DAY AS A MEDICAL STUDENT _ LAST DAY
This video is sponsored by Sketchy Medical. Please be sure to stay tuned to the end for a new product
announcement and also possible giveaways. Hey guys! So welcome to my last vlog video. If you've
been watching me for a very very long time then congratulations! This is going to be the last
day of school for me so I just wanted to take you guys along and um join me in this wonderful
moment. This is probably going to be my last school vlog for the rest of my life because
I do plan on vlogging match day and graduation but as far as classes go this is going to be
the last one. So thank you to everyone who has stuck with me since the first vlog of my first
day of medical school all the way to now. If you want to see a med student go through their last
day of medical school then keep on watching guys. Okay guys let's get to school. Okay everybody so
I just got to school. Today we are going to be learning about medical jurisprudence or the
legalities of medicine and the reason that we have to learn about this is because doctors are sued
quite quite a bit. Most of the time it's because patients are in the right and doctors are
practicing malpractice but sometimes you know because of how often it is and how much money
that is involved our school and many schools all over Texas at least do try to teach their
students about what to do what not to do as far as getting sued and what patients can sue you for
and can't sue you for and I don't know it's very informative and I'm glad they're teaching us but
I really wish we didn't have to learn what not to do or what to do to avoid being sued versus just
being a good doctor. That's what we're learning and then after that I'm learning how to do
I'm learning about cardiovascular exams and different heart sounds and how to elicit them
from patients and all the pathology that goes along with different heart sounds so overall
pretty interesting day it'll end pretty soon because I get out at 12. I'll be right back guys
when I'm done with school. Alright guys so I just got finished with my classes um like I said we
learned about how to avoid getting sued and we learned about the cardiovascular exam and I
apologize guys I just got my lips done so they're very swollen and stiff so um I'm sorry if that's
really distracting in the video I really did not want to film this today but it's a monumental time
so you guys wanted to see it so here we are but for the rest of the day I just have an important
event to go to that I wanted to take you guys along with and some online assignments so let's
go take care of those things but first well maybe let's go take a nap. Alright guys so I just um
took my nap and I'm now ready to get back and engaged into school activity um so the last
activity or assignment that I have due for medical school is an assignment over the last hours of
living which is kind of a fitting subject um you know as my last subject in medical school
is you know how do you speak the language of relaying bad news to people how to talk to a
patient and let them know that you don't have much longer to be alive what can I do to give you some
comfort what can I do to help with you know arrangements when you are gone or how can I help
your family our job doesn't stop when our patient is gone because we do have to be there for the
family I guess I can share this story without giving away too much information but I don't
think I ever shared this before but there was one time when I had to tell someone's family that
my patient or not my patient but the patient I was helping with as a medical student
had died had passed away and uh it'll always haunt me as one of the most
sad just I mean if I just think about it right now I just get tears on my eyes as the most just
I've never seen something so painful in my entire life even though all we had done is give verbal
pain I guess verbal news it felt like physical pain when I told them they collapsed screamed
begged for help contorted in like really strange ways and looked like they couldn't breathe and it
was just so so hard to watch and to see but I think it was important to see because whenever
I'm taking care of like an elderly lady or somebody I mean I always remember that that's
somebody's grandma and that's somebody's mom or that's somebody's daughter or sister and if
anything were to happen to this stranger to me could be absolutely physical agony to them it
also reminds me that every human life is valuable and it makes me feel very very proud and special
to have this job that I fight that people ever have to hear that news I try my best that no one
ever has to experience that feeling and I know I will not always stop it I definitely will not
but I love that my job my job's purpose is to keep that from happening anyway let's get back to
studying and finishing this assignment um and then at six I have something to go to and I will of
course bring you guys along hey guys so I just took a one hour nap but now it's time to get ready
for something pretty important so let's go all right guys so I'm all ready um I've been chosen
to speak at a pre-med society here at a local university so it's um it's always nice to you
know be at the end of medical school or be in medical school at all and be able to give words
of wisdom to my fellow pre-meds because I was once in your shoes and um I just love having
being able to help you guys in any way possible usually it's kind of an opportunity for me to
meet some of you guys to meet some of my subscribers and it's always like really
