye looking at you. Beware. There's another antique
store and then a flea market thing, she said. Yeah, she told us about a flea market. Yeah,
make sure you register me going to that one. Mom wants to make sure no one can hear.
I had my mic on going to the bathroom. Good thing I didn't rip one. Are you excited about your
$4 vase? And my $10 jammies. I know, they're so cute. Oh, I better let you in. So, we're going
to go to a flea market thing that she told us was right down the road. It's like a vendor mall,
and then there's another antique mall thing right next door. Yeah. But we have to be hands-free,
so we're putting our stuff in the car first. That's right. This ain't our first rodeo.
What are you, a rookie? This is super cute. Is this paper or metal? Oh, no, it's cut paper.
Someone put like, yeah, like polyurethane or something, like kind of hard. Doesn't it look
like something someone would make in the 50s or 60s, like that coloring? Mom, this reminds me of
when I was little and we'd go to the flea markets, like the movies, those pictures that are 3D
t-shirts. Doesn't it? I remember the smell of like greasy tools and cigarettes, like that'd
be the flea market. Mom and I were just talking in the car on the way down here how I really wanted
to find some antique light fixtures because we're doing some remodeling at home. And I was describing
like, I wanted this pendant thing and a drop. And we weren't filming in this antique shop,
my mom looked down low and in the bottom of this cabinet, there's this really neat light
fixture. And look at the arm. She said this is from the early 1900s. So this is the actual
fixture part of it. And then I'll have to show you when I get home how it's all set up. But
it's a three light fixture. And she's already say it's from the early 1900s. I can't remember. I'm
so excited right now. But I just love the long winky arms. It's like kind of whimsical. So this
these things like screw on there by tension. And then it'll have this long, this globe with
the big long dangly arms. Won't that be neat? Yeah, this costs less than a Home Depot light
fixture too. So and I also found a little Santos crown. I was like getting ready to check out with
my light fixture. And I looked up in her little window and found a Santos crown. Yeah, it's an
oldie. So now we're just gonna wait. We only have like 10 minutes, I think until the big antique
mall opens. We'll go find more things. That's some color. So I put it on there. It's gonna
wear turquoise. And this one's kind of exciting. I'm wearing kind of dark colors. So a lot of
people didn't know your name, Sheila. They're like, what's your mom's name? I, I used in the
Selena probably a cringe that my nice that iron basket thing that I didn't know what it was.
I poked that on my table, and I put a vase on the inside of it. And then I went out and cut
a whole bunch of bamboo off of my bamboo tree and off of my cypress tree and made my own
reed basket thing on my table. That's way better than firewood. Better than firewood.
Well, I kind of make mine look more rustic. So I got a beautiful iron or brass filigree
beautiful basket with a bunch of willow in it. Good, but I do think you need something tall,
you could find a big about two feet, two feet, something with some I was thinking of like
pampas grass, little pampas grasses in there or something. Yeah, something to give me some kind
of fluffy by the mural that look pretty. I think the pampas grass. I wonder if you could find a
fake one that doesn't show that. Well, if you do get pampas grass, always hairspray it. I found
that hang it upside down and hairspray it from the underside. And that'll make all of the flower
the plume part stick to the plant and won't shed all of it. That was a trick I learned. That was a
help from Heloise trick. Who's Heloise? Boy, I aged myself. She was a lady in the old days that
was always on the newspaper. And she always like Ann Landers. Remember who Ann Landers is?
I think grandma. Did she have a TV show? No, she told you how to live your life. Who was the lady
that grandma used to like to watch on TV? It was Murder She Wrote. What was her name? Lansbury.
But I know the permanent marker is good on glass. The hairsprays? No, just rubbing alcohol.
Just rubbing alcohol. That gets permanent marker off of glass or floors if you have it on there
or walls even. If your kid is a dummy that writes on the ceilings sometimes. Used to draw on the
walls. You know what I was thinking about when I did when I was little? I feel bad for now. Stick
it and throw raisins under the bed. She grew up and I moved her bed. All these raisins under the
bed. You know I put wallpaper in the new bathroom? Yeah. So it's so much work. And then I realized
when I was little, remember you had all that butterfly wallpaper? Yeah. And I put stickers
next to the bed and you were so mad. And now I realize how much work it is to put wallpaper up
and how mad you must have been. And then she stickered the wall. Love you. Stickered and drew
pictures on it. I was always artistic. This should be about ready to open. Can't tell them
all my dirty secrets. That's right. Raisins under the bed was the worst. It looked like some rabbit
went under there and pooped. Rabbit poop? This booth is so pretty. Look at that big cross.
Oh look at those like lines on there. Is that a buttercup?
It says blanken-y dish. Oh there's the bottom. Oh yeah that's pretty. What's in here? Oh we have
YSL coach. I like this bracelet. Yeah. I like how they go around. Is that Jade on there?
I think it's just costume. Oh look at these ones. Look at that cuff. That's pretty. 325.
Wow. Oh look at that bracelet right there mom. See that ornate one? Yes. I can't see how much
that is though. Oh look at that pretty vase. What? Oh I like those colors. They have nice
things in this booth mom. Yeah. I wonder where they find all this neat stuff. Just like we do,
go to estate sales and stuff. They go like on the coast once huh? But we don't ever get to come
over here very often. I feel like I'm at home in this booth. I see lots of pretty things.
