We have a bit of a thrift theme in this video today.
I recently discovered a new trend called cottagecore.
And I don't know if this is new, but it's totally new to me.
And cottagecore is kind of similar to the romantic Victorian style that I love so much.
It's actually a little bit more laid back and relaxed and has a nod to nature.
So I thought today maybe we could pop into Goodwill and find some beautiful
things that are going to inspire this video.
My husband has a small drift boat that he uses for fishing.
And Oregon weather this week is going to be phenomenal.
So he brought it home from his mother's house where we store it.
And he's like, you know what, let's take it out this week.
Maybe we could go have some fun on the lake and just get out in the sunshine.
So I was thinking while I was wandering around Goodwill
that I want to surprise him with a fun little date night.
He thinks we're just going to take the dog out and float around the middle of the lake.
But I was thinking it'd be really fun to pack some snacks with us.
And I'm going to make a little angel food cake and some charcuterie.
And I was thinking some little wine, a little romantic date night,
almost like the notebook, but not really.
So I was really excited to find this beautiful basket because
I think that this is going to be perfect for housing,
like all of the pretty date night things that I'm bringing with me.
Plus this beautiful color almost looks like the soft kind of raspberry pink.
So it's totally something that I could, you know, roll blankets in for the guest room
or even towels or maybe on later on when I am tired of this,
I can put gifts in it and give it to somebody else.
Do you do that?
In our family, we thrift all the time.
Like my mom and I, you know, we're going to estate sales and garage sales a lot.
And those are our favorite gifts to give and to get our secondhand things.
So it's not unheard of for us to give one another a used item actually.
So what did I get in here?
I have to pull this stuff out.
Oh, this little cardigan.
I don't know if I showed this to you on camera,
but I was actually looking for something that was lightweight and chunky like this
that I could wear in the spring and summer months when, you know, it's nice during the day,
but it kind of cools down at night and you get that cooler breeze.
But you still want something kind of airy, if you know what I mean.
So I picked up this sweater and I think this is actually half off.
The color of the day was purple.
And I think I picked up a couple different purple items at 50% off.
So this was only $3.50 and it's in a really nice soft cream color.
It's from Forever 21.
So it's not, you know, a fancy high-end brand or anything, but it was in perfect condition.
And it's a great piece that I can bring to the lake with me or bring camping
or just, you know, wear out in the garden and something I'm not going to have to worry about
if I snag the fabric or accidentally stain it.
It's okay.
You know, I got it for $3.50.
It's such a deal.
I'm not bringing this with me for date night,
but you know, I'm working on my white and blue herb garden this spring and summer.
And I'm like snapping up every little cute pot that I can find.
This was only $2.99.
Our Goodwill had a small little floral department,
and this was the only blue pot that they had.
And it's in this really nice deep cobalt blue and it just needs a hole in the bottom.
So maybe if I do up a nice date night for Hubby, he'll drill a hole in the bottom for me.
Put him to work.
Oh, these were really beautiful.
So they had four of them.
I don't really need any more glasses, but they were so cute.
And this was also half off.
So they're only 99 cents.
They're old Japanese hand-painted porcelain glasses.
And I thought that they would be really cute
to bring for our wine glasses tonight for date night.
And I just thought the flowers, of course, were very romantic.
And they look like cottage core, right?
How am I doing here?
I think I'm doing pretty good.
Oh, this blanket was really exciting.
So I was going to get a tablecloth and I was looking at their big stack of them.
And they had some really pretty ones, but all of the ones I liked had big stains on them.
And they weren't like a stain that I could hide with a vase or anything
because we're going to be like, you know,
spreading it out either in the grass or on the boat.
And my husband would be like, what is this stained tablecloth you brought me?
So instead of the tablecloth idea,
I think I'm going to look through my own collection
and see what I've already thrifted for that.
But instead, I picked up this really beautiful throw blanket
because, you know, these spring evenings do get chilly, like I was saying.
And plus, this blanket's so beautiful.
I think it would look really pretty just thrown on the end of the bed here,
you know, when I'm not having it out for date night or anything.
Or I could bring this camping again.
See, that's what's great about thrifting.
You can find all these different things that are like multi-purpose
that you don't have a great investment in and they're okay to like bring outdoors.
This was only $6.99.
I think it's so pretty.
It's really, really soft.
And I love the fringy tassels on both ends.
It's so pretty.
And it's just like a nice gold, soft, soft yellow.
And I really think that this is very cottagecore.
I think I'm doing pretty good here.
So all I need is a little bit of nature mixed into this one.
And that's what we're going to do next.
So let's get all of these goodies together.
I'm going to bake an angel food cake
and put together a little charcuterie board for us tonight.
And then we're going to hit the road.
My husband loves salami.
And this would probably be the most exciting flower he would ever want.
So I'm going to attempt to make a salami rosette.
I've seen these online before and it looked so cool.
So we're going to try to make one together and see how this goes for me.
It looked like it was really easy to do.
And you just take each little piece and overlap it over the top of any wine glass.
And the more layers that you create, it just starts to take on a flower-like shape.
