WEEK AS A MED STUDENT (ob_gyn night shift; HALLOWEEN SPECIAL).
Hello everybody.
So welcome to another weekly vlog with moi.
So this week is gonna be really exciting
because I work the night shift and OB.
I'm really excited about that
because I don't know, I'll be working all night
and it should be spooky and crazy
and this is the week of Halloween.
So I don't know, I'm just really excited.
I don't have work until 9.30
and it's like four, three o'clock.
So I'm going to go unwind at the mall right now
and then I'm gonna come home, study,
and then go to work at 9.30.
So come along with me.
I don't know how or when,
but I got this giant crack on my windshield
that has just been exponentially growing
and I heard that if you put clear nail polish on it,
then it will stop it from growing.
I don't even know what this is.
And then we have that accident
that really never got addressed
and my car is just really bad shape.
But hey, Sephora is offering
these cool free skincare facials.
So I'm gonna go and get one.
How does my skin look guys?
I just had it done.
So I don't know if y'all can tell,
but I just bought a lip gloss.
It's, what is this?
The Lip Gloss, Lip Gloss from MAC.
And it's like blinding.
You know, it's a great way to stay natural,
but also to put a little glam into your life.
One other awesome splurge at the mall
is that Great American Cookie.
I don't know if you've ever tried
the strawberry crinkle cookie,
but it's like heaven in every bite.
It just isn't fair.
Ooh guys, what do we think about these checkered pants?
I think they look super cool.
So I ended the mall trip with just some lip gloss,
but I'm really happy about it.
Now I'm going to meet Christian at the Cheesecake Factory,
cause he's pretty obsessed with the cheesecake here.
Look guys, if I was a burger.
Honey, how come you never say anything
when the camera's on you?
I don't know what to say.
They have the Impossible Burger here,
a plant-based burger,
but it tries to be exactly like a regular burger.
So I'm gonna try it and see what we think.
Ooh, the Impossible Burger.
It does look kind of meaty.
I don't know what this is all about,
but yay, I cannot wait to try it.
Alrighty guys, here I go.
The Impossible Burger.
Looks like the real thing.
It tastes like the real thing,
except without all the fat,
which may or may not be a good thing.
Overall, very happy.
And here is our whipped cream
with a side of cheesecake.
Hey guys, so I'm ready to go to my night shift
at the OB floor.
I'm very excited to work this late at night.
And I don't know, it should be really cool.
I've got my water,
I've got my computer to do some studying
because I'm pretty sure we're gonna have a lot of downtime.
And I guess let's just go.
Ready.
By the time that I come back,
it should be morning time.
It's really dark outside.
I don't know, to me it'd be cool
to like spend the night at the hospital.
So I'm really excited and I feel like a child.
Hey guys, so I am here at Gyne Triage,
which is like where women go
who are experiencing gynecologic problems,
including vaginal bleeding or nausea, vomiting,
things like that.
They come here, we figure out what's wrong with them
and then we figure out where they should go.
And so yeah, we're here.
There's only one patient, that's kind of slow.
So I'm just doing some reading
and that's been the first two hours of my night.
It's a pretty slow night.
So I'm just catching up on some reading
while we wait for some patients.
Hey guys, so I just got done with my shift.
It was really long.
I haven't slept since yesterday.
We're going on 24 hours without any sleep.
So I can't really vlog right now.
I'm just not in the mental state.
So I'm gonna go home, sleep
and then I'll tell you all about it.
Hey guys, so it is now Tuesday.
Tuesday, oh wait, no, it's Monday night.
So I have some coffee and in here I have a banana
and snacks.
I just had a full, I guess dinner
and we're gonna attempt another full night
except now I'm going to be in the OB triage,
taking care of pregnant patients and labor and delivery.
So it's just gonna be a long night.
I can already tell.
To get me through the night.
So let's get it.
First thing I do is that I write all of the patients
in the L and D rooms,
because you have to go say hi to them
if you wanna help with the delivery.
So I write their names down so I can go say hi to them,
how many centimeters they are and how dilated they are.
And once they're fully dilated, then we help them deliver.
It's a super awesome time.
So I'm gonna do that right now.
All right guys, so I am finished with my shift.
It's 7.13 in the morning.
I am pretty tired.
I haven't yet got into this whole,
right now I'm in traffic, but like morning traffic.
I was in OB triage all day.
It's women who are over 13 weeks pregnant
and it can be anything from abdominal pain
to I'm having contractions, I'm about to go into labor
to vaginal bleeding.
And we handle all of that until about five o'clock
and then we go to the postpartum ward
where the women who just had their babies go
to get watched for about a day or two
and we help the residents around in the morning.
Also during OB triage, we get to help out
at the labor and delivery room.
