Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Hollywood Burbank Airport has opened a modernized 355,000-square-foot terminal to improve safety and efficiency. This news broadcast also covers Los Angeles weather shifts, the 80th anniversary of the historic Smokehouse restaurant, local sports struggles, entertainment updates, and health advice regarding the body's limits on protein absorption.
Hey, there it goes.
The first plane rolling out of the brand new terminal
at Hollywood Burbank Airport.
Yeah, there we are.
On the taxiway there.
Well, let's get out to take off.
Let's get out to Gigi.
She has more on all this.
First plane rolling out, Gigi.
How exciting is this?
We've got Skyfox above Alaska Air.
Flight 3401.
Look at all the members of the media.
I'm going to ask photographer Armando.
It's going to be a little shaky.
Maybe we can go to our Skyfox shot.
And I'm told that the first flight
in to the new Hollywood Burbank Airport is actually 15 minutes early.
So we're going to get that, too, coming up.
But this is Alaska Flight 3401,
the pilot waving at everybody here on the ground as he makes history,
piloting the first flight out
of the new Hollywood Burbank Airport to Santa Rosa, California.
You can see it there in the distance.
I think we've got Stu up in Skyfox.
Maybe we can open up Stu's mic, too, and tell us what he's seeing.
This is history in the making, Stu.
Oh, thank you.
Oh, I didn't know that you were tossing it to me.
Yeah, you know what, Alaska,
we were wondering who was going to be first
because the Delta actually pulled out in front of the Alaska.
Alaska got the water, though, and that is the big one.
There he goes.
He's starting to roll.
That's going to be the first aircraft
to take off from the new Hollywood,
Burbank terminal out here in in Burbank
but yeah there she goes right there we're gonna watch it
it's gonna be a nice takeoff I am sure we got
a little bit of that orange glow in the background
but you know what right on time 7 a.m that's
when they allow this aircraft to start taking off
this is going to be the first one right there you got
the Delta right behind it and American
right behind that as well all on their scheduled flights gears up
and they are on the roll there
it goes for sure. That first flight, inaugural,
so blessed to be here to watch something like
that. It's one of the reasons why I love doing news.
Sending it back to you all in the studio.
On its way to Seattle, apparently, Stu, the
first flight there from Alaska Airlines.
They still have to do that. It doesn't change the
way they take off from this airport, right?
Because don't they have to kind of bank up
a little higher out of noise concerns there
for the neighborhoods in the Burbank area?
It is.
It's the same runway, same directions.
The only thing that would change that would be the winds.
And, of course, you know,
if you've taken off from Burbank, it is a ride.
When you take off, it is a very steep departure indeed.
And it is definitely, just as you've mentioned,
because of the neighborhoods below there.
Toluca Lake, North Hollywood, all of them,
we are blessed to have this big airport here.
and they work with the communities to make sure
that all their noise concerns are met all the time.
Another reason why, the airport is closed for a little bit,
opens at 7 a.m., allowing these jets to take off.
So, yeah, most definitely they have those noise restrictions,
and it is a very steep departure
when you're leaving the Burbank airport.
Well, let's get to Gigi because she's there on the tarmac
as American Airlines, I believe, number three to go.
You see Deltas right there.
Gigi, what's the vibe like on the tarmac for everybody?
Well, first of all, the tarmac is huge compared to the old airport,
or at least it seems that way.
There's so much space here,
and it really is all about space and modernization.
And there you see American Airlines there on the tarmac, too.
And over here, Armando.
Okay. We're going to stay on that American airline.
And we've got a lot of members of
the media sharing the space here with us this morning.
A lot of excitement. We've been talking
to passengers all morning long.
I don't know if we have the sound queued up. There goes Delta.
There's number two in the air.
And it is a picture perfect day for flying, as I'm sure Stu,
our eye in the sky can tell you.
Just a beautiful day for these takeoffs and flights that are
arriving in are actually arriving early this morning
and there you see another Alaska Air
Alaska Air getting ready to be the third plane
to take off we've seen Alaska the first to Santa
Rosa California and then American
and now another Alaska jet and i think we have sound
from probably the cutest passenger in the terminal
this morning sound with her mom take a listen
I headed home to Indianapolis.
Oh, have a safe flight.
What do you think of our new airport?
Well, are you familiar with the old airport?
Absolutely.
I used to come here all the time.
What do you think of the new airport?
It's gorgeous.
It's truly beautiful.
Long entrance area, but really nice airport.
What's your name?
Her name's Pigeon.
Pigeon?
Oh, my gosh.
