For the first time in almost a year,
another body has been found in Lady Bird
Lake and it raises the question.
Was this an accident?
Austin PD is investigating,
but not as a homicide.
For years, many have wondered whether or not
these reoccurring drowning cases are from a serial
murderer. A September 2025 study between Texas State
University and the Police Department shows there were
189 drowning cases from 2004 to 2025.
25. But after reviewing 54 of those cases,
it showed no evidence of a serial murderer.
We found that there were no indications of a serial killer.
We found that the number of
drownings are consistent with historical frequencies
of drownings in Austin, but also
comparable to Texas generally.
Data obtained by Fox 7 shows from 2022 to 2025, deaths have mainly
been attributed to accidental drownings,
drug overdoses, and natural causes. One murder was
documented during that time,
and about half a dozen of those cases remain unknown. The victim's
identity has not yet been released, but again,
this is an ongoing investigation, and we will
keep you updated online with the latest.
