I've changed jobs about 10 times
and these people are the mentors you need to have.
We have a lot of communication tools.
Phone, e-mail, text, KakaoTalk, and messenger.
I've seen a lot of people who are good at their jobs.
Hello, subscribers of Knowledge Insider.
I'm Sung In Rae.
I'm working as an accelerator at a large company.
I recently published a career book called Move Up.
I've been giving lectures to more than 500 people since last year.
There are about 100 people who are one-to-one mentors.
The person who leads the conversation first is the one who is good at his job.
Some people are uncomfortable.
Or if I call, will this person be busy now?
Or if I call, wouldn't it be nice to see you?
I'm postponing the doctor's decision.
That's how much time is delayed.
In my opinion, many people are good at their jobs when they call first.
But on the other hand, if I'm doing my job, but I keep getting calls from others.
But I've never called anyone.
This is a bit of an active aspect.
You need to check if you're really doing a good job.
But even if you're doing a difficult job,
If you think this is one-to-one, it's not difficult at all.
I'm not asking you to lend me money personally.
I'm not asking you to meet me personally.
If you look at people who are good at their jobs, they're confident.
When you request, this is one-to-one.
You're confident that you're not going to work with me.
I'm sorry.
Thank you so much.
It's very good in Korea.
But in fact, it's better to go straight to the essence.
But the key to all calls and emails is two steps.
So first of all, you have to drop the main content.
When I first sent an email to Knowledge Inside,
Hello, who am I?
I want to appear on Knowledge Inside.
This is my information, so please review it and give me your opinion.
It's a very concise message, but I wrote it in two steps.
People don't have time.
If you hide the grains in the textbook,
People get tired of opening the wrapping paper.
You have to be efficient and direct.
One-to-one people are the first to do difficult things.
So communication goes first to the most difficult person.
Everyone, think of the most difficult person in your head.
If you don't go to work,
Just think of the most difficult person to communicate with among acquaintances, meetings, and family members.
If you agree with that person first,
The rest of you are a little easier.
People who are good at work don't communicate with just one method.
We have a lot of communication methods.
There are four or five things that come to mind right now.
Let's think about it.
Phone, email, text, Kakao Talk, private messenger.
And what's the most important thing?
Go directly.
There are so many ways.
It's stupid to do one of these ways.
Because the more you send a lot of reminders,
The more likely you are to achieve what you want.
So I see a lot of people who are good at work.
I'll write an email first.
I'll call you after I write an email.
Sometimes I don't answer the phone.
Then I'll leave a text message.
I left a text message, but I can't get an answer.
I'll move it to Kakao Talk.
I sent it to Kakao Talk, but I can't get an answer.
Then I'll go to the private messenger or find it myself.
In fact, you can do various methods as you like.
It's easier for me to find someone first.
Or I'm more comfortable with Kakao Talk than phone.
You can do Kakao Talk first.
But you don't give a lot of time difference.
Should he answer me or not?
You can do the next step while you wait.
But in fact, I don't know if someone will grow in a year or not.
But if you look at the characteristics of those people,
There is a high probability that other people will grow in today's work and tomorrow's work.
So it's called the expansion of this work.
Let's assume I did something today.
Tomorrow, there is a high probability that my work will grow vertically or horizontally.
The vertical growth here is the growth of authority.
For example, I used to do only the first stage of decision-making.
But now I've gone beyond decision-making and I've gone to the stage where I can even restrict it.
Then, in fact, my authority has risen.
And there is also a horizontal rise in work.
There must be one work that I used to do.
When you do something other than your work,
You can say that your work expands horizontally.
Then, people who expand vertically and expand horizontally will be different a year later.
Even if you don't promote, you can work as if you promoted.
Because the authority has risen.
In the past, the person who worked this much could grow this much in a year.
The opposite case is so interesting.
If you do the same thing as yesterday,
And if you keep doing what you're comfortable with,
You can be the same.
You can be consistent.
But it's a bad expression to say that work is consistent.
I'm doing the same work today as I've done before.
My authority is the same.
Then I have a high chance of doing the same work a year later.
So there must have been a growth pain until I got used to it.
You have to repeat this infinitely to grow.
I'm doing a great job with a snapshot now.
This is simple.
What kind of growth pain did I have for a year?
I've never held a meeting with more than five people.
Have I ever done it to 100 people?
You can ask this question.
For example,
I've only planned a new business.
Have I ever done marketing?
Should I design it?
Expansion of these thoughts can grow me.
The key to growth is the F word, feedback.
If you speed up this feedback,
The range of growth is getting bigger.
How can I speed up the feedback?
There are two ways.
The first is to find more people who can give feedback.
If there were five or ten people who gave me feedback,
This feedback is received by more people.
Do you know why YouTubers are growing so much these days?
That's because they've seen a lot of YouTube comments and feedback.
Second, I love this technique so much.
Follow me from now on.