Hi, Pigeon.
Oh, my God.
I got a pigeon kiss.
Brand new airport.
Big day today.
What do you think?
It's gorgeous.
It kind of looks like LaGuardia to me.
Like it's a...
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's definitely built out better than I thought it'd be.
Are you familiar with the old airport?
Yes, yeah.
I live about 15 minutes away, so.
Are you excited?
I'm very excited, yeah.
And that was the cutest passenger.
I hope you saw Pigeon the puppy.
Such a cutie.
Lot of excitement.
We're gonna continue following the flights out
and the flights in here
at the brand new Hollywood Burbank Airport.
Receiving, you know, they're calling it a makeover,
but really it is a new airport.
They didn't make over the old one from 1930.
I'm told that airport will be demolished
to make more room on the tarmac.
It'll all connect.
So I don't know if we can even see the old one from here.
I'm not sure exactly where it is.
I'll have someone point that out to me.
But I'm gonna, you've got a United airplane
getting ready to leave.
You have another Alaska Air Southwest
just pulling away from the gate.
So the hustle and bustle is well underway here
the Hollywood Burbank Airport.
I'll send it back to you. There goes American Airlines.
Yeah, there we go. First of all, you got us there on
Pigeon because we were expecting this.
I don't know why I was expecting a
toddler named Pigeon. But we agree with you, it is a cute,
cute passenger. We asked you before
because of all the changes here at the new terminal,
whether or not passengers were going to be able
to board the planes from the tarmac.
Do they walk out or do they have those walkways
that we have to go into now to board the flights?
In the distance, you can see folks boarding
that Southwest plane right now. So yes,
you still come out onto the tarmac to board. You can see folks
just boarding there in the distance.
So there's the answer to our question,
that old school feel about having to come out onto the tarmac
and go up the stairs.
And actually the rear stairs are also open.
I don't know if they want people to board there
because no one seems to be using them anyway.
Folks like to use the front door. But yeah,
there's your answer, Bob. They're boarding it that way.
We like both sides.
Yeah.
We like both sides.
That's right.
Yeah.
And then that one passenger mentioned,
I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed the way the old
terminal was. I did, it was charming, it was
not intimidating. You had that curbside check-in.
Simple, unrefined. It was so simple. So when you get this
larger terminal, you're wondering if it's still gonna have that same,
if you're gonna move through with the same speed as the old,
cuz it is a new terminal.
It's designed to move very quickly.
I was recently in Australia and the
airports there actually they're opening
a second airport uh this month up in Sydney Australia
they're very modern the first thing you
do and you're directed to do is to use the kiosk to
check in and we have the kiosks that uh
at the old Hollywood Burbank Airport but a lot of folks
prefer to go right up to the gate you can still
do that you can go right up to uh to the
representative and do your check-in that way
but this is all digital it's all brand new and it is
designed to move people through much faster
and now we're seeing another Alaska Air plane look at
the hustle and bustle look at the continuous uh air traffic
that we have out of Burbank it's
considered a small regional airport
but it is very very busy make no mistake about it it's small in
feel but it's it's it's bigger in volume you know i guess
the point being is we have to get with the
times. The world is changing, Bob, and we have to get used to it.
The last time I flew out of there, I was covering the Rose Parade.
I left the Rose Parade route,
and I was at the bar in less than an hour.
In less than one hour, that is how quick and
efficient the Hollywood Burbank airport was.
It's pretty great. It's my favorite airport
to fly out of. The Burbank to Vegas connection
is pretty easy. It's a party.
It's a big party. That's a classic, Jen.
Remember we used to get those drink tickets
That's right
But also the baggage claim
At the old terminal
You just exit that door
And you breeze right through
They have two baggage claims
You either go to A or B
And that was it
And then you walk out and you're in your car
You know Bob and Jen
An airport official
Was talking to me this morning
And he told me that the old Hollywood Burbank airport
has long been a thorn in the side of the FAA
because the terminal was so close to the runway.
Yeah. And it was a big concern and they were
really urging folks here to modernize their airport
and get the terminal away from being
so close to the runway and that's what they've done here.
And this is amazing because the
construction actually started in 2024.
So they got this done in under two years which
It is amazing that they were able to do all of this work,
355,000 square feet of brand-new airport.
Which makes you wonder if it took them, that's pretty good.
That was a pretty good, you know, they did that pretty fast.
In fast order.
Which makes you wonder what's going on with the people.
What's going on with the people mover?
I know.
It's delayed, Gigi.
And a billion dollars behind budget, over budget.
And that's just a people mover, right?
