ST PETE, FLORIDA St Pete Travel Guide
Welcome back to my channel.
So last night I flew into Tampa in Florida and I'm spending the next few
days exploring the area around St. Pete Clearwater.
I'm here with a few friends and we've got quite a busy schedule, but we
thought that we have to come and spend a little bit of time at the beach first.
So we got the ferry over to Kaladiti Island beach in America and it's very
pretty, the sand is incredibly white.
So I was just going to put my GoPro away and then I heard shouts from the water
and my friends have just spotted a dolphin right by the coast, which is lovely.
We're actually going on a dolphin boat tour later on today, where we're all
pretty excited because it's lovely to see dolphins of course.
Ooh, the water is a little bit chilly.
Now I'm in.
It feels colder.
So a showered and changed coast dolphin tour.
And now we've come to Pier 60, which seems to be a popular spot for sunset.
Are you ruining my, you know, I know I saw you.
I thought it would be really subtle.
Sorry.
Anyway, this is Pier 60.
And we're going to head down and watch the sunset at the end.
And then we're going to go out for some more food.
We've been eating a lot of seafood today, which I love.
A lot of people and birds come down to watch the sunset.
There's a few fishermen as well on the island.
This morning, we've come to downtown St.
Pete and we're doing a walking tour of some of the street art and murals.
Apparently St.
Pete is quite a popular place for artists and a lot of these pieces are commissioned.
And then obviously some of them are just local artists that have decided to make
the area a little bit more brightly coloured.
And we're starting at this piece behind me, which is just
on the side of the art centre.
And you can see the giant jellyfish with a brain there.
And it was clearly quite a challenging piece.
Not only the size of the mural, but also all of the different
structural challenges that they had to go over, like the staircases
and all of the piping and plumbing as well.
So some of the local shops and bars have commissioned pieces
all over the front of their buildings.
So we just went past the St.
Pete Brewing Company and they commissioned the whole of the front of it
to look like a banyan tree with tall ships and old planes, which was really lovely.
So this street here was meant to be part of a regeneration project
about a decade ago, but then obviously the financial crash happened.
So the funding wasn't there.
So instead, they actually commissioned artists to decorate the edge of the buildings.
This one behind me is just incredible.
And they've even painted the bins as well.
So this whole street actually looks very pretty.
Every single building is decorated.
Looks like Russian dolls.
There's one amazing mural over here that I really wanted to get a photo up,
but unfortunately, there's some work going on.
But look at this shark, complete with shark cage.
But unless I want to port-a-loo, then I don't think it's going to work out.
Doing a street art tour with a bunch of vlogger friends always takes a long time
because everyone wants to stop and take a lot of photos.
So I'm actually staying at two different places on this trip,
and I've just arrived at the Don Cesar Hotel in St.
Pete, which is definitely the most famous hotel in the area.
It was built in the 1920s.
It's right on the waterfront, and it's a huge pink building.
So in a second, I'm going to spin around and show you guys what it looks like.
Here's the pool area.
And this is the hotel.
Absolutely huge.
Surrounded by palm trees.
We've come down to see the hotel from the beach and get a proper view of it.
This is glorious.
Beach bar, giant chess set.
Greta, I'm terrible at chess.
I know how to play checkers.
You know, like drafts?
Yeah, yeah.
But not so good at chess.
I'm basically just like all board games and card games.
I'll do Trivial Pursuit.
Anyway, that's the hotel behind us.
Look how cool it looks.
So it's Friday night in St. Pete, and we have come down to St.
Pete's Shuffleboard Club.
Now there's 80 shuffleboard courts here, and all of them are full.
It's clearly a very popular place to come.
So I'm down here with some of my friends,
and we're going to learn how to shuffleboard,
because it's actually not that common in the UK.
There is a shuffleboard club in Shoreditch in London,
and I went once, and this will be my second time trying shuffleboarding.
The only way I can describe it is a little bit like curling,
but not on ice.
Don't use big sticks, which is lame.
And then you slide the puck down into the triangle behind.
So we've got a few drinks.
So it's actually a lot harder than it looks.
And I think the problem is we keep whacking it so hard
that it goes completely off the court.
We're not doing that well so far.
But this is so cute.
This is the world's oldest and largest shuffleboard club.
And yeah, there's 80 courts on a Friday night.
It's free and everyone can come down, which is really fun.
Oh, eight points for Alex.
We've come down to the waterfront to the Salvador Dali Museum,
and here they have the largest collection of his work outside of Spain.
So this is just the outside and there's a number of Dali inspired pieces
and then the actual museum itself,
which the architecture is pretty cool, to be honest.
And we're going to have a little wander around inside
because there's obviously all of the art to start with.
And then there's a few augmented reality areas and VR stuff as well.
So outside the museum, there is a wish tree
where you can tie on your wristbands
from the museum and make a wish.
And Greta and I managed to get two.
So we have two wishes, but we're not going to tell you
what we're wishing for or won't come true, obviously.
Make a wish, Alex.
I'm going to tie it on tight so my wish doesn't come off.
So I think I'm physically incapable of making a YouTube video
that doesn't include some kind of market.
I do just love markets.
And this one is the St Pete's Saturday market.
So every week it's on.
There's loads of different food, fresh produce, nice fresh honey,
local honey.
And there's so many cute dogs here as well, which is always a bonus.
Hey, I want to be on YouTube.
Oh, you're so cute, look at your little eyes.
You guys, unfortunately, my time in St Pete's Clearwater
is coming to an end,
which is a shame because I could stay here for a lot longer.
Love a bit of sun.
So I'm going to have a couple of hours by the beach before I have to fly back.
Really hope that you guys have enjoyed my video and make sure to subscribe.
