The Colorado Rockies are a team, man.
Typically they're a team that I'd rather watch the room over, but not on this day.
Not on this particular day against the Rays at Coors Field.
I mean, any game at Coors Field has the makings to be as chaotic as a Tommy Wiseau movie,
and that was as true as ever on Friday.
Nine runs were scored combined in the ninth inning.
After being down 6-2 in the ninth, the Rays came all the way back and scored
five runs to take the lead, only for Ryan McMahon to then hit a walk-off grand slam.
There were multiple walk-offs.
Just days after playing each other in San Diego, the Giants and Padres flipped ballparks,
playing in the Bay now, where it was a nice back-and-forth battle.
Padres score, Giants score, Padres score, Giants score,
with Tyrell Estrada cranking one to left center to bring Matt Chapman all the way home to walk
it off, just like the Braves did after a really fun game in Atlanta.
Arizona jumped out 3-0.
Braves make it close, but end up down 2-9, and that's when the boys went to business.
The D-backs had this game in the palm of their hands, messing up a potential pop-up
out to tie the game for Atlanta, with Travis Darno smacking one over Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
and left to walk off the home opener.
So much fun.
What isn't fun is the news we got about Spencer Strider after the game,
as his elbow didn't feel great.
His fastball velocity was down.
More specifically, according to Codify Baseball on Twitter,
Spencer Strider has thrown over 3,600 fastballs in the big leagues,
and his last one in this game had more drop than all of the others.
So he will now be getting an MRI on that elbow.
So we're all worrying about Strider now, and then out of absolutely nowhere,
it's revealed that Shane Bieber is getting Tommy John surgery.
He didn't even hit the I need an MRI phase, Bieber's elbow just saw that Strider's elbow
was dealing with something and decided to one-up it and go straight to the operating table.
What a complete disaster.
And this is likely a topic I'll be covering in its own video sometime soon, but man.
At least the Braves still won their game,
beating the D-backs as snakes haven't choked this hard since this one.
Just like the Astros choked the ALCS last year to Texas,
and the Rangers just continued rolling in their first matchup since.
Even with the game being in Arlington, where the Rangers could barely win last year in October,
the Rangers pummeled Houston last night.
Adolis Garcia hit a pop-up to the second baseman that miraculously went out for a home run.
The best second baseman in the AL West went deep to put up the 10 spot for Texas.
Houston hasn't had this rough a time since the filming of RoboCop 2,
and for our seventh walk-off of the night,
the Brewers' offense picked up the Brewers' pitching that tried
everything they possibly could to lose the game.
It's interesting, because typically you want to pitch well and hold leads to win games,
but Milwaukee had a different strategy tonight,
and I honestly respect it.
It worked out for them.
Every time you have a lead, give up that lead,
and then just stand up there and take every goddamn pitch,
because Andres Munoz definitely had no interest throwing strikes.
Just like the Oakland A's have no interest being a real baseball team,
going on to miraculously play a tight game in Detroit
for the Tigers' home opener before they eventually went on to win.
And just to make sure you're still paying attention,
yes, I did say that Marcus Samian was the best second baseman in the AL West,
and that's obviously a joke.
Altuve is better, but this was a test to see how quickly
someone will run to the comments and yell before the video's over.
Did you pass? Let me know in the comments.
Is it just me, or does it feel like,
well, besides the fact that you should subscribe to this very channel
you're watching right now if you haven't already,
that Michael Kopik on the White Sox has been pitching every single game for them?
I know he's a reliever, so he'll be out there more days than a starter,
but I legit feel like every time I turn on a White Sox game, he's pitching.
And whatever it is, it's clearly not helping, with the Royals winning 2-1.
Anthony Rendon got a warm welcome back home in Anaheim for the Angels home opener,
and by warm welcome I mean thousands of pitchforks on fire that Angels fans had ready for him,
booing him mercilessly as he was announced,
and then booing him more when he struck out.
Rendon remained hitless this season until later in the game when he
legged out an infield single, and the Anaheim crowd cheered like it was 2002.
You would have thought Shouyo Tani re-entered,
and Superman himself flew down and announced his signing with the Angels, but no.
It was just Anthony Rendon beating out a soft grounder that he so hoped he'd get thrown out on,
just as much as I hope for the baseball gods to stop cursing this ever-forsaken game.
A game that was fun to watch until every other Red Sox player decided to just drop and die.
That wasn't fun.
Trevor Story, who's worked so incredibly hard to come back healthy,
injures his left shoulder diving on a play.
Even Andrew McCutcheon had to chime in and be like, damn.
And then Rafael Devers later gets hit on the hand with a pitch,
although he did stay in the game, but jeez.
Sidane Rafaela also had the same situation as Rafi,
getting hit and delaying the game because of the pain, but staying in.
I don't know what was in the air during this game, but my god, the injury bug was flying,
but not as much as home run balls were, specifically for Boston.
Red Sox hit back-to-back homers in the second inning,
then three batters later hit their third, Logan O'Hoppy hit a game-tying grand slam,
before the Red Sox eventually cracked two more solo homers,
capped off by O'Neal's second of the game, and the Red Sox win.
Never ask a woman her age, a man his salary,
or Bryce Harper where he played from 2012 through 2018.
I have never seen a player want to disassociate himself
with a past team as passionately as he does with the Nationals.
Harper has embraced Philly, which is awesome,
but it's just funny how far he goes to almost seem like he was born and raised there,
and has no idea that Washington D.C. exists.
Bros like Washington D.C.? What's a National?
All I know is cheesecakes, Rocky Balboa, and being an absolute lunatic.
I'm a Philly boy at heart.
Gotta respect it, just like you gotta respect the fact that Harper is back.
He started off the year hitless through a few games, yet all of a sudden
has his season batting average around .300 and his OPS at like .1100.
Schwarber drives in a couple, Philly pitching does great, and shuts out the Nats.
The Orioles and Pirates sat down together and collectively agreed that if anyone was gonna score,
just hit a homer when nobody is on base.
That's basically what happened other than the two runs the Orioles scored in the seventh,
because Adley Rutschman and Anthony Santander are incredibly selfish and had to break the track.
They should be ashamed.
And I would also say the same for Elsa from Frozen,
but then again I do think it's pretty cool we got some baseball played in the snow.
I mean, look at this.
We got our second cruise missile of the year,
but unfortunately a bunch of frickin' little orange birds hit the Pirate ship
with enough missiles of their own to spoil Pittsburgh's home opener,
something the Dodgers tried to do in Chicago, but failed.
Shohei Ohtani had never played a game at Wrigley Field before,
so he said that's cool and hit his first home run there and second of the season,
but Dansby Swanson went off, so did San Suzuki who drove in three runs.
The Cubs have several hitters jumping out the gate hot this year,
as their offense gave it to the Dodgers as rough as Chicago's violent crime rates.
But enough of that.
You can only talk about a city with so much crime and homelessness for so long,
so let's go over to New York City, where the Yankees said,
please beat us, Canada.
Please, we'll do anything.
Here, take this.
Here, here's another one.
Marcus Strowman did great in his first Yankee stadium outing,
but the Yankees' offense didn't do nothing, losing 3-0,
so Strowman naturally called every single one of his teammates racist for not helping him out.
That did not happen, but some of you believed it for a second, and I don't blame you.
We got a full slate of games on this wonderful Saturday, I'll see you tomorrow.