Yeah, exactly.
now we're just venting uh Gigi thank you
and that's just a people mover yep yep what a moment all
right all right we'll check Alaska Airlines first out
those first passengers leave their brand new
terminal there at Burbank be right back okay we're
not quite done with tropical storm Rachel
Long Beach begins extensive repair work along
the peninsula we have Mario joining us now
with more on that good morning Bob Jane good morning
this is around the time we see residents
here a little further inland from throughout the peninsula,
wake up and start to assess more of the
damage. We're on the boardwalk. I want to bring in Jana.
She came out with her dog, Lexi. Tell me
about what you're seeing here. What do you think?
How did the night go? We finally had a pretty
quiet night. Everyone took off except for the police on every corner,
just watching, make sure
we have no looters and so forth. But thank goodness it was quiet.
And we were talking about some of
the concerns that you have for some of the homes here
that you know we see they're boarded up some
of them have been red tagged I think over 13 structures
that have been red tagged sure yeah we're
just concerned and um just questions about what happens
with those homes uh will they put a fence
around them will they take them down immediately
if they do where does the water go when it comes
over the wall um so those are our concerns
and and also concerns for the people who are living
in those homes. Many of them are friends
and just wonderful neighbors who've been here for a long
time. Yeah I know LA County Supervisor Janice
Hahn proposed some tax relief for some of these
homeowners but I mean you have to think about how much damage
that they're actually. Yes exactly
it's devastating and and many
of them amazingly have really good attitudes and just want to move
forward. And what have you seen
from from the community out here along the peninsula? Oh my
goodness so our neighborhood is so tight all weekend long really
for the last two weeks since
labor day weekend neighbors helping neighbors
building sandbags boarding up walls i'm just
helping wherever they can helping people move out of their homes
and jenna we're looking down the
way at some of the sand berm here that's being rebuilt oh my gosh
so this is exciting news i um
i talked with the company this morning they're here
because they're going to start dredging
and building out our beach, and I believe that starts on the 19th.
So we'll be seeing a lot of them.
So excited to see them here today.
Yeah, and they're bringing in sand from the Alamitos Bay area,
so they need lots of it, but it gets washed away pretty quickly.
Yes, but we're praying that this is going to help.
This is going to do the trick.
Thank you, Jana. Appreciate it.
So we've been watching this part of the coastline very closely.
Let's go ahead and check in on the forecast with Maria Coban.
Hi, Maria.
Hi, Mario.
So, yeah, you just feel for them.
Hopefully, they're also looking ahead
to the season that's coming, right?
We're talking about El Nino and some of the really busy,
busy season we are looking ahead to.
So, yeah, definitely looking forward to some changes there for them.
All right, good morning to you.
We are talking about some changes in our weather pattern again.
Right now, we're enjoying sort of a cooler start to our Tuesday.
Mario's got his jacket on.
Make sure you grab that jacket for the kids
because temperatures are chilly.
this morning. Winds are mostly light,
a little bit of a sea breeze blowing. However, the winds
are going to be a big factor in our upcoming weather pattern,
especially as we head into the
end of this week with some stronger gusty Santa Ana winds.
And that's going to help not just clear
out the cloud cover, but really warm
our temperatures right back up to almost where
they were last week, well above normal.
Right now it's chilly. It's 48 degrees in Pasadena,
so definitely jacket, sweatshirt, hoodie weather.
55 in downtown LA, 54 in Santa Monica. Out in
Long Beach is just reaching 55, 28 in Big Bear.
I mean, this is a while since I've seen it reach below freezing.
So it's chilly up there right now, 59 in Palm Springs.
That area of low pressure that brought us the rain,
gave us some good rain totals over the last three days.
I'll go over those numbers in just a bit.
But high pressure is going to start
to build behind that low pressure system.
In fact, it's going to be the difference
in pressure between high pressure over the Great Basin,
lower pressure offshore is going to drive
those winds once again out of the northeast and that
just helps to warm up the atmosphere especially
as you get closer to the coast so expect those
very warm temperatures Thursday Friday into this upcoming weekend
and those winds peaking
into strength Thursday and Friday
so I suspect those wind advisories will be going into effect
in the meantime really pleasant conditions today
so you want to enjoy it maybe do that run that
workout out there this morning,
and even for the greater part of today, as highs will range
anywhere from 76 in the low desert, 69 in the high desert areas.
The Big Bear Mountains,
48 degrees for that temperature later this afternoon.
