Welcome to the Winter Bookstore. My name is Winter Kim.
Today, as you can see from the title, I'm going to recommend 18 books at once.
I haven't been able to upload a lot of book recommendations lately,
and as you know, it's hard for me to upload YouTube videos often now,
so I was thinking about how to satisfy those who want book recommendations,
and I thought I should do a bomb tour at once.
These 18 books are actually a list of books that I donated to a place called Eollukso.
So if you've seen Eollukso, you might have seen this list,
but I don't think there are many people who have read the Eollukso article among those who have seen the video,
so I'm going to introduce it a little quickly.
It's 18 books, so even if I do this for a minute, the video will be almost 20 minutes,
so I'll try to introduce it as quickly and briefly as possible.
There are a total of four articles that I donated to Eollukso.
So I recommended about four to five books for each of these four articles.
And the main topic was about how we can build a society and a community with more people
and live well with our neighbors.
So there are four topics in total.
The first article is about strangers,
the second article is about sad workplaces,
the third article is about excluded bodies,
and the fourth article is about reaching out.
Then, I'll tell you about the books that I listed on the first list of strangers.
The first book is called,
I Turn Off the Camera of Director Yang Young-hee.
Director Yang Young-hee is a movie director.
He made the stories related to his family into a documentary trilogy,
and he also made it into a movie.
This documentary trilogy was very well received.
The background of his family is a little...
How should I put it?
When we read Director Yang Young-hee's books or watch movies as Koreans,
we feel very complicated emotions.
The history of the family has some twists and turns.
First, his parents are the first Koreans.
His father was the executive director of Jochongnyeon.
And there were three older brothers above Director Yang Young-hee.
These brothers became North Korean defectors under the name of returning business and lived in North Korea.
And his mother, I remember when she fled to Jeju Island.
She also has a memory of suffering in Jeju Island.
It's a family background that has some historical twists and turns.
In that background, Director Yang Young-hee grew up in Japan since he was a child.
He grew up absorbing American culture and Japanese culture.
He also studied film in New York.
He made a book and a movie about the story of a family with many perspectives.
It was one of the most impressive books I read last year.
I recommend this book.
I want to talk longer, but it's already been 5 minutes since I turned on the camera.
I'll move on to the next book quickly.
The second book is a book that I recommended on YouTube.
It's a book called Minor Feelings written by Cassie Park Hong.
I'll post a video of my recommendation for this book.
Will I be able to find the video?
I've uploaded too many videos so far.
To put it simply, it's a book about the experience of an Asian-American woman poet.
It's a book that captures the very delicate and discriminatory feelings of minorities.
It's a book that won a lot of awards.
I read it when it came out a few years ago.
It was one of the most impressive books I read that year.
I remember talking about this book on YouTube.
It's a book that goes well with the theme of strangers.
The third book is also one of the books I want to strongly recommend.
It's a book called Lia's Country written by Anne Fadiman.
Actually, this book came out a while ago.
How many years has this book been out?
It was published in the United States in 1997.
It was also published in Korea in 2010.
It's a book that's been re-published this time.
It's a story about a child named Lia.
The problem is that Lia is a Mongolian child.
She was born in California.
The Mongols fled for historical reasons and settled in California.
But the traditional culture of the Mongols and the medical treatment of California didn't go well together.
In Mongolia, there is a child named Lia who has cerebral palsy.
There is a way to treat it according to Mongolian tradition.
But it doesn't go well with the medical system in California.
So Lia has to go through a lot of things between her parents and the medical staff.
So they're frustrated with each other.
The medical staff really wants to treat this child.
Her parents are also very upset.
In the process, the medical staff even reports it as child abuse and even experiences being separated from the child.
So people who have a completely different culture and a completely different way of thinking are in conflict with Lia's body.
What does it mean to meet a strange culture?
Especially, what does it mean to meet through the body in the medical field?
It's very specific and realistic.
I think this is one of the classics.
So I recommended this book with the theme of strange people.
The fourth book is a fundamentalist who rejects Mosin-Hamid.
I read this book while I went to the Frankfurt Library.
I'll post the video.
So you can check out my impression of this fundamentalist in the video.
A very smart Pakistani protagonist goes to the United States to study abroad.
He gets a very successful career.
He gets into a good company and graduates from Princeton University.
So he gets into the mainstream.
And then he goes through what happens to him.
So I recommended this book as a story that shows that a person with a different culture and a different appearance is not an exception for an elite course.
The last recommended book on the theme of strange people is a book called Stranger Neighbors by reporter Lee Jae-ho.
Reporter Lee Jae-ho interviewed and covered the refugees who came to Korea and published the book.
Because we think of refugees as a very abstract and one unit, we don't get to hear each person's story in detail.
We only get to know what kind of refugees and where they came from.
And there are a lot of refugees who are not even reported.
So the image of refugees is very abstract and abstract in a way.
But I'm also curious.
I want to hear about the situation where I had to leave my country, my homeland, and everything I've ever lived for my whole life and the heart of that person.
In that sense, I wanted to meet the refugees and listen to the story of reporter Lee Jae-ho, and I listed this book together.
So I listed five books on the first topic, Stranger People.
