I'm back with a long overdue course vlog! Playing the back 9 of the South Course at Hylands... with a twist. Hitting driver on every hole in an effort to hone in my short wedge shots.

I'm out here on the golf course today
it's a beautiful hot Sunday evening it's
about 6:00 I'm going to go play nine
holes I'm going to play the back nine of
the South course of Highlands there's
two courses here North and South so four
nine holes this is actually the shortest
nine we have and I'm going to do a
little exercise today this will be a
course Vlog but this will be a driver
everywhere Vlog so this is a good drill
to get you shaping shots and uh for me
because this course is this nine is
short it's going to be a great exercise
for my short wedge shots and how good I
can make some puss to convert and
hopefully go really really low so let's
go here's the 10th hole on the south
course little dog leg right the green is
actually over there 370 y when I was
growing up there was actually tree kind
of in the middle left side of the
Fairway like 100 out so I'm going to
have to hit a big old cut to get this
thing up there in the
Fairway all right I caught that a little
off the heel though it didn't kind of
helped with the cut but didn't get the
distance I want got 78 to that flag
downwind gotta land this thing just in
front of the green and then bounce it up
and hope it doesn't release too
much well I haven't played out here in
probably 3 weeks and it's pretty firm
that shot landed just just on the front
of the green and it's releas probably a
good 25 to 30 ft past the flag so I got
to take that in consideration for the
rest of the
[Music]
night so I hit that 30 ft from 78 yards
30 ft that's not good and that's kind of
why I'm doing this drill this evening
because my most recent event at C4
shorter golf course with a lot of wedges
I hit 15 greens round one 14 greens
round two I shot 7270 finished in the
middle of the pack
and a lot of it was sure round one I
didn't didn't putt terribly well but
round two when I had those wedges I just
wasn't hitting it close enough so this
drill is basically trial by fire putting
me in the fire of having to hit wedge
shots short wed shots 3/4 wed shots half
shots and hit it closer to make those
birdie opportunities a lot easier 11th
hole now this is a par five short one
486 y there's a bunker right there
that's only 260 to cover so I have to
cover that with a little draw the wind
is off the right so this is one where
smash driver away going straight missing
right is better than missing
left hit a good drive floated at a hair
but the wind brought it back so I hit
just to the right right corner of the
Fairway here I've got 202 to the flag
and this is a very shallow green so this
is something where I probably want to
land at about
195 and be content with that so go with
six iron
here I was right in between clubs really
five iron would have been enough to fly
right to the pin with this little wind
into the face but like I said shallow
green short was better than long so hit
that six iron pretty well just a little
thin so it bounced up here but now I've
got a really nice look at
[Music]
Eagle
12th hole par three pin is way at the
back playing 2011 yards slightly
downhill but there's a breeze that's
kind of into off the right basically the
exact same shot as the last toll so I'm
just going to hit another six iron to
the middle back of the
green well this always helps hitting it
hitting at 8 ft from 200 yards kind of
makes up for hitting it 30 ft from 78
yds on
10
13th H Highlands 342 yard this is where
the driver everywhere challenge gets a
little more demanding because it's quite
narrow up at around 300 yard right
around there this is something where I
would just hit a three iron to 110 yards
and leave myself a nice smooth Sand
Wedge in but at 340 green is slop from
front to back more so in the front I
want to leave something within 40 50 30
yards of the green out there on the
right side so let's try to thread this
[Music]
needle got 30 yards to the flag h a nice
high fade and it's quite firm down there
so I'm sure it bounced and gave me some
good some good release but this is a
tricky one because the front pin has the
most slope to it so I'm going to have to
land this thing just a pace or two on
the green and hope it just kind of eats
into that slope and then just releases
to the
hole
[Music]
had the right idea just didn't release
as much as I wanted that lie was really
really tight so I wasn't going to try to
get much air underneath it but I give
myself the right leave 8 ft straight up
the hill little right to
[Music]
left well that was a bummer 8 ft I don't
know if I pulled it or if it just
bounced straight left off the blade but
I think never had a chance so I'm still
I'm two under through four holes I was
hoping that you know doing this drill
properly I should be able to shoot
anywhere from four to six under so I
still got my work cut out for me what
you see here now is actually let me spin
the camera around this is the 14th hole
400 yard par 4 very forgiving so this is
another one to just uh let that driver
fly I found the first got a rough wind
is kicking a little bit into have 129 to
that flag just need to chip a pitching
wedge
[Music]
here well I pulled that one this has
actually been the Miss I've been
fighting lately with these 3/4 shots is
the body's been stopping the arms go a
little fast and I pull it so that's
exactly why I'm out here working on this
driver drill to give myself these shots
so I got lots of green to work with here
so just an easy little pitch and
[Music]
run
15th hole par five 495 downwind wind off
the left so this is an opportunity to
just make a good golf swing give myself
an eye underne the screen and then have
