How Do You Want To Feel?

We’re so used to asking “What will I do next?” — but maybe the better question is, “How do I want to feel?”
Whether it’s retirement or just a new chapter, your next steps should come from who you want to become — not just what you want to achieve.
Ask yourself: What do I want to feel more of in this season of life?

I was talking to a friend the other day about his upcoming retirement and he said to me,
I keep asking myself, but what will I do all day? I don't know what I'll do all day. What will I do?
Which is such a normal question to ask for any of us that have lived our life doing.
And then we face the prospect of not doing those things anymore. And those doings are what drove
us, got us up on a morning, gave us a sense of meaning and identity and so on, so on.
But I said a better question maybe to ask yourself, isn't what will I do? But how do I
want to feel? How do you want to feel in this next season of your life? It may not be retirement,
maybe another season of your life that was dawning for you. And you're facing the same
questions that there's crossroads. But what will I do? I've done this for the last 10,
20 years. What will I do? How do you want to feel? And if you can identify how you'd like to feel
in your new days ahead, I'd like to feel more peaceful. I'd like to feel less anxious. I'd like
to feel more playful. I'd like to feel more present. Whatever it is you would like to feel
more of, reverse engineer that into things you can begin to do now to put yourself into the space
where those energetic feelings live. To uncouple from the drivers that keep moving you away from
the feelings you want and start uncoupling from the attachment to those things and your servitude
to them, your enslavement often to them. I think about how do I want to feel? And if I want to feel
these things in this next season of life, who do I need to become? What do I need to let go of?
What thinking do I need to change and narratives do I need to deconstruct in order to allow those
feelings to come up in me on a more regular basis? How do you want to feel in this next
season of your life is maybe a better question to ask for you to know what comes next rather than
what am I going to do in this next season of my life? Remember, I've said this many times before,
I'll say it again here. The next thing comes out of the next you. The leading edge of the
progress of your life shouldn't be things. It should be your identity, who you are becoming,
who you want to be in that space should determine whether that space is in alignment for you or not.
Don't keep doing without considering, is who I want to be going to be served in that new space
or not? And if not, rethink it. How do you want to feel in this next season of your life is a great
question to ask yourself. Hope that helps. Cheers.
