Well, lucky for Brewers fans,
there is still more baseball left as we're headed to the World Series.
And we know that Brewers fans are pretty locked
in every time the crew takes the field.
And they don't ever leave the TV screen sometimes.
Matt Gibbons, owner of Physical Therapy, helped greatly, by the way.
This is in Waukesha.
Okay, so this is so timely because of what we've
been experiencing the past couple of days.
If you're anything like me, I just stay glued to the TV
and rarely get up unless I have to use the restroom.
I never really get up to do that even if it's a good game.
Yeah, yeah, or another beer.
So, we can all relate.
So, why is it important, though, for fans not to stay glued,
to get up and stretch a little bit, have some movement,
get the blood flowing, the importance of that?
Yeah.
Well, you know, the players are out there.
They're moving.
They're having fun.
And so, it's important for you to move, too, get a little exercise.
And the seventh inning stretch is a great tradition, right?
But your body would really appreciate it if you get up
and move a little bit more often than that.
You know, throw a couple of the other innings in there, too.
but it's important because when we sit still we stiffen up in our back
and our hips and everything
else and arthritis loves immobility that's
when it comes on people people think that it's because
of all the hard work they did in life
and they did work hard possibly but when they sit still
they don't lubricate the joints and that's
when arthritis hits and so that could be exacerbated
by sitting for a game that's you know three three
and a half maybe four if there's extra
innings, even longer. We hit some games that went double last year.
So what are some stretches that you can do during the seventh inning
stretch or really any time throughout the game at home that might
be a little bit more than just standing up? Right, sure. So we've
come up with four different stretches you can
do to kind of hit different parts of the body with
the baseball theme here. So one is just,
we're going to call it the slugger stretch,
slugger shoulder stretch, so just bring one arm across your body.
I think we're going to join you here.
I took off the sport coat so I could
be a little more loose and not so limited, sir.
You know, grab the elbow and just pull it across.
And then while you're there, it feels good.
Feeling right in here, huh?
Yeah, big time.
It's really nice.
And then you can just rotate your body a little bit to get more to it.
Kind of stretch out the whatever this is called.
Yeah, your QL, quadratus lumborum.
There you go.
Okay, now we can do it the other way.
Yep, you want to go both ways.
Okay.
I think what I like about this, too,
is it's not like super distracting either.
You're not like flailing your arms everywhere.
It's it's pretty contained, you know,
if you're packed into the ballpark and do it at the game
You can do it at home, you know
So these pretty good stretches for folks who typically are mostly
immobile like maybe our senior citizens who need a little more
Practice with that perhaps some they can be for anyone,
you know, so and like another one here is
Called the catcher's chest opener. Okay, it's
Depending on what your shoulder mobility is.
You can just do go here and just lift it up
Okay, and that just opens up your shoulder
That feels great.
I'm like, why don't we do this more often?
Well, we spend so much of our life with everything in front of us.
Our phones, we're eating, we're driving,
and we get here, so this opens up.
But if you have more shoulder mobility, you can go up here with it.
Or sometimes people just need to brace on their neck and do it.
And that's something that can be done sitting down, too.
The back of the chair is a good way to extend over that.
We should probably get used to these because we sit
for a longer period of time in the chairs.
What we want to do is we call it reversing the curves.
Our curve gets here, we want to reverse it.
Reversing.
What is this? Is the second standing stretch?
What's that one?
The steel second standing stretch?
Well, what we have here is to stretch out the hip flexors.
Cool.
We're going to, okay, let's do it.
So I always like to have something to balance on so that people
who might have balance issues.
So you just hold onto a chair, put one foot forward,
and then you're going to just bring your hips forward
until you feel a stretch in that back.
Oh, like a little lunge situation.
Okay.
Yeah, exactly.
You look great.
You look...
I also like to call this the first baseman stretch
because you see that first baseman stretching out there.
Yeah.
I noticed if you go to a game early, which I never do.
Yeah, neither do I.
But you can see the guys out stretching in the field before
and they do a lot of like hip openers and stuff.
There's something to this.
There is.
And I run and I can tell when my hips are tight.
Yeah.
If I don't stretch like I should before running,
like i can feel it before and after yeah all
the time in the sauna i was thinking i'd do that
i'd take the last one the closer stretch okay
for the pictures right okay so again if you have a
chair something to hold on to flexing forward
and then reaching across the body great for the back
and the hip because we really haven't done anything
that's going to get that loosen up so
we're like oh wow i kind of felt
that one first right i don't know if i'm doing it right sir no
Okay. Okay. Wow. Okay. Thank you.
So those are kind of hit everything, you know. Full body
stretches. That's right. And these are stretches too.
I think you can do that again. They're
different stretches. It's not like you're there like.
Being obnoxious with it. Fair. Overdoing
it. Right. You're not doing a downward dog in the aisles.
Right. And there's always adaptations for
different people, different abilities,
but that's where you come in. If you need something different,
come in and see. I bet that if we do this,
we will feel the difference. I like to think so,
Especially as you get older.
I mean, we're not as nimble as we used to be at 18, 17 years old.
So I feel like this is like paramount to good health.
So instead of doing the seventh inning
stretch during wake-up, we'll do the 7 a.m.
Exactly.
That would be good for us.
Thank you.
For folks at home who might want to learn more about physical
and the services that you provide, where can they do that?
Yeah, so they can go to www.physical.com backslash Waukesha
or just the main site.
We'll put in the location and it'll find us there.
262-349-9297 and that's our phone number.
Matt Gibbons, thank you so much.
Go Brewers.
Pleasure.
There we go.
There we go.
All right, and on that note,
we're going to continue celebrating during the break.
Stretching.
But we sure will be stretching.
We'll see you on the other side all loose.