So I'm probably going to end up using this whole package I bet
because I think you need like a lot of meat petals.
Isn't that funny?
I'm making meat petals.
Okay, please comment below.
Raise your hand if you have done this before.
This is going to be really neat if it turns out cool.
Should I flip this over and see if it even looks like a flower?
Oh geez, let's see.
I have a feeling this is going to be funny.
Okay, let me push this down one more time.
Make sure it's all stuck together good because I hate for it to fall apart.
It does kind of look like a flower.
Oh my gosh, that's hilarious.
I'm going to put it in this little cup though so it doesn't fall apart in the cooler.
Oh my gosh, that does look like a flower.
I think he's going to be impressed.
I can't wait to see his reaction.
Oh my gosh, that's so cool.
So then when you want a piece of salami, you can just pluck the little meat petal.
It's the most romantic salami you've ever seen.
All right, so picnic basket is packed.
The salami rose turned out pretty darn cute.
I gotta tell you, I kind of felt like Martha Stewart when I flipped that thing over
and it actually looked like a flower.
You'll have to let me know in the comments below if you ever end up making one of them
because it was really easy and I think it looks a lot cuter than,
you know, just laying it all flat on the plate and stuff.
So I think I'm about ready to hit the road.
I just popped on some jeans and this little tank top that I got at Walmart last summer
but I kind of feel like something's missing
so I'm going to pop on one of my new springtime fragrances.
This is from Twisted Lily Boutique and it is not a perfume.
This is so different.
It is very unique and I think you'll really like this perfume
if you love something that's more softer and not like an overpowering scent.
This is one that someone will only smell if they get close to you
and it kind of smells like the fresh woods
and I think this will be the perfect fit for tonight.
At the ramp now and Pete's just finishing packing up the boat.
I got the picnic basket in there and the cooler full of goodies.
Millie's getting really antsy and excited.
We are ready to rock.
There's quite a few people here at the lake.
It's the first week in Oregon that we've had really nice weather
and I think everyone's just anxious to be outside in the sunshine.
So am I.
We made it.
Pete slammed us into the shore.
I should have filmed that part when I was screaming.
Oh yeah, it looks nice and dry and sandy.
All right.
Are you ready to have fun?
I'm ready to have fun.
That was awesome, Millie.
Good job.
Millie.
There's like bullfrog water up here in front of me
and I love.
It's one of our favorite things to do in the woods
and he knows a couple of spots that have these like really cool creeks.
I think they're like logging roads with the creek running next to them
and he finds them for me and he's like,
I know this awesome spot to go.
So we find all these like bullfrogs and things.
No, we haven't found bullfrog yet, I guess.
Huh?
Just like tree frogs, I guess.
But anyways, I love bullfrogs so much.
I love, just love to hold them.
They're so cute.
We're just saying how it'd be fun to come out here at night
when the sun goes down
so that you could really hear a lot of frog activity out here.
Look at that.
It's like total frog habitat right there.
Totally.
Toad.
Some kind of planted patch.
Pete was saying the other one on this side said butterfly habitat
on the sign.
Wouldn't it be cool to come out here when they're all hatched?
There's like thousands of butterflies flying around by the lake.
Thousands.
I can go to that.
Angel food cake.
Is that what you can make every time?
Yeah.
Wait till you see.
So I'm just unpacking the picnic basket
and one thing that was really cool about this design
is the shape of the basket fit my little placemat in here perfectly.
So I'm gonna put a little serving platter on top of this placemat
and I didn't have to take up any more room.
It just fit in here perfect.
So everything that I'm setting up here is totally thrifted
or from a garage sale or a state sale.
So it's okay if it gets a little grass stain or dirt on it today.
I'm not going to be upset about it because it was probably like a dollar.
This is a really pretty linen.
I don't know what this is called but I thought it was so beautiful.
I love the blue and white checkered gingham
and this kind of stitch work I've never seen before
and I actually think that it's a pillowcase
but I thought it would look really pretty today
just layered on top of the tablecloth that I have here
because it just ties in with the whole blue and white
and then this natural grass placemat.
This was a goodwill find.
State sale.
This was a goodwill.
I think this was from the flea market
and oh I brought my cardigan with me too
and the wind's starting to pick up here on the lake
so I think this will come in handy for later.
I'm gonna unpack the cooler now.
The only thing that doesn't match my whole theme is our modern cooler over here
but I'm gonna unpack everything
and I'm really looking forward to a little glass of wine in one of those cups.
Okay I want to share something really exciting that I made today.
Okay close your eyes and put out your hands.
I'm gonna take the wrapper off first.
I had to wrap it securely
because I didn't want it to fall apart on the boat ride.
This is a rose from me to you.
The meat rose!
Isn't that hilarious?
Oh my god that's hilarious.
Isn't that cool?
I'm impressed.
Millie would like this too.
Where'd she go?
She's watching it.
The meat rose!
Love you!
I love you.
How did you know?
Wow meat rose is a huge hit.
It's so cute.
Is it from the thrift store?
The meat rose?
No.
Yeah that looks awesome.
