today I'm going to be doing a massage
for the lovely sopia we're going to be
doing massage to help relieve headaches
let's go ahead and get started if you
don't have time to watch this video
right now go ahead and just save to your
watch later and watch whenever you get a
chance
so one of the best things that you can
do when you're beginning a massage like
this for headaches is just to relax the
nerves and a simple way to do that is
you can if you're working on someone
that has long hair just playing with the
hair can stimulate the nerves in a
really healthy way and it can be really
soothing it can be really good to pull
the hair as well
to stimulate the nerves and the soft
tissue
and I'm not going to do this for a long
time
but I might start to pull just slightly
just to stimulate those nerves a little
bit
[Music]
more so when somebody has really bad
headaches there's usually inflammation
in the neck and you don't want to cause
more
swelling so just starting really Gent
gly is always a good way to go and I'm
just going to place my
hands sometimes these moments of
Stillness can be really
soothing and I'm just going to start
with some simple scalp
massage this is one of the best things
you can do to just calm everything
down and get the blood flowing a little
better
doing little
[Music]
circles if you're someone that wants to
do massage just for fun or for friends
this is a great way
to start it's pretty fail proof anything
you do is going to feel really good on
the
scalp and at this point I'll usually
kind of just
check um my client's face a little bit
um just to make sure that they're not
over clenching in their jaw
area and if I notice a lot of tension
they're all kind
of you know
plan that into the massage working on
that masser in the
[Music]
jaw and I really like to hug the
ears and you can even just subtly place
your fingers on that jaw to see if
there's swelling if there's
tension and that is one of the main
things
that contributes to headaches is that
clenching of the
jaw and just focusing on these
[Music]
[Music]
temples just doing little micro circles
if I'm picking up
on just a lot of um stress a lot of
tension I'll usually
linger around this area for a while
and if you feel kind of stumped like if
you are picking up on a lot of swelling
in the
neck if you kind of start deeper into
the
massage sometimes a more gentle approach
is better so just really spending a lot
of
time along this
hairline on that frontalis
muscle
that superficial muscle
that can get really really tense when
somebody's clenching their jaw
or just dealing with the day-to-day
stressors of
[Music]
Life using really light pressure here
doesn't really feel as good as just a
nice firm pressure but gentle really
stimulating that soft tissue
and the
[Music]
nerves and I'm going to go ahead
and start to shift
the Sophia's head that can work on this
right side
if I were to do this with floating arms
and hands I would get tired out really
quickly just taking advantage of the
support of the
table and honestly you don't have to
know exactly what you're working on if
you're doing
these um circular frictions along the
scalp it's all going to feel really
really
good
[Music]
um Obviously good to know what you're
what you're working
[Music]
on working my way towards this oxital
Ridge and just keeping my eye out for
any
swelling making some good progress in
these sub ocials like getting a true
release in
here usually helps more than anything
with actually relieving
headaches but you can't rush it and you
can't force it
[Music]
[Music]
either just doing little micro
circles and just making sure that my arm
supported you can usually see
see if they're swelling
without putting your hands on the
neck especially along that
SCM sometimes I won't even touch the
neck if it's really
swollen just kind of
stay in the areas where I know I'm safe
to work on
and if I'm finding higher areas of
tension I might just start to do longer
[Music]
holds and really encouraging my client
to relax their jaw feel that space in
their mouth as I work on this
[Music]
area and I do like to just gently work
on that
occipitalis just that superficial
muscle stimulating all that soft tissue
working
on this muscle and all this tissue along
the head can really be very soothing
[Music]
and if you feel like that sem is tight
and kind of a contributing factor but
it's swollen you can always work on the
attachment site right
here and you can kind of indirectly help
that muscle to just release a little
[Music]
bit if somebody has a ton of swelling
they obviously have a lot going on so at
this point would begin to talk about
like you know process
and you can't fix everything in one
massage and just kind of preparing
someone
for the level of care that they might
need to
actually address the problem better
and I'm just going to
backtrack do some scalp massage on this
right
[Music]
side and I do like to just kind of pause
before moving to the opposite side
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
and just making sure that Sophia's head
is supported the whole time so she
doesn't have to hold her neck in place
focusing on that mastoid process behind
the ear can be really
helpful
for soothing
headaches just slowly working my way
towards that ilc
Crest
and when somebody has
um more severe headaches there's usually
a pretty big difference between the
right and left
side which is kind
of
strange
but it's really important to make sure
that you're
using your time really well and
being strategic and how you approach a
massage because usually you know people
are paying really good money and they
want
relief you want them to be happy when
they leave
[Music]
doing these little circles
along the base of the neck focusing on
these sub oxital
[Music]
muscles getting some really nice release
in here
[Music]
[Music]
sometimes it can be really challenging
working with clients who kind of have
that
outdated idea that like no pain no
gain um but that is just not true a lot
of the time
[Music]
some level of discomfort is to be
expected but it doesn't have to be like
you
know really
painful I like to work on those
suboccipitals before landing above the
hairline on that Oxalis
this is probably like my favorite kind
of massage to do I
just love to be able to do this for
people be really soothing
[Music]
[Music]
and also just reminding yourself that
you can't fix somebody's issue in one
massage usually it's like a
process and just ending with something
really soothing I might
even play with Sophia's hair for a
minute
just always ending with something really
gentle and soothing whatever it
is and that is all for