71 along the coast to that 72 for
downtown LA, so it's feeling like fall outside
with plenty of sunshine this afternoon. I'll go
over the rest of the forecast and those winds again
in just a few moments. In the meantime,
Let's go up to Stu in Skybox.
Good morning to you, Stu, on this Tuesday.
Hey, good morning, Maria.
First time we get to speak in the 7 o'clock.
Wow, it is getting late.
Skybox Traffic's brought to us by My Home Sold.
Made our way over to the 5 Drive.
That's headlights right there.
Those are going to be southbound coming down through the Newhall Pass.
The ride looking pretty good here.
Northbound looking fantastic.
Clearly, we were just in Burbank.
We flew it, I'm telling you, north and southbound.
that five drive, even in those trouble spots.
Over there by Pacoima, it is actually looking
pretty good right now.
It's going to be a fantastic drive indeed. Hotspots, we're going
to share those with you right now.

Welcome back to the past 80 years.
The Smokehouse restaurant in Burbank has been serving up steaks,
martinis and a generous helping of Hollywood history. Bob Hope
and Bing Crosby were among
the guests on opening night. All these years later,
the Smokehouse is still going strong.
This place is magical, it really is. It has
um, give a lot of opportunity for generations of
employees and also to our customers
and people from the industry. It still has the uh essence of
all Hollywood glamour.
Over eight decades, just about anyone
who was anyone in Hollywood seems to
have passed through these doors.
Inside Burbank's Smokehouse restaurant,
the walls are covered with autographs,
celebrity photographs, turning
dinner into something of a walk through a
Hollywood museum.
I personally
have Ron Howard
who gave me his picture and he
signed it for us, so we have it
right there.
And, you know, we're just waiting for the rest
of the family to bring their pictures.
There's a special tribute to the Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra,
whose name still lives on through the restaurant's Steak Sinatra.
George himself sits here.
And tucked away in a quiet corner is table 29,
better known around here as George Clooney's favorite booth.
We even have his picture right here.
I think it's kind of funny
because it would not be the booth that I would pick.
I'd like the one kind of like in the middle of the room
and to see all the action.
And this is kind of out of the way.
And that tucked away atmosphere is part
of the appeal for Hollywood power players
who have long come here to make deals over lunch.
When they want to come and have the special meetings,
they know they're not going to be interrupted,
so they can just dedicate the time to have lunch,
but at the same time deal with different projects.
And Hollywood hasn't just dined here, it's filmed here too.
The Smokehouse has appeared in productions including La La Land,
Argo, and The Studio, to name a few.
Its signature red booths have become almost
as recognizable as some of the stars who have sat in them.
Booths, yeah. They stood the test of time.
But for generations of customers,
the biggest star may be what comes out of the kitchen.
Prime rib and New York steaks remain among the biggest sellers.
And then there's the restaurant's legendary cheese garlic bread,
which has developed a fan club all on its own.
Some customers even have it shipped across the country.
Unfortunately, I cannot share the secret recipe.
The bar is keeping a few old-school traditions alive, too.
Order a martini, and it comes with a sidecar,
a little extra something to keep the good times flowing.
It was like having pretty much like two drinks in one.
The recipe for success may sound simple,
but the Smokehouse says it comes down to doing
the same things well year after year.
Consistency. Consistency in our menu, in our food.
after 80 years the Smokehouse continues
to prove you don't have to be a Hollywood star
to get the star treatment anyone could walk
in we want to make sure that they have a place
and continually thinking that it's
their favorite place oh man if those walls could talk what do
you think they would say oh there'd be a lot there'd
be a lot especially in those corner
booths yeah yeah where all the deals go down they could see almost like
a thousand people in there
I was a lot. It's huge. I went inside.
I'm like thinking, wow, this is a big place.
I mean, it's right across. It's in Burbank.
It's right across from Warner Brothers Studios.
So, yeah, you do have like a lot of celebrities and people
in production going on their lunch breaks over the smokehouse.
So they had a huge party last night celebrating 80 years.
Wow. Congrats on 80 years. Congratulations to them. Amazing.
Be right back.
Good day, L.A. 730
on this Tuesday.
This Tuesday. Yeah. Let's get to me with a look at the forecasts.