Okay hey I still haven't gotten to my wine yet.
Brought cloth napkins to the lake.
These were napkins we got for a wedding gift.
Oh I even have plates!
I forgot about that.
More estate sale finds.
These are cute little melamine.
I think these are like from the 60s.
They're really cute.
And not only that I have bird plates,
I brought bird utensils.
Yep so just in case you need a little knife.
And then you can save this knife
because I made strawberry shortcake later.
Yum.
Oh okay what did you want a beer?
I didn't I couldn't find your canned beers
but look at I even remembered a bottle opener.
I'm so pretty.
I can't decide which.
Look I had to get this little um what is it a brute champagne?
No it's prosecco because it's so cute.
It's like a little mini bottle.
I thought that was adorable.
And then I couldn't decide between that and the rose so I got both.
And I brought the little cups from Goodwill with me.
So cute.
I have to get anything mini.
It's too cute.
A little mini prosecco.
Oh my goodness.
Oh this is the scary part when you have to open it.
Oh it doesn't pop like the big bottles.
Oh it's so cute.
I should have brought one of my little paper straws.
Very good.
I'm gonna use my little cup though.
Baby got these cups for only 99 cents.
They're so cute.
We can even bring them camping and be fancy when we go.
These cute little cups remind me of my peonies in my garden
and they're so pretty.
I'm really excited that I got these.
I love a stemless wine glass like this
and they're perfect for being in the outdoors.
And I think they'll even be really cute on my patio.
Love them.
That was a great 99 cent Goodwill purchase.
It's so nice out tonight and we're not even getting any wind.
Pete just threw a piece of salami in the lake.
Millie's really bummed out because it sank.
He thought it was gonna,
he thought it was gonna float like a frisbee on top of the water.
Did you find it?
No.
Oh.
Aww.
We were gonna encourage her to swim.
Oh yeah.
But then it disappeared.
Good job dad.
I didn't pick it up yet.
We'll find it.
We need a better branch.
I'm getting excited for strawberry shortcake.
I was just looking at my hat and I got this years ago with my mom at an estate sale
and it was up in the top of a closet.
My mom and I came up to this estate sale and like it was midday.
Pretty much all the good stuff was gone and I always look in the closets for things
and at the very top of this closet was this straw hat
and I thought it was so beautiful and it was only a dollar
and has these little decoupage flowers all over it
and what I really think is special about it is that someone handed
all these little flowers on there and then on the underside
what's really fun is there's a couple more flowers here too
so when you tilt up your hat you can see them.
They're really cute.
I was thinking how fun that would be to do a little DIY video on it.
So I think that might be my next little project at home.
I might sit in the garden and see if I can duplicate something like this.
Maybe find a few little paper napkins or old vintage wallpaper
to do something like this on and be really really cute.
So anyways I'm glad that I found this little cardigan
because it's starting to chill down a little bit out here
and this was $3.50 at Goodwill and I just think it's so cute
so it'll be perfect for spring and summer months for me.
But it's pretty nice out here.
We only saw a couple other boats and it's just a really nice night.
Sometimes the wind will pick up here in the summer months
and it can get a little bit chilly but tonight's just perfect.
It just feels good to be outside again getting fresh air.
I don't know if you've been feeling like me lately but I love being home
but I really just miss being out in the fresh air and hearing the birds
and this time of year at home right now the birds will start chirping before the sun comes up.
They're so excited that it's spring and it's warming up outside
and I know that they are excited about flowers just like I am right now
and I think we're all just ready for spring.
It feels good to be out.
I'm really grateful for a nice night outside.
So I made angel food cake today and I was really excited about it
and I forgot how much it fluffs up in the oven
and I made these little cupcakes and they all just mesh together into one big cake on the cupcake pan
so it didn't look like I thought I was going to but they looked really cute.
They're still edible so that's good
and then I had a little bit of batter left over to make some little like pound cake looking pieces.
I don't have cream but I have strawberries to go with it.
Millie you're all up in it.
My mom used to make angel food cake when I was little.
I feel like we probably had this for some of my birthdays.
I'll have to ask my mom but I just love the smell of it
and this cake is like really nostalgic for me.
I had angel food cake and pink champagne cake.
Have you ever had that?
I haven't had pink champagne cake.
Oh you haven't?
That's like a 1950s cake.
In the 50s ladies would make them for bridal showers.
That was like the signature cake you would give to someone when they were like celebrating a baby.
It was a pink champagne cake.
I just liked it because it was pink.
But anyway so we're gonna have my angel food cake.
The smell of this, it smells like almonds.
I think that's why I love it so much and then I cut up some giant strawberries too
so we're gonna relax and have our little dessert now.
Something that needs to be documented is right about to happen
and I don't want you to miss this.
So earlier in the night we were having fun throwing salami frisbees
and we threw it in the water and it didn't float.
But the water's cleared up and there it is.
Ew you got it.
Wow.
Are you paying attention?
Whoa.
Ew.
That was like a s'more but for dogs like the marshmallow on a stick.
We did it.
You did it.
She's looking for more.
That wasn't enough.
Wow.