an anxious experience for me because sometimes I'm like well what if they think I'm like
ugly fat or stupid or in real life but um luckily that hasn't come up yet so now I'm just gonna go
there guys and y'all are gonna come with me so let's see if we can teach some pre-meds
a thing or two about med school hi so I am here uh at the UTSA um wait do you guys know
UTSA women in medicine panel with these lovely ladies apparently they all have social media
that I can totally plug if necessary and we've seen all of these ladies about our lives um you
said you were OOT occupational therapy PA nursing medical student you guys already know that
all right guys so I'm walking with some of the officers and it was a wonderful excellent
awesome meeting it was mostly about the pre-meds wanting to know how we manage mental health in
our fields because we're all in different fields and we all have different ways of coping with it
and it was very informative and I just love coming out here and meeting you guys and teaching you
things and helping you guys on this really crazy road because back in the day guys there were not a
lot of youtubers or social media people in medicine at least that I knew of so I didn't
really have anybody to talk to about this experience especially since no one in my
family's in medical school so no one could really relate but being able to help you guys is probably
one of the best things that this whole social media thing has been able to offer me and if
you guys ever have any questions or want me to come speak at your events then please let me know
because I'd love to come and help you guys all right guys so I went ahead and did some errands
really quick got some groceries but now we are home and we can get back to being productive but
now we can get productive with snacks so I bought this cool snack at the grocery store it's 290
calories for this whole carton of strawberry ice cream and I think I know just what to do with it
eat it I'm just gonna work on a few things and finish off all of my assignments for tonight and
then close off with a little bit of yoga and then that will be my last day so let's get this
study night going
well thank you guys again for watching this video and thank you guys so much for just
being there with me throughout this whole med school journey I hope that this has been a
fascinating thing to watch me go from timid shy insecure totally just unsure about my capabilities
girl to now physician woman ready to take on the world and just so much more confident thank you
thank you so much it has been just my absolute dream to use this platform not only to like just
share my life with you guys but to use it to give back to you guys medical school is hard enough
wouldn't it be nice if you had like a friend or a guide to help you along the way and I want to be
that person so this video is sponsored by sketchy medical which is a company that I have been talking
about since the beginning of time I absolutely love this company and every time they want to
work with me and offer you guys some amazing deals I'm always down so if you guys don't know
sketchy medical are like online videos of sketches that seem kind of random but in each sketch there's
like a recurring symbol which means a certain detail about a certain pathology pharmacology
or microbiology or pathophysiology it is a great way to not only learn whatever it is they need
to teach but also remember it because you can remember the sketch if you remember what's in
the sketch you can actually remember details really well I'll insert some pictures of my
step one practice exams and you can see how much of a jump I improved because I was watching sketchy
like a mad woman my favorite video for step one was probably their macrolide video which is like
an edgar allen poe remake for step two my favorite video was um over there nephropathy and nephritis
videos because those are like really hard to get down and those videos really nailed it for me so
sketchy medical is coming out with a sketchy ultimate level two bundle their level one bundle
includes their micro farm and path but the level two bundle now includes sketchy internal medicine
pediatrics and surgery so this content is more so designated for step two studying and since step
one is now becoming pass or fail it has never been more important to do really well on step two
so this could prove to be very valuable essential material to do really well on your step two exam
the sketchy ultimate level two package over pediatric surgery and internal medicine has
170 videos over the most high yield topics in each video they really teach the pathophysiology
so you're not just stuck remembering symbols but you're also learning the causes behind the diseases
and also they start every video in like a soap note format so that you can kind of relate it to
reality so you can think of an actual patient the pre-sale for the sketchy ultimate level two package
is now available and they have six month and 12 month packages if you get the pre-sale you get
one month for free but be sure to use code america 15 for 15 off of your purchase and of course guys
it's not like i wasn't going to offer a giveaway or anything sketchy medical is willing to offer
my subscribers three one month subscriptions to either sketchy medical level one or sketchy
medical level two so if you're trying to study for your step one exam sketchy medical ultimate
level one is perfect for you and if you're studying for step two sketchy ultimate level
two is perfect for you all you have to do is be subscribed to this youtube channel and sketchy