I was thinking we've had last week like extreme heat
then we had rain and finally
nice and cool beautiful day today I think today
is one of the it's like a perfect day uh-huh not
too hot not too cool it's going to be slightly below the average
so it's kind of in that perfect
range so whatever you have planned out there today I think it'll
be um pardon me a good day
to do it we've got some chilly temperatures
though to start our Tuesday we've got mostly
fair skies and that means
and will translate to really chilly temperatures this morning so grab
that jacket for sure that area of low pressure
that brought us the rain uh yesterday even in
many spots still spinning you can see
that counterclockwise spin here over Nevada bringing
some snow up towards the Rockies
and Utah we had some good snowfall amounts and some of the
mountain locations up there in the Rockies one
to even two uh feet of snow with some of the high
high elevation. So I'm sorry,
a couple of inches of snow at the high elevations. And this is just
a good indication of where we're going this season,
perhaps with our wintry weather that
we're looking to. In the meantime,
67 degrees was the high we got to yesterday. Compare that with
what we saw last week, 104, with those record-breaking temperatures.
So what a big contrast.
And then we got some rain as well the last couple of days.
So really nice, 6 100th of an inch of
rain yesterday, 3 100th the day before.
So this is all good at helping to mitigate the fire danger.
We do have some gusty Santa Ana winds we're expecting,
which will dry us out and increase
that fire danger. But this all helps.
Big Bear Lake last three days, over three inches. Temecula,
almost two and a quarter inches of rain.
Beaumont, two and a half. Palm Springs, over an inch.
And Laguna Beach, almost seven tenths of an inch of rain.
We still have that coastal flood advisory
for a couple more hours or so until about 2 p.m. this afternoon.
Still got some of the bigger waves,
Of course, rolling in, but that combined with the high tide, still
contributing to the coastal flooding and some of that beach erosion.
But 72 is what we're expecting today.
Really pleasant, just below the average of 79
for downtown L.A. and our sunset later this evening at 6:21.
All right, let's go back and get another update on our traffic outside.
It is back to school for many, of course, so a
A little bit busier down below, I'd imagine.
Yep, maybe that is it.
Maybe not, Maria.
But I can tell you, you've got the busy portion correct.
We're in love with that 5 drive today.
We're back again.
This time we're in the Santa Clarita area.
The taillights you see right there, those are climbing the hill,
getting up into that Newhall Pass before you drop down
into the San Fernando Valley.
A lot of slowing right there.
But from the 126 to this location, it's actually looking pretty good.
Northbound from the Newhall Pass out to the 26 and the Grapevine,
wide open, moving well.
We're going to send it back to y'all in the studio.
Good morning.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Let's get to breaking news this morning.
President Trump's ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle,
has been asked to resign amid allegations of misconduct.
The Wall Street Journal has reported claims involving improper gifts,
private travel, and an offer of administration access
in exchange for helping pay a $100,000 credit card bill.
Guilfoyle is the president's son's former fiance,
the former wife, the ex-wife of Governor Gavin Newsom.
Her lawyers deny any wrongdoing.
The State Department's inspector general
is reportedly looking into these allegations.
Let's get to the NLCS because the Dodger fans,
we know you're feeling a little bit uneasy this morning.
A little bit. Game two of the NLCS was tied going
into the sixth inning, but that is when Milwaukee just took control.
Brutal.
What are you going to do?
That was the final score.
So the Dodgers are now down two zip in the best of seven series
and will host game three tomorrow.
Believe it or not, there are reports manager Dave
Roberts may actually bench the struggling Shohei Ohtani.
There are reports that that could be happening.
We'll have to see, though.
Game time is at 5 p.m.
All right, so the Rams played a wild one last night at SoFi.
It wasn't a good night in L.A. sports.
It was not.
uh this was a high scoring game against the Bills
and decided in overtime both kickers had a chance
to win it we have
to relive all
that what's happening
with our L.A. sports
teams here uh the
Bills come away with 37 to 34 wins so the Rams are now two
and three after being early preseason
favorites to make it to the Super Bowl Coach Sean McVay
was not happy after the game this one is
this is the one, this stings, and
it's going to hurt, but we can't afford to let
it, we can't let this team beat us twice,
and we're going to have to regroup and reset
ourselves, and it's been a while since I've been
this pissed after a game too.
Only
two teams in NFL history
have won the Super Bowl after a
2-3 start in the regular season.
We're talking about the Oakland Raiders, back
in 1980, and the 2001 New England Patriots
with their new
young quarterback at the time,
Tom Brady. To be clear, though, they lost
in overtime. Okay.
As long as they didn't give him a fight, they lost
in overtime.
It's still so early in the season. It is early.
And, you know, the Chargers haven't even won a game yet.
What do we have to bring them?
Just really reaching for the silver lining
there. Let's go, Rams. Yeah.
