But we begin with that Action News exclusive.
We're getting a look inside a place where cameras rarely get to go,
Philadelphia's Mobile Command Center.
Yeah, it is where the Office of Emergency Management oversees Philadelphia's response to major events
like that deadly medical jet crash, the I-95 collapse, and of course this year's winter storm.
But this is also the hub for celebratory events in Philadelphia,
from America's 250th celebrations to the FIFA World Cup.
Action News' Maggie Kent got to tour that facility exclusively today.
She joins us now live with a look inside. Maggie.
Well, Ryan and Sarah, we of course have been dealing with this deep freeze here,
and there's a lot of problems that you may not think about because of it.
They are dealing with all those issues and, of course, prepping 24-7 for anything that may come up,
and that includes all of the America 250 celebrations.
We take you inside the OEM warehouse today.
And we're actually on the city's mobile command post. It's called Command Post 1.
An exclusive inside look at the Office of Emergency Management's cash, tools, and equipment,
preparing for whatever may come.
To listen to all of the radio channels that are being used in an incident and to share that information in real time.
The Mobile Command Center was used in emergencies like the I-95 collapse and Northeast Medical helicopter crash.
It also protects revelers in good time.
It's out on the parkway for every July 4th.
OEM Director Dominic Morales is always anticipating.
It is a 24-hour-a-day job.
During this enhanced code blue, it means life-threatening conditions for the unhoused.
They're providing cold care kits at the expanded warming centers.
Getting anybody who's unhoused or particularly vulnerable, somewhere safe, somewhere warm during that extreme cold snap.
There were 12 fires across the city this weekend alone and eight fire deaths this year.
Unfortunately, we're on pace for a pretty high fire fatality year.
This is taken from the Philadelphia Fire Academy.
And monitoring the maritime activity in frozen rivers where a thaw could mean flooding.
Those very large, very heavy chunks of ice will move downriver, and so we're not out of this by any means.
The stockpiles are waiting for thousands of visitors for America 250 celebration, the World Cup, and MLB All-Star Game.
If we get some of those really hot days, people can still come out and celebrate,
but we're also trying to help them regulate their temperature, save them from ever needing medical assistance.
Yeah, and it doesn't matter what the weather is like out there.
OEM is asking everyone be prepared for at least three days inside your home.
That includes bottled water, shelf-stable food, blankets, and, of course, food for your pets as well.
Always good to have that on hand.
We're live on the Parkway, Maggie Kent, Channel 6 Action News, Sarah.
Best to be prepared, Maggie. Thank you.