Time flies.
Let's move on to the second topic.
The second topic is about sad workplaces.
You can guess just by hearing the title of the topic.
I picked out some books about how people are doing at workplaces.
We spend the most time at work.
In the case of people who work, I work at home, but I spend the most time in the environment where I work.
So understanding the workplace can be very important for understanding other people's lives.
So I picked out five books on the topic of sad workplaces.
The first book is Woo Chun-hee's Perilla Leaf War.
I think this book came out last year.
There are a lot of migrant workers working in Korea.
It's hard for people who live in the city, especially in Seoul, to know exactly what migrant workers are doing, and on the contrary, who are growing and harvesting the ingredients we are eating.
It may be natural for people in that environment, but I didn't know much because I'm from Seoul.
So I wanted to read this book, and while I was reading it, the migrant workers in the book were treated very unfairly.
There is a limit to the freedom of movement, and there are cases where the amount of money is very small.
For example, there was a situation where I had to pay 300,000 to 400,000 won rent for a house built with a sandwich panel that was blowing in the wind.
Of course, I lost my life in that situation, and I felt very bad.
I recommended this book because it was a book that allowed me to know some of the things that were happening in the workplace where we were producing food.
The second book is Heo Hwan-ju's Rider.
I was on a program called Reading Korea last year, and I had a chance to listen to other people's recommendations.
I also recommended two books.
At that time, Lee Geum-hee, the emcee, bought about 30 or 50 books and gave them out to people around him.
It was a very impressive book, and all the panels said that this book was very impressive.
The title of this book is about delivery work.
Of course, it starts with delivery work, but it doesn't just stop at delivery work.
There's a platform that delivers this delivery work.
So where is this platform labor going?
There's a business card for this platform labor.
There are definitely good things and bad things, but let's take a look at it.
The two reporters were investigating with the intention of taking a deep look.
They're both from different media.
They said, let's hold hands and do a survey together.
It's a result of a survey.
They say that our labor is no longer classified as the labor we've thought of so far.
It's becoming very diverse in the form of employment.
It was a book that made me think about where to go and what new policies are needed.
That's why I wanted to make a list.
I've introduced the third book on YouTube before.
It's a book called Kim Kwan-wook's People, Customer.
I'll post a video of this, too.
It's a book about what doctors and human scientists see in the work of counselors working at call centers.
It's a book about what's going on in people's bodies and how people's minds are shrinking.
In this book, the counselors working at the call center are asking if it's a modern version of Gong Soon-hee's work.
I listed this book, too.
The fourth book is The Death of a Child Written by Eun-yoo.
It's a book that makes me cry a lot.
The title is The Death of a Child Written by Eun-yoo.
There are a lot of children who don't know.
The topic of this list is about work.
In the case of The Death of a Child Written by Eun-yoo,
There was a death accident when the students who went to the company to practice on the spot before they graduated from Meister High School.
There were also accidents that caused a lot of injuries.
It didn't just happen in a limited workplace.
There were death accidents in various workplaces and companies.
I asked Eun-yoo what happened to this student while covering the surroundings of the student who had a death accident.
It's a book about students who are not students or workers.
Some students are not protected from the company because they are students.
Some students are not taken care of by the school because they are workers.
It's a book about students who are in a very ambiguous situation.
It's a book about how we're going to deal with these students.
It was an opportunity for me to think about the existence of students in the workplace.
The last book of the second topic is a book called Don't talk about labor by Jeon Hye-won.
The previous books were specific cases.
It was a book about the stories of migrant workers working in the field or the stories of call center counselors.
The last book is more comprehensive.
It's a book that I added because I thought it would be necessary to have a book that summarizes the whole thing from a political or social perspective.
In this book, I'm looking at how our labor scene is changing and how the policy should follow it through the keyword training.
There are more and more areas where training is no longer necessary.
For example, if you start a business through a franchise, you don't need a lot of training.
Instead, franchise owners are policy holders, but they are now policy holders as if they belong to the franchise.
How are we going to do this labor policy?
I'm taking a step away from the labor issue.
It's a book about those various issues.
So I listed these five books on the topic of sad workplaces.
I have two topics left, but I have to go out for a while.
I'll be back in a minute.
Wait a minute.
I went out in a hurry.
I'll keep going.
The third topic is the topic of excluded bodies.
When we live in a society, each of us has a different body.
I think each of us will have a similar experience, but we actually have a very different experience.
For example, the daily life of a person with or without a back disc is very different.
The daily life of a person with or without an allergy is also different.
If you go into more detail, you will have more diverse experiences, and this social experience will be imprinted on your body.
So I listed books that can look into our bodies in that sense.
I listed four books on this topic.
The first one is a book called Be a Cyborg.
I told you that this book should be distributed one by one.
I'll post this video separately.
It's a non-fiction book that Kim Chul-wook and Kim Won-young looked into the relationship between the body and technology, the relationship between disability and technology.
It's such a good book, so I highly recommend it.
The video is getting longer, so I'll move on quickly.
The next book is also a book that I recommended.
It's a book called If Pain Becomes the Way Written by Professor Kim Seung-suk.
I also recommended this book.