a look at Eagle and maybe just walk away
with an easy
[Music]
birdie okay a couple holes ago I said
you know a good score in doing this
drill would be 4 to 600 par I don't want
that to be M misconstrued that I'm out
here focusing on score I'm not this is a
drill that's making me hone in on the
things that need to be a little bit
better in my game and if I execute
everything properly I should shoot 4 to
600 par two reachable par fivs five
wedges in my hands and then two par 3es
that are just mid-irons if I'm executing
as I should be executing should be a lot
of makeable Birdie putts and I should be
converting four to six of them so for
your game if you're going to do a drill
like this where you're going to go out
and be really really aggressive you're
not judging yourself on the score like
if I just stick on two under par I'm not
going to be like oh what a let down I'm
going to be able to look and be like
well I hit the first one to 30 ft I
missed an 8-footer I missed a green like
those are the things that I'm going to
pay attention to and those are the
things that are going to need to be
continued to work on so for your game
sure give yourself a score that might be
a little bit outside of what it would
just be comfortable and easy and then
you can kind of judge yourself result
wise on that but it's what got you to
that result that you can kind of pay
attention to and if I executed
everything boom and shot six under I'd
be like all right things are things are
tight right now I'm good happy with my
game but I'm revealing to myself what I
kind of already knew coming out here
that I need to hone in these scoring
clubs so that's what I'm out here doing
trying to do caught a pretty good drive
a little high on the face but just kind
of floated up there and the wind kept it
going I've got 202 to this flag 187 to
cover the bunker and the wind is helping
off the left so again I'm kind of in
between clubs because I think six iron
would be enough to fly right to pin high
but I don't know how firm these greens
are going to be and 187 downwind seven
iron should cover that and cover the
bunker maybe Chase up to the hole so I
think I'm just going to go with the
seven
well I made a really bad swing there
really thin and almost almost off the
hosle so I'm I got 44 yards here I hit
this well right short so now I got to
work for my Birdie on this
hole I've got 11 ft for birdie from 200
yard so I I've uh I've put some stress
on myself this hole but hopefully I can
just make a putt and get the heck out of
here and still make one back to par
[Music]
16th hole par three beautiful looking
hole little downwind it's 188 to that
flag I'm just going to chip a seven iron
here I could try to hit eight iron just
let the wind really take it but I want
to work on that little 3/4 shot so why
not do it right
[Music]
now but what do you know I pulled it
into the bunker left really making it
hard of myself today to to
[Music]
score
[Music]
17th hole now this is 325 yards the pin
is up front and those trees have really
grown in on the left since I was a kid
into the wind so I mean if it wasn't
into the wind this could get really
close to the green but I'm going to have
to hit a nice little kind of low cut to
get this up close to the
green it's pretty narrow up here and the
wind I hit it pretty well it was on the
right side of the Fairway but the wind
just drifted it right so now I've got
about a 70 yard little bump and run
under those
branches hard to score from the
trees I'm happy with the shot like it
wasn't easy just hitting the Green's a
good thing but I mean I've got 45 ft for
birdie so just need to lag this up here
close and get away with
bar
18th hole on the south course this is
where the driver anywhere challenge gets
interesting this hole is 350 but at
about 150 it starts to go downhill and
maybe at about 60 yards from the green
there's a giant pond so this tree right
here is kind of where the pond starts so
if I want to keep this in the Fairway
I've got to keep it slightly right of
that tree but inside these trees it's
going to take a little threading of the
kn
[Music]
here lost that one a little to the right
and caught some
trees so uh I've got like 120 yards up
and over these trees
lovely okay I'm happy with that shot I
got it up and over just didn't hook
still a lot of wind so it was just a
hard shot to get on the green scrambling
once again for
bar
[Music]
didn't hit a very good ship this has
been pretty frustrating hole so uh let's
make a
putt well guys that was a very
disappointing finish to a rather
frustrating nine holes it's frustrating
because didn't really execute what I
wanted to execute I hit a few good
drives but then a couple drives in trees
yeah I birdied both par fivs and I
flagged One On a par three but what I
wanted to go out and do was you know
hone in those little wed shots and I
didn't really do that so it's
frustrating but that's the point of this
game that's why we play it that's why we
practice um so I hope you learned a
little bit from this drill I'm going to
take away two things obviously I need to
keep honing in on exactly what I was
aware of but also I kind of let my
energy and emotional control dip a
little bit throughout the last kind of
three holes just getting frustrated with
the camera getting frustrated with
myself and it showed in my play so uh
chock that up to a learning experience
uh let me know in the comments below
what would your nine-hole benchmark
score beat so for me I Believe In My
Level it's 4 to 600 par so let me know
in below what going driver everywhere
making the course as short as possible
what would your benchmark
like did a good job scoring B uh give
this video a thumbs up subscribe if you
haven't we'll see you guys in the next
Vlog
