The first day of early voting
and Williamson County voters wasted no time.
And the more, the longer you wait, the more people are voting.
So then we want people to vote.
At the county's 25 polling locations,
thousands waited in line to cast their ballot.
So far today, we have a very good turnout
of about 13,500 voters at two o'clock.
That number was only expected to grow on track
to surpassing 2022's 15,000 voters on the first day.
The turnout was especially evident at Round Rock's Brushy Creek
Community Center, where the wait time was nearly an hour.
Were you at all kind of surprised by what you saw?
Was this a little bit of a shock to you maybe?
A little bit.
After seeing more than 50 people lined up outside,
Sunil Kumar decided to cast his early vote another day.
Usually not long at all, maybe waiting 5-10 minutes,
but I did not think it would be this much.
While others thought it was more bearable.
It wasn't that long of a wait. I think they said it was 45 minutes,
but I don't think we were there for 45 minutes.
For the rest of the county, it was smooth sailing
with several locations showing wait times of less than 15 minutes.
We've expanded our early voting locations. This is our high watermark.
So we have 25. We typically run about 20 early voting locations.
And so we also recruited extra poll workers.
With all eyes on the tightly watched race for governor and U.S. Senate,
many understood the weight that Monday's vote carried.
It is amazing some of the national attention.
Usually it's Texas is a foregone conclusion.
So this is one of the states that it has been coming up.
I know we are front and center, for sure, but I'd vote no matter what.
I mean, whether it was the way it is now
or it was something a little bit less significant, I'm going to vote.