I'll post a video of this book.
This book contains a lot of references.
This book is a book about the role of society in exploring the social causes of diseases.
There must be a direct reason why we are sick.
For example, someone died of a fever.
The direct cause of death is a fever.
There may be another social reason why this person got a fever.
It's a field that explores the causes of diseases.
It's a book about how to prevent diseases or how to look at it.
It's a book that you can take a closer look at.
So I listed this book together.
The third book is a book called Crazy, Weird, Arrogant, and Smart Women by Hamina.
I remember introducing this book in the 12 o'clock book.
This is a book that I read very impressively.
It's a book about depression.
Depression has been diagnosed in a certain way.
Especially in the case of female depression, how did the society look at it?
How did the medical community look at it?
And how did the parties look at depression or other diseases diagnosed with depression?
It's a book that looks at these things very deeply.
If you're interested, I think you should take a look.
And the last book is a book called Not Mysterious Women by Im So-yeon.
I listed this book when I curated the book.
The way science looked at women, the way science interpreted women's bodies,
The way science has excluded women's bodies.
It's a book that you can take a closer look at these things.
Or about female scientists.
It's a book about female scientists who have been directly excluded from the scientific community.
So I listed these four books.
I'm busy. I'm busy.
Because the video is getting longer.
The last list, the fourth list, was a list called reaching out.
The last list was a list of specific topics.
There were topics like workplace and body.
The last one was a book about the posture of a community.
It's a book about the posture of people who live together in a community.
The first book is a book called, Can we share the pain of the mother?
I briefly mentioned this book when I introduced the book on YouTube.
It's a book about that.
Through the topic of pain,
The way our society deals with pain.
Or the way we deal with people around us who are suffering.
I think we need to look at these things again.
It's a book about that.
When someone is suffering from pain,
It's definitely helpful to accept and look at the testimony of that person's pain.
The person who is in pain.
If I borrow the expression of this book, it's not the correct wording.
When you're in pain, pain is the master.
It's not that the person is in pain.
Because the pain has become the state of the person.
About the pain that the person expresses.
I'm going to take this well.
I'm going to organize this well.
How can I solve this pain?
Whether it's a person or a system that's going to worry about it.
Don't you need anything?
Starting with my personal experience of pain.
The painful experience of our society.
Even things like this.
It's a book that looks at the whole thing with the theme of pain.
The second book is Oh Chan-ho's Nakedness.
This is the second book of the person who is studying sociology.
In the case of this Nakedness,
When there are people who complain about this pain,
How does this society accept this complaint?
Respect for the complaint.
I think it can be connected to the question of whether we are making enough effort.
Looking at the events that have become a big issue in our society.
What happened in each issue.
Let's talk about what we're going to do.
I wrote this book with that in mind.
The next book is Julia Ebner's One Day Darkness.
In the case of this One Day Darkness,
This is a non-fiction book.
It's a bit of a thriller.
The author is a political scientist.
He himself joined the extremist communities.
Italian neo-fascist, white nationalist, neo-nazi, jihadist.
There are really representative extremists.
These people's online community.
I also go to offline meetings.
So they have their own process of joining.
You know, there's a test for joining.
I don't really care about those things.
Sometimes I make mistakes.
For example, I go to a cafe and order soy milk latte.
If I do this, I'm a little bit caught.
I make a little mistake with that.
Anyway, I'm going to go in there and work hard.
What kind of process do people go through?
I'm getting more and more into extremism.
It's getting stronger and stronger.
Because of what?
I wanted to see with my own eyes what made me fall in love with this group.
I'm writing about that.
The author says this.
Because I knew the methods of extremists.
In the process of coverage, I couldn't get caught in the engine of this rapid evolution.
I'm talking about this.
I'm asking these readers.
Readers read this book.
I know how these people touch people and make them extremists.
If you know this, you can respond.
I hope you can be careful.
I'm writing about that.
So I went directly into the community of extremists.
I also listed the book called One Day of Darkness by Yulia Ivanova.
This book is called One Day of Darkness by Kim Young-kyung.
I've talked about this book many times.
Is there a limit to the number of videos I can post?
I'll post it on the iCard.
Whether you can relate to this book or not,
After reading this book, I want to talk a lot about this book.
Of course, this book can be unfamiliar to some people.
You can say, this is a lie of an extremist.
Anyway, I think the process of reading this book and talking about it together can be meaningful.
I think I found a book about the modernization of Derrida.
There are a lot of books that you can read in a row.
I thought it would be nice to connect and read a variety of books.
I hope you can think of these books as a starting point, not the end.
I hope I can spread it out a little more.
I published this book every week.
I originally planned to make it five.
It ended up being four.
I was going to write one more book about animals.
I'll do the book listing next time.
It's already a very long video.
I'll wrap up today's video here.
I'll talk to you again next time I have a chance.
I've told you 18 books today.
I won't take questions about book recommendations for the time being.
No, I'm kidding.
The books I've recommended are books with a specific topic.
If you want to read a variety of books, or if you want to make a career to read together,
I think you can refer to it.
Then I'll wrap up today's video here.
Thank you for coming today.
See you again.
Bye.