Amanda's off today, but we have you covered in the
entertainment department. It's sponsored by
Yavapai Resort and Casino. Christopher Nolan's
The Odyssey is heading home with
an extra look at how the epic came
to life.
have to do Bob pay close attention
Odysseus Odysseus Odysseus
Universal says The Odyssey
will be available to buy on digital 4K
and Blu-ray on November 17th, Matt Damon leads the
all-star cast in the adaptation
of Homer's legendary tale alongside Anne Hathaway, Robert
Pattinson, Tom Holland and Zendaya
the home release includes over 90 minutes of special features
with behind-the-scenes looks at the massive sets,
fight sequences, and special effects.
Alas, I will not be watching the Odyssey on the big screen.
I tried to get tickets.
Oh, you really tried.
I tried, but I was too late.
And then you forgot about it?
Because you had plenty of time.
I think you just kind of forgot about it.
I'm just going to wait for it to come out.
In-N-Out doesn't have any way of getting their food delivered.
It's not stopping some big-paying fans
who want their double-double without leaving the couch.
According to LA Material, an underground
In-N-Out delivery market is growing in Southern California.
Drivers on Facebook Marketplace are reportedly charging up
to $50 extra to bring the cult favorite food to your door.
Buyer beware, one reporter paid a deposit and never got the burger.
The chain does not authorize delivery,
saying fresh food and customer service come first.
And that's the thing.
That's the thing.
So who are you going to get your money back from?
Right.
You're putting your money in somebody else's hands.
There's no way because In-N-Out does not authorize delivery.
And that's something the CEO, by the way,
says is never going to change.
Because it's not the same.
They say it's about the quality and the freshness.
If you're not getting it off the grill,
right out of the fryer, it's not going to taste the same.
I mean, they're smart.
And I will say.
You get burgers and fries from anywhere.
It's not going to taste the same.
Well, I understand the need because,
you know, In-N-Out does not deliver.
Okay, I get it.
And there's always a line at In-N-Out.
However, the line does move quickly.
It does.
In the depth of my experience.
Depending on the In-N-Out.
This is true.
Because some are busier than others.
And the time of day also.
Right.
That leads us to our poll question of the day.
Ready for this? All right, what's your favorite
locally born fast food chain?
Is it In-N-Out Burger, which by the way was
started in Baldwin Park, McDonald's,
Heralding from San Bernardino, Taco Bell from Downey,
Del Taco from Yermo.
Carl's Jr. based in Anaheim, okay?
Or is it Panda Express from Glendale?
Go to foxla.com slash vote.
Let us know.
Right now, so far, so far, we have In-N-Out is winning.
But you know what?
Close second coming in.
Carl's Jr.
I like a good, juicy burger.
Which is also, on these coasts, Hardee's.
Oh my gosh, that's right.
Didn't Hardee's also have the square bun?
I don't know.
No.
They had like the Frisco burger.
Was it?
Yeah.
It was like Texas toast.
Wendy's has a square burger, right?
They also, I don't know.
It might not be a patented thing.
By the way, that poll,
it's one of those ones where it should have had, why choose one?
That's true.
Because those are just.
Got to get them all.
Leave us a comment too.
All right, let's go over to Stu for a check on Traffic.
Stu, what's your favorite locally born fast food chain?
You know what? I am 100% Carl's Jr.
I was so stoked to hear that they were number two so far.
Carl's Jr., number one.
And you know what? As far as those long lines at In-N-Out,
they do always move quickly.
What's not moving quickly? That's going to be the 14.
That's where we are right now.
This traffic report brought to us by Jacobian Myers Injury Lawyers.
Got a big stall on a big bus, and it's creating big problems.
That's going to be on the carpool lane.
Newhall Pass, that's the southbound 14.
You're hitting the brakes from, and that'd be true,
I guess it is, from Golden Valley.
That is a long ways away.
It is very slow and go.
Only one lane taken away, but it's creating huge backup.
Keep this in mind if this is your drive this morning.
Southbound 14 right before the Newhall Pass.
You've got a big bus blocking that carpool lane,
but it's creating huge problems.
And if you're headed northbound, wide open, moving well.
Traffic hotspots, let's get to those right now.
If you've been injured in an accident,

Oh, look at this.
These ocean travelers are finally getting to head home.
I know they're big, right?
20 protected green sea turtles
were released into the waters off of Bali.
Authorities rescued them from a boat linked
to a suspect smuggling operation.
The turtles were checked out at a conservation center before being
carefully transported to the beach and returned to the ocean.
Two more turtles are still recovering
and will be set free once they're healthy enough.
The Smithsonian National Zoo wants
your help naming one of its new residents.
It's a red panda cub.
Look at this cutie.
