The Magician and his Servant

Deep in a forest was a desirable castle.
In this no one lived but a magician,
who had brought together enormous treasures through his magic
and still brought them together every day.
This magician had a servant,
who had nothing else to do
than to turn the room and wipe the dust from the books on the day when his master was away.
Once he had a servant,
who had served his master for six years,
without thinking about
why his master always moved on on the day,
then returned home in the evening
and studied in the books at night.
In the seventh year, however, curiosity awoke in him to know more and to research,
which made his master so rich.
When he had turned the room and wiped the dust from the books,
he always read in the books as well.
And when the year was over,
he had learned all the magic.
He now took his leave and went home.
Enjoy yourself with me,
he said to his father and mother and to his brother, whom he had.
Now we will soon become rich.
I will turn into a beautiful horse.
Then my brother will sell me, but without the reins,
because then I can turn back and return home.
So it happened.
He immediately turned into a horse.
His brother sold him,
but returned the reins.
And so he soon returned home in human form,
and the buyer had foreseen it.
It took a long time,
and they had already made a lot of money.
Then it happened.
When they came back to the market,
a buyer appeared.
He offered his brother the fourfold price
if he sold him the reins.
He didn't want to wait long.
Finally he let himself be persuaded,
because he thought
it would not be such a big damage.
But the buyer was none other than the magician
who had recognized his servant.
He immediately sat down on the horse
and rode in front of a blacksmith
and wanted to have the horse
hit with glowing horseshoes.
But as he had left,
tied his horse and went to the blacksmith
to order the work with the blacksmith,
schoolboys came out of the school,
saw the beautiful horse,
went closer and stood still.
Then the horse asked a boy
to take off his heifer.
As soon as this happened,
the horse turned into a little bird
and flew away in a hurry.
In this the magician came out of the blacksmith.
When he saw the bird fly away,
he immediately turned into a heifer.
He followed the little bird.
It flew into the city,
and there in the palace,
just in the room of the princess,
a window was open,
it flew in there
and immediately turned into a beautiful young man
and closed windows and doors.
The princess liked the young man,
but he said,
Do you want to save me?
So I'll turn into a ring right away.
I'll put it on my finger
and won't give it away for any price
and throw it away
if you are forced to give it away.
The princess promised to do so.
Immediately he turned into a ring.
The princess put it on his finger
and never took it off.
Then it happened that her father, the king,
became seriously ill and no doctor could help him.
Soon there was a doctor who said
he could and wanted to help him
if he received the ring of the princess for it.
To save her father,
the princess promised the ring.
Only when she was supposed to give it to him,
she threw it on the floor of the room.
Immediately he turned into a quarter of a deer.
But the doctor turned into a roe deer,
which greedily ate up the deer.
But one grain was splashed far into a crack.
When the roe deer now believed
to have eaten everything,
the last grain of deer turned
into a young man with a sword.
He held the roe deer's head.
There was great joy
when the young man brought the great treasure
from the castle of the sorcerer.
He married the beautiful princess.
And when the king did not die long after,
the young king became
and let his father and his mother
and his brother also come to the court
and they now lived together happily
and satisfied for a long time.
