____________________
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts returned to Toronto's Four Seasons Centre Thursday night
after hoax bomb threats linked to the Chinese regime cut short its previous run there in March.
The Four Seasons Centre agreed to reschedule five shows this month,
with the opening show drawing a full house. Members of Parliament from across Canada
welcoming Shen Yun's return, and TD spoke with audience members after the performance.
Shane Performing Arts is back in Toronto at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
Theatregoers said the performance left a lasting impression.
But I was incredibly impressed by the talent of the dancers.
He has very high calibre and the special effects were so impressive.
But the way people would jump off the stage or jump off the screen and then back on
was really impressive as well. And the costumes were outstanding.
I think the element of divinity is absolutely terrific.
And the fact that it started out with the heavens and sending everybody down.
And of course, the cinematography and how they handled the computer work is just remarkable.
Founded in 2006, the New York-based company's mission is to revive China's traditional culture
from before communism. For more than two decades, Shane has faced repeated attacks,
including slash-tour bus tires to death threats and hoax bomb threats.
Earlier this year, six shows were cancelled in Toronto because of hoax bomb threats linked to
the Chinese regime. Despite this, the dance company persevered, with the theatre agreeing
to reschedule the shows. I hear that around the world,
people have been going through persecution over these productions. And our hearts feel
so much for them. And very brave, wonderful, well done.
Theatre-goers also said the performance carried a message that stayed with them.
But we've got to work together with value systems that are strong. Family values,
faith values, and so on. That's important. I think it's being presented well here,
in an art form. So there's a sense of the history of bringing things right up to date.
Shane continues at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto through June 28.