The three options are Dolly.
That's it.
that's it. It's Dolly.
Do we need to go for more?
Obviously honoring Dolly Parton.
Pyra, it's after the Cubs
fiery red fur. That's kind of a nice
name though. Dolph,
Dolpa, it's a region
in Nepal known for
Red Panda Dolpa.
Red Panda conservation. I mean, that would make sense.
But come on. It's Dolly's year.
You can vote for your favorite on
the zoo's website. I bet Dolly's winning.
Yeah. Look at those eyes. How cute.
Oh, my gosh. Parents, if you thought that Southern California
traffic could not get any busier, well, get ready.
A new CarMax survey shows Gen Alpha teens
are incredibly eager to hit the road.
Look at this. You know what?
Let's go, kids.
I got one.
Really? So, yeah.
Gus is driving.
He's driving. He has his permit. He's driving.
Yes.
He wants to drive?
Wants to.
Excellent.
Unlike older Gen Z kids,
80% of today's 14 to 16 year olds want their license ASAP.
And here's the kicker, 95% can expect to have a car right away.
And 4 in 10 expect you to buy it for them.
Now, that's where I draw lines.
Experts say the first car experience can be a chance
to teach them real life lessons like budgeting,
vehicle safety, maintenance, gotta go in for maintenance.
And the true cost of keeping a car on the road.
How are you handling that, Maria?
I'm actually really kind of freaking out about it.
I bet.
He has had proper two driving lessons already with a professional.
And so I feel more comfortable being on the road with him.
And we did drive a little bit yesterday.
He's a pretty good driver.
Does he know how to parallel park?
No, no.
That's not even part of their testing anymore.
What?
Mm-hmm.
You don't have to learn how to parallel park?
No, that's been out for a while, apparently.
No kidding.
That was like one of the tenets of driver's ed back in the day.
They didn't even take you on the freeway, which is scary.
So he's going to have extra lessons, I said.
I wasn't asking how you were handling the driving.
I was wondering how you were handling getting him a car.
Oh.
Listen, kids can't buy it on their own.
No, not today.
So you're going to have to figure out like-
That's why I got a beater car.
I got a four-cylinder engine, my first ever car.
Yeah.
I had a Toyota Tercel.
Yeah, Geostorm.
We called it the Geo Scattered Showers
because it really wasn't worthy of being called a
So what's so what's the plan there? Just asking for Gus.
I actually do you have him on speed text right now
because he's wondering.
I'm not actually sure yet, Bob. To be honest,
we still have about a good six months to really talk about this.
You know, good, like mid range. Right. Make sure it's safe.
Got to make sure it's safe. Safety number one.
But also like, you know, you don't want to go too high end.
No, no. The value of a dollar here. We just can't afford that.
That's just the bottom line.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
We have to, yeah, it's something up for discussion.
We're going to talk about that.
In the meantime, I'm just, I do a lot of praying.
That's right.
Oh, my gosh, girl.
Okay, good morning to you.
I know you're getting the kids ready for school.
Make sure they have their sweatshirt
jacket because it is a chilly start.
This is the back of the Hollywood sign here
with the lake, Lake Hollywood.
We're looking at a pretty picture-perfect day, I think.
Good Day Late Weather is brought to you by My Home Sold.
If you are traveling today,
we are feeling the fall-like conditions here.
Maybe even a little wintry with the snow that fell yesterday.
Parts of Utah, Colorado,
up into Montana looking good for the upcoming snow season.
We had a dusting of snow up at the Mammoth.
I think the Mammoth Mountain Resort is going to open,
or at least that's the plan, a month from today.
So four weeks from today is their plan to open.
So we'll wait and see.
85 degrees in Detroit, got some wet weather pushing
into parts of the northeast of the New England states.
79 in Phoenix here in the desert southwest.
I do want to point out Hurricane Simon with winds of 90 miles an hour.
This system expected to ride into the Gulf of California here
and make landfall somewhere in Sinaloa.
So we're watching it's a pretty strong storm
as it enters the Gulf of California.
And then maybe getting into making landfall
with winds near 60, 65 miles an hour.
We're watching that closely as well as the next system
that's developing just behind Simon.
It will likely turn into the next tropical
storm here within the next 24 hours or so.
And it will be Trudy is what we'll be watching next.
Here's that area of low pressure that brought us
the rain, the snow up into the mountains.
We've got an area of high pressure behind it that's going to build.
So we're going to get that Santa Ana wind pattern starting
as early as tomorrow.
but really peaking Thursday,
Friday with those gusty winds out of the northeast.
