In 2 minutes, I'm going to explain a subject as complex as self-confidence.
By quoting two well-known psychologists, I'm going to make you gain several years of research.
According to Moussa Nabati, the author of the book The Happiness of Being Yourself,
what is self-confidence?
Self-confidence, this inner freedom that allows us to express our tastes and our points of view,
to choose and to refuse, to form projects and to achieve them,
this happy cocktail of desire and will, self-esteem and optimism,
vital force that nourishes and animates us, giving us the happiness of being ourselves, alive and whole.
Where does this self-confidence come from?
Self-confidence is not a problem of paper, but of foundation.
It is based above all on the love we have received in the very first moments of our existence.
This love forms the image we have of ourselves and, from there, the esteem we carry.
To have self-confidence is to be filled with this energy of love and life.
This is what allows you to love yourself, quietly, with your qualities and your flaws.
He clearly explains that self-confidence comes from self-esteem,
from the love we have for ourselves, and this love comes from our parents.
So yet we all say to ourselves, but my parents loved me, I don't understand.
Of course our parents loved us, but did they manage to instill an esteem of us?
Or, as Moussa Nabati says, the happiness of being yourself.
And precisely, what does it mean to be yourself?
We will now take what Gabor Maté says, who is a doctor specializing in addictions.
In his books, Gabor Maté speaks in particular of authenticity, that is to say the ability to be yourself.
And he puts in parallel authenticity and attachment, two vital needs, especially for a child.
And that's what he says.
People have two needs, attachment and authenticity.
When authenticity threatens attachment, attachment wins over authenticity.
Think back to all those times when, as a child, you couldn't express your anger, your sadness, your fear.
Obviously your parents love you.
But do they have the tools to help you live all your emotions?
To be fully yourself, without shame, without taboo?
There are strong chances that to please your parents, that is to say to fulfill your need for attachment,
you have self-censored some of your emotions.
You have sacrificed your authenticity.
So if we summarize, the lack of self-confidence is the consequence of emotions that we have buried during our childhood.
It's as if we were missing a part of ourselves.
We don't feel authentic, true, whole.
We lack self-esteem and therefore self-confidence.
So you will tell me, how to regain self-confidence?
This is an inner work to go and look for and learn to live with our buried emotions.
To finally feel complete, serene, confident inside.
And find, as Moussa Nabati says, this inner freedom that allows us to express our tastes and our points of view.
To choose and to refuse.
To form projects and to realize them.
