And today's video is a collaboration with Red Ted Art. Please go and check out her channel.
It's like it's 1991 again and we've got Pokemon Go absolutely everywhere.
Welcome to another video from Natasha Lee and I'm going to show you today how to produce these fantastic Pokeball French Tip nails.
It looks quite complicated but yet again it is quite easy, it's just a bit time consuming.
So as always I'm going to start by cleansing and filing my nails.
And I like to use 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean my nails but you can just use nail polish remover.
Now for this look I'm going to be using a regular base coat because we're going to be using some nail vinyls.
As you can see here we're just using some nice half moon shaped nail vinyls.
And this is just to give us that nice easy French line for painting the colour.
As always there's full links in the description of where you can purchase all the products.
Or if you've got something similar then by all means go ahead and use that.
It's best to not bite off more than you can chew so I'd say just apply these to one hand at a time.
And once you've completed that hand go on to your second hand.
I'm starting with the Master Ball so for this I'm using a nice deep purple.
And we're just going to apply it carefully around the cuticle area and up to the nail vinyl but not over, completely over the nail vinyl.
And I've just applied that to my ring finger but on my little finger I'm going to do the original Pokeball.
And using a nice red we're just going to do exactly the same thing again.
You don't have to follow me with which fingers you do which Pokeballs.
This is just a look that I thought was quite funky.
There's bound to be an influx of Pokemon Go nails actually hitting YouTube and the internet now.
But I've not really seen anyone doing any love balls and they're so pretty so I thought I'm on that one.
Just don't make the mistake that I did and Google love balls because you won't get what you expect and it's definitely not Pokemon.
On to the index finger and I'm going to do the Great Ball.
And every time I say one of these words with ball after it I really just want to giggle like a schoolgirl.
But I'm not because I'm a grown up and I'm going to get a grip of myself.
So back to the tutorial.
Now we're on to the thumb and this is actually my favourite black polish that I accidentally bought the other day.
And I am so impressed with this coverage.
It's actually overtaken the China Glaze Liquid Leather for being my favourite.
And you can see this is just like one coat and it's as black as the night sky.
Which is normally more blue actually.
So I'll just shut up now and stop verbalising all the silly stuff that comes into my head.
So this colour is really really good.
You could actually get away with one coat but I'm OCD so I'm going to do two.
Tidy up the design with a brush dipped in nail polish remover or acetone.
It's perfect.
And try to work quickly to get a second coat on.
It's really because ideally these vinyls should be removed after one coat of polish but that's not going to work with this design.
So you want to work quicker than I am.
Come on that, get a wriggle on, move a bit quicker.
Do you know it's only doing the voiceover afterwards I'm realising how slowly I paint my nails.
I can't watch anymore at this speed.
Even I'm getting bored and I filmed it.
So let's get a wriggle on and fast forward.
Once you've applied your second coat of colour to all the nails it's time to remove those nail vinyls.
Now when you remove them don't worry if any of the polish has seeped underneath.
We can tidy that up afterwards.
It's just in essence to get that shape of the smile line just to make it a bit easier for you.
If you don't have any vinyls you could always just paint it on roughly and then clean it up with a brush like this afterwards to get the same shape.
Now it's time to apply those French tips and I'm using Colour Club French tip because this only actually really needs one coat.
And we're going to apply this carefully using the line of the colour as a guide.
It will help you if you can do this on a table as you might be able to see just at the corner of the camera.
I'm resting my little finger on the desk and that helps you to keep your fingers and your hands steady.
Now the fun really begins. We're going to start applying some detailing and make these really look like pokeballs.
What you can see in the corner here is that I have a coaster that I cover with cling film to use as a palette.
And that way you can actually remove the cling film afterwards and just throw it away and then reapply some cling film.
I'm also using my Pure Colour No. 9 detail brush.
When you apply this onto your black it depends what your polishes are like but with mine it started to merge the black in with that first coat of yellow.
Don't worry about that at all. It's okay. On the second coat it will actually go fully opaque.
And just try to only go up to that line of the French tip. Try not to go any further.
Now I'm going to use this gorgeous colour from Essie to help me add the detailing to my masterball.
And I'm starting with a large dotting tool. I'm just doing this because some people find it easier to use a large dotting tool.
I actually prefer to use a brush to be honest as I get a bit more control with it.
But as you can see it still gets the same effect and you can swap to a smaller dotting tool to get right round the side walls and the eponychium.
If you do get any polish on the skin don't worry. Just use your brush dipped in acetone or polish remover to brush it off once the actual design is dry so you don't smear anything.
When I looked from above I realised I'd not actually done the two semicircles evenly.
So I just applied a little bit more of the purple onto a fine detail brush and slimmed down the larger sort of semicircle.
Again using my dotting tools I'm now going to put the detailing on the love pokeball.
And I'm starting with a large dotting tool just to choose where the two points of the highest part of the heart will be.
And then start to fill it in. Again I personally do find it easier with a brush which I will swap to in a moment but I just wanted to show you how you could do this with a dotting tool.
I'm just going to go back in and add a bit more detailing to create some more opacity on the masterball.
And if you need to go in and do a second coat on the love ball.
Now it's time to finish off the detailing on the ultra ball.
And we're just going to go in with our second coat of the yellow.
And as you can see here now that sorts out that patchiness and makes it really really opaque.
Don't worry about the nails looking a bit lumpy or bumpy at this stage you can't really help it with applying the different layers of polish.
But with a good one or two layers of top coat at the end it will flatten that all out and make it look really even.
Time to add a second layer of detailing to the great ball.
And for this I'm using the same red that I used on my little finger for the original poker ball.
Time to add the little M for the masterball.
And I'm using a lovely lovely lilac and a fine detail brush.
If you don't have a fine detail brush you might be able to do this with a needle or a needle point dotting tool.
I just find the brush a little bit easier to control.
This is now the stage that I love in nail art designs when you're putting the final detailing in and it makes the whole design really come to life.
And on this one we're going to need a steady hand just to apply a pale of pink around the heart.
And you can see if you do make any little errors or make it a little uneven like I did on this one.
You can just go back in over the top and even it out.
And finally add the little line in the centre.
Our poker balls are almost finished now.
Okay it's time for the point that I was dreading and probably you will too.
And we need to apply that thin black line between the French tip and the colour to really finish off that poker ball look.
Now if you don't have a steady hand I can't help you.
But if you are old enough to drink alcohol I suggest getting a stiff drink first because this will drive you insane.
If you end up with your line being too thick or wiggly or just a mess like this one was then just go in with a fine detail brush and some white and tidy it up.
Almost there now we're just going to take our largest dotting tool and apply a dot of black to the centre of each of the nails in the middle of the line.
And once the black dots are touch dry go in with a medium dotting tool with white and apply that in the centre of the other dot.
Finally it's time to apply our top coat to seal that whole design in and I try to apply this quite generously.
This is to avoid it smearing the design.
As you can see here I like to dab around the cuticle area and then gently draw that excess over the nail to avoid the smearing.
If you want a totally smooth finish then apply two coats and finish with cuticle oil.
And here are the finished nails.
Actually I really really like them.
I wasn't sure when I started this idea, I wasn't sure if Pokemon French tip, ball, nails things would work.
But I think they really do and I think it kind of adds a fraction of a grown up element to them.
What you can do if you have shorter nails, I actually found it quite hard to get the detailing on larger nails and make it look okay.
I think this design would look much much better on shorter nails.
And you could just do a square French line just nice and low down.
Thank you very very much for watching.
I hope you've enjoyed this.