Why? Why? Why? Why?
You can ask me five times.
How do you do it?
Someone gave me feedback.
Why do you think so?
I just thought so.
Why do you think so?
I think this was a little lacking in terms of design.
Why do you think so?
If you ask me five times,
You can find out the real reason.
First of all, Korean companies are the weakest.
First, there is a sense of authority over the boss.
I just want my boss to think of me as a person who works with me.
That's one thing.
Second, it's central to the relationship.
When I was in the U.S.,
I ate lunch alone.
In Korea, if you don't talk, you eat together.
If you don't talk, you have to work overtime together.
It's a natural culture.
When I work overtime,
If I pack my stuff and go alone,
I felt like a traitor.
If tomorrow is over, I can go.
Why is that a traitor?
I work too much in the company.
It's not work.
I think it's a culture that prioritizes relationships.
And lastly,
I spend too much time at work.
I heard that the government has become more active since COVID-19.
Basically, there is a culture of working overtime at work.
I think there are more in Korea.
The U.S. company I used to go to
There was a concept called overtime.
If you have to work overtime,
Whether you do it at work or at home,
It's as much as you have to work.
For some reason, in Korea,
Only working at work is recognized as overtime.
I think I've even seen a company that pays overtime.
So I think that's a bit of a problem.
There are a total of three ways.
First, you have to be able to classify gaslighting.
A very fast way to classify gaslighting is
My range of action is
It compares before and after gaslighting.
I used to have a wide range of action.
I've been gaslighted.
If the range of action narrows and shrinks,
You have to doubt it.
The second is to look at the grains.
They usually look at the law a lot.
So it's between us.
It's me, so I'm telling you.
Or it's not what I think.
I don't think it's good for other people to think.
I think you should do that.
I wrap this up very nicely.
If you think about it,
The grains narrow down my range of action.
You have to judge if that person really said that for me.
It's because of the situation, the speaker, and the relationship.
No matter how pretty the stone is,
It's just a stone.
It's not a snowman.
And lastly, you have to take your time.
I've told you a lot.
If you don't know this or that, just remember this.
If you get bored with time,
There's a high chance of gaslighting.
Because I've lived so far.
Based on that,
Some of the stories I've heard are...
Why did he say that to me?
I can't be a doctor anymore because of him.
If you're a little uncomfortable,
There's a high chance of gaslighting.
Actually, it's very uncomfortable.
There are people who say the right thing.
There are people who throw it directly without wrapping it up.
If you listen to other people's stories, it's all right.
And my range of action is getting bigger.
And when I talk to this person,
I'm more confident.
I have confidence that I can do better.
You have to put those people next to you.
These people.
At first, it's very cold.
He's a T-type.
It's a little uncomfortable.
If you put these people next to you,
You can keep getting feedback.
And it's especially good if you put it next to you.
Even if it's not tomorrow, you keep giving me feedback.
These people are the ones you have to put next to.
These are very precious mentors.
You have to think about whether the timing to transfer is right or not.
Usually, people who come to me say,
My salary is lower than others.
But why do you compare it to other people's salaries?
Your salary last year.
Your salary this year.
And you have to be objective about what you're doing.
You can't think of it on the basis of other people's average levels.
And another important point.
You have to judge if your job is growing you.
You have to judge if you are growing yourself.
You have to judge if your vertical and horizontal work is expanding.
If the work is stopped, this is the time to move.
I've been expanding for a long time.
I've been doing design work, planning work, marketing work, and a lot of other work.
I think I don't have enough money. I want to move.
This isn't right.
And everyone, I hear a lot about not chasing money.
In fact, if I chase growth, I can't help but chase money.
Sometimes I went to a company that gave me less money because of my growth.
But do I regret that choice?
I don't regret it at all.
First of all, you can check it out when you interview.
I interviewed for a company, but they kept asking me questions and didn't give me the timing to ask questions.
And there's going to be an interview where I'm going to refute what I said and give feedback to each other.
This kind of interview is not only a very good interview, but also a good work environment.
In fact, it's very uncomfortable to use growth and success together.
The two are very different concepts.
Usually, many people come to me and say,
1. How much do I earn now?
2. What am I doing?
3. I'm this kind of person.
But in fact, in order to judge this person properly,
You have to compare what he did last year, what he did two years ago, and even what he did last month.
So you have to see if this person is growing.
I don't think anyone can judge if this person has succeeded or not with a snapshot.
The career that we often say,
Even if that career is only for a few decades or a few years,
This person is better than before.
A better salary than before.
A better work environment than before.
A bigger organization than before.
You can say that this work has been expanded because of this.
You can say that this person has grown.
So when you judge someone,
And when you judge your career,
You judge their growth.
So growth is not a snapshot, but a video.
Draw this person's past.
Draw the present.
And then,
Guess how far this person will go in a year from the extension production.
This is growth.
I don't think anyone can guarantee success with just one pretty, bright picture.
