Exploring BUDA of Budapest Hungary! _ Part 1
Hello everyone and thanks for tuning in. If you guys have been following along
then you guys know that we're on our third destination.
We've been to Prague, Czech Republic, Vienna, Austria and now
we're in Budapest, Hungary. So we're going to be here for
17 days so what better way to start this off by
showing you guys our Airbnb and a hop on and hop off bus tour.
Let's go. Welcome to our crib. So this is our place in Budapest and it's
awesome. The people were super nice. They gave us a little chocolate and some
fruit. How can you not love them when they leave
you a bottle of wine? Come on. So here's the living room.
We have a bed up there. That's really cool. We have a view to a church
on this side. So that's awesome.
This is where we're going to be. This is going to be the
party table.
This square was built to celebrate the 1000 years of the
Hungarian state and it has all the heroes of the past.
Some of the heroes are World War II heroes.
So this side is Buda and this side of the river is Pest.
Budapest.
Strong. We are on top of Geyert Hill and we are on the
Citadel. It's a fortress built on top. Right now
we are going to check out the Liberty statue that is
seen from anywhere looking onto this hill.
It was built by the Hungarian Austrian Empire.
They were trying to build a strong fortress so the Hungarian people would
not rebel against them. So it's actually a symbol of oppression
but now and that was in 1800. Now over the years and with this new
statue, it's a symbol of freedom.
So while we're on this trip, Omar is collecting
souvenirs and he is picking up magnets. But he's being very systematic about it
because he will go shop around at any souvenir shop that we pass by to
make sure he gets the perfect one. And here at the Citadel, we found the
perfect one.
We just finished taking the hop-on-hop-off-the-bus tour.
Now we're walking back home through these beautiful streets.
Yay, another mister thingy. So today we're going to be hanging out on
the Buda side of Budapest and we're going to be hanging out on
Castle Hill. So hopefully seeing the Fisherman's
Bastion, Matthias Church, and pretty much just like the palace
grounds. So hopefully it's going to be a beautiful day.
So before this bridge was made, you needed to have a boat so that you can
get from Buda to Pest or Pest to the Buda.
Or you had to wait for winter so that the ice
would coat the entire river and you could walk across.
But there were problems because you might get stranded if
the water or the ice would melt. So then people got fed up and they had to make a
bridge.
Here's the funicular line. Guess what we're gonna do?
We're at Buda Castle and it now is a museum and national gallery of history.
They're in the middle of starting up a folk festival. Looks like it's going to
be a fun time.
We're on Castle Hill and behind me is Matthias Church.
Its construction began in the early 1200s but had to be rebuilt several
times throughout history. For a period of about
150 years it was taken over by the Turks and turned into a mosque.
But now what you see is a 19th century renovation.
I think this is the first time I've ever seen so much color on a church.
So I saw YouTube videos that there's an underground labyrinth
where Count Dracula used to be held.
Oh, why is it so gapy?
Why? Doing this like, okay. We can't do this in the dark.
Oh god. Record that. I am. Turn off the light.
Whose bright idea was this? Oh, Dracula.
Inside the Great Market Hall where it looks like they have
more selection on the market like fruits and
staples and butchery. Hungarians are known for their paprika
so I am seeing a lot of stands.
See if they have limes. Oh, they actually have limes.
This is goulash.
How's that goulash?
Make it pasty or chewy. It tastes like Mexican caldo de arroz.