Look at this fringy. That's pretty. Yeah. That's pretty nice colors. Yeah nice and soft.
This is an interesting piece. It looks like a like a wall pocket
vase. That's pretty. It's kind of interesting that it has the cat and then a lion at the top.
Looks to be handmade. What's it say here? Vintage hanging vase with cat and lion.
Makes sense. This little set down here caught my eye. Look at the little flowers.
Kind of has like a filigree type look to it. And I love the little daisies because there's like
pastel pinks and purples and blues. It'd be really cute for spring. And the fact that there's the
bracelet necklace and earrings is really awesome. So I'm gonna have her open up this case and
take a look at it. There's a bunch of awesome belts on here. I always say there's like no need
to buy a brand new leather belt because you can always find awesome secondhand ones. And now I'm
looking for my mom and I went to what was that H2O thrift store? Remember I got that black double
buckle? Yeah. I want a white double buckle belt now. I love that look. Oh that's pretty. Look at
this turquoise. It's not what I was saying I wanted but the belt's pretty. But this is kind
of cheesy. You're a rodeo girl. Yeah. You'd have to borrow my cowboy boot.
No double buckles. See all the master up here? That's how you need to do at your house. Like
group them all together. I did on that one mall. That looks so neat when there's like all the
faces. That's all the same face on mine. A few different ones. Yeah we gotta do a whole face
wall at your house. Look at the koi fish up there. Mask around you. Look at the koi fish one. That's
neat. I love that shade of green too. Yeah kind of aqua shade. That's the color of your bathroom
now. Oh my gosh mom this room looks like your whole style. Look at all the wood. I don't want
to talk about this. Oh that's huge though. That's really big for your. Only $3.95. Wow. Oh look at
the little little end tables. The whole set. I had the whole set in the old days. Did you? Yeah.
What a neat coffee table. Look at that mom. Big old kidney. I love these. I used to have this set.
Oh that's cute. I didn't have it painted. It was actually bamboo in them days. That's really neat.
Wow look at this thing. I'm looking at this now. Look at this. Oh how pretty that's green.
Wish mom's looking at this wood cutting. How beautiful would this be? Oh man look at this.
What is that like 50 pounds? Nah it's only about 20. Oh look at the nude painting. Look at this.
It's a teabag holder. Look at her. That's neat. Debbie could paint like that mom. What's that?
Well isn't that a teabag holder? Looks like a press. Oh looks like a teabag holder. Maybe it's
That bamboo set you like is $2.50.
We're gonna get rid of that one mom. No we can't. All right that one room with all the carvings was
my mom's room and this would be my room. Look at all the wicker and it's like all romantic and
summery over here. Oh it's so cute. Mom got her weeds. That'll go with my vase I just got at the
other store. Yeah we stopped at Goodwill and she got them for only $1.99. Now you just bought
in the yard and pick them. Yeah and that has the pampas grass you wanted. Yeah. Cool good job mom.
You're gonna have to send me a video so everyone can see what it looks like. A dyi.
All right we are in my kitchen now and I think this might turn into a little bit of a kitchen
tour. I don't know if I've shared the full space with you before on my YouTube channel but here we
are. I'm so excited that this light fixture looks so beautiful here. It's nice to have something
that's more period appropriate for our home. So when she said it was from the 1900s, which I think
I've said like five times already in this video, I was like pretty much sold on it and especially
since the like dark bronze really matches all the hardware that we already have in the kitchen it
just grounds the space again and ties it all together. I did a little bit of research on this
style of light fixture and it's called neoclassical and this is an era that I really don't know a
whole lot about with design and I'd love to learn more about it. So I think it's going to be
something that I'm going to dig a little bit deeper into just so I can be a little bit more
educated when I'm out looking at things. But I love how this looks at nighttime because I have
this really really soft beautiful glow and then all of the details in this frosted globe really
come out. Our kitchen has a lot of dark elements to it and more of like a gothic type look.
Our island especially. This was an antique library table and I got this at my favorite auction house
right when we first moved in and it's got these big winged griffins on every corner of it. It's
really cool. My husband and I jacked this up with some like I think these are from an old dresser
or something. As I said before I'm always hoarding architectural pieces when I go to estate sales and
and yard sales and stuff. I love to look for them and so it really came in handy with this. So we
jacked up the height so it'd be a nice island height and threw some marble on top. It's really
a fun piece. The pieces up here on either side of the window came from an antique piano. I didn't
disassemble the piano. This was another like auction find and we put these up right when we
first moved in because I thought it would look really cool just flanking the window and add a
little bit more richness in our kitchen which has lots of white in it. And these are from like the
sides of a piano so there's that stretch that holds the keyboard you know where the keys are
and then on either side there were like these s curls so that's where these came from. And then
the light fixture up above that is also a new addition. I found this on ebay. It's been rewired.
There was a seller on there that rewires antique lighting and I wanted something that had a little
bit more of like a masculine almost a craftsman feel to it and I think that this style is called
mission style and I just love that it's square and it's got these like squatty arms that come down.
It's really really perfect for over top of the sink and the countertop. You know I'd love it if
you'd hang out with me every week so please subscribe if you haven't already. It's totally
free and that's the best. I'll see you in the next video.