That's going to dry things out and warm us up significantly
as we get to Thursday, Friday and this upcoming weekend.
Another low pressure drops in next week, Monday, Tuesday.
So that's good.
It'll break that pattern.
We're not going to be with the heat for too long,
but I do want to give you a heads up
on that and these really strong gusty winds.
Today, tomorrow, not bad.
But as we get to Thursday, Friday, we're talking about wind gusts here
increasing to 30, 35, even 40 miles per hour.
when we get it in that range,
that's going to pose some problems, of course, hazardous
conditions with driving and some debris flying around.
So you want to just keep that in mind
as we get to the end of the week and the weekend.
Morning high tides still getting up to 7.1,
7.3. That's going to cause some coastal flooding still,
some beach erosion that combined with the
surf heights nearing 3 to 5 to even 3 to 6 plus feet.
So please be extra mindful of that along
the coast. The good news
is that coastal flood advisory should expire this afternoon. Things
will calm down just a little bit 71 along
the coast today look at how it jumps up to the upper
80s by friday that's the result of the offshore flow
the warming effects of that Santa Ana wind
72 for downtown la today 87 on thursday 90s as we get
into friday are we going to stay pretty dry
and pretty hot to at least monday of next week 77 in the valleys
and the Inland Empire jumping to
the 90s by the end of this week and the weekend 48
though up in big bear that's chilly we'll get
up to the upper 50s by Thursday and those winds really strong.
The mountains below the
canyon passes, you know the drill
when we get these winds out of the northeast. 69 in
the high desert to 81 on Friday.
We'll stay in those 80s through the extended outlook.
76 in the Coachella Valley to 89 on Friday
with some breezy conditions driving out there
to the Coachella Valley. All right,
let's do some TV shout outs because we have some
cuties here. We want to wish Joseph a happy 11th birthday.
You look so cute in your glasses.
I love it.
Your mom, Laura, sent us this photo of you.
Hope you have a nice day at school and a happy birthday.
And then a happy 55.
Looking good.
Look at this.
I don't have your name, but I know you're a fantastic mom
because your kids sent us this photo.
Darian and Jaden, look at that.
Happy 55 birthday.
You're a kid.
Keep those pictures coming.
All you have to do is email them to us, tvshoutouts at fox.com.
Make sure you give us their name.
A little tidbit of info.
I'll send it back to you.
Oh, thanks, Maria.
Protein is being added to more and more foods these days,
but how much do we really need?
For like the protein maxing, right?
You're getting your macros in.
I do a lot of protein.
You do a lot of protein maxing with your
hard-boiled eggs in the morning, I know.
Nutrition experts say there is a breaking point,
though, where it becomes a waste.
Ted Linder has more.
For those with healthy living on the mind,
a nutritious diet is usually important.
But with the growing trend of protein being added
to just about everything, from cookies to coffee,
Laura Coates of Auburn University says there's only
so much protein our bodies can handle at a time.
The recommended intake is about 25 to 40 grams in one sitting.
Once we reach that threshold of what we can actually utilize protein
to create hormones, to build muscle,
it is either one going to be stored as fat, and then
the other component of it, so protein has a nitrogen component to it.
That nitrogen, because it can't be utilized,
and nitrogen also can't be used as the energy source,
it's going to be excreted in our urine.
But Coates says people should find a balance for their protein intake
by also making sure they get enough, especially as we age.
As we age, our bodies tend to not be able to synthesize
or create muscle protein as well,
and we also will degrade more muscle protein.
She suggests getting protein from real foods like chicken,
eggs, fruits, and vegetables.
You're chewing them, you're seeing them, you're smelling the food,
so that allows for hormones to respond to our diet so we're eating,
so they can be more, they're just better digested for us.
Coates says supplements are not a bad thing for those who need them,
but people getting a good whole diet probably don't.
I'm Ted Linder, Fox News.
That's exactly right.
People who get a good, well-balanced diet do not need the supplements.
So like the one-a-days, the multivitamins,
if you're getting through your diet already,
you have healthy levels of all the vitamins.
If you buy a multivitamin, you're just buying very expensive urine.
Okay, Dr. Lammers, appreciate it.
Hey, listen, I might not be a doctor,
but I have one in the house, okay?
Point taken, point taken.
I do do the fiber gummies, though.
Oh, yeah?
Fiber gummies.
Oh, yeah.
They're like fiber.
At your age, it's necessary. Yeah
Works well.
I'm sure it does.
That's why you're always off the desk for those commercial breaks.
Turn to something else.
Be right back.