That means while women are getting ready to give birth
or are starting to have contractions,
we can get them like a nurse.
We can't really do much, I will admit,
but we can help them push.
We can give them like enthusiasm and be like,
hey, come on, one, two, three,
or you're doing great, you can do this.
We can do that.
We can kind of set up the bed.
We can deliver placentas, which is really cool.
I mean, it's really simple, but hey, we can do it.
We can watch C-sections.
One awesome thing that I actually learned how to do
during my rotation here is how to do ultrasounds,
which I don't know, I mean, like technically ultrasounds
are kind of easy to do, especially if you're just looking
for like the baby's head and the heart.
But hey, I am excited that I'm able to do that.
It looks really cool when you're able to handle
an ultrasound machine to somebody
who doesn't know how to use one.
And it's just another skill to add to my repertoire.
So, you know, like whatever doctor I end up being,
I know how to find a baby's heart on an ultrasound.
Okay, so 20 minutes later, I'm finally home.
First thing I do is I unpack my backpack
and then I'm gonna finish this last set of 10 questions
so that I can reach my goal for the day
and eat a ton because I am starving.
And you know, I gotta maintain my figure.
Hey guys, good morning, or actually good evening
because it is 5.47.
So I woke up around 2.30 and I've been on my laptop
watching YouTube videos about Cardi B.
I'm just gonna go finish my laundry,
relax a little longer, start on some homework,
and then go to work again.
So yeah, this is the life of the night shift.
Okay guys, so I packed my lunch, my backpack is ready,
and guess what, I brought candy.
This is Caramel Lover's Candy, Twix, M&M, Caramel M&M's.
These are the best things ever.
And the reason why I have candy
is because it's my favorite holiday at midnight.
It's Halloween.
Halloween.
I'm bringing candy so that we can eat this all night long
and enjoy the holiday spirit.
I'm really excited to do the night shift on Halloween
and I even get to do it tomorrow,
which I'm sure will be the more festive day.
I'm all packed up, I got a huge backpack
because I got a lot of candy.
So let's go.
And it appears like I have it all to myself.
Hey guys, I just had some lunch.
I'm here at the cafeteria, which is completely empty
because it is 1.30 in the morning.
So far, my Halloween night has been pretty good.
Nobody is dressed up and no one has eaten any of my candy,
but hey, you know, it's still dark outside
and eerie in the hospital.
So I'm having a good time.
Dark and creepy.
Who knows what lies beyond behind the walls.
I'm at work right now, post-surgery and it was interesting.
Gyne surgery is a lot different than gyne-onc surgery.
Good morning, it's Halloween today.
So you know, I'm starting the day with some candy.
I have tons of candy to give away to the kids
before I leave to work today
and then start my spooktacular night shift.
Enjoying some M&M's.
I love Halloween.
How am I supposed to give out candy
when it's freaking tropical storm Halloween today?
Yeah, kids aren't trick-or-treating tonight.
That really sucks.
Because I have all of this candy.
I don't want to give it to.
That's quite all right with me.
Because I can have my own fun Halloween night.
In case for whatever reason there's a kid
who decides he wants to go trick-or-treating after the rain,
I'm making a note.
Hope it doesn't look as weird as it sounds.
Now it's just me, some candles, hopefully some visitors
and the movie As Above, So Below, which I've never seen.
Having a little spooktacular movie night
right before my shift.
So, just living life.
So I haven't had one trick-or-treater
and I think I know why.
So the note that I made fell off my door and into water.
So it was in the mud, wet.
So no trick-or-treaters tonight.
Guess I'll have all this candy by myself.
There's literally 60 pieces in here.
Dang, that blows.
I just went and walked around my whole apartment complex
looking for children to give my candy to
and there was nobody.
There's nobody here.
There's no sign of life across my whole apartment complex.
So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take this bowl,
put candy in it, put it in front of my door
with a sign saying take and we'll see how much is left
by the time I come back from work tomorrow.
Okay everybody, I am ready and in my scrubs
and my compression socks.
So let's go ahead and get this eight hour shift started.
During the night, Halloween night.
Finally made it home with a beautiful sunrise.
Guys, so it's my last shift of the week.
My last night shift for who knows how long.
I'm hungry, cranky, had a stressful day.
I'm ready for this to be over.
Hey guys, I'm here with my mom.
I visit her in Houston and I visit my mom a lot.
I know because I just need her for mental support a lot.
Right, mother?
Yes, honey.
Mother!
And she also makes me a ton of food.
So every time I go home, I come home with a buffet
and that's awesome because you know I can't really cook.
So I always go home with mama's love
and look, she got me some Cheetos
and she got me some watermelon.
Y'all know I love watermelon.
And there's more in the fridge.
But anyways, the fattest animal in the sea.
