Heavy rain triggered by the remnants
of Hurricane Rachel flooded the streets of Las Vegas over the
weekend. Take a look at some of this video.
The National Weather Service warned of flash flooding
before the system moved in.
This is now the rainiest October 11th on track for Las Vegas
Valley. Streets from the lake parking lot
to the sphere were just completely turned into rivers.
And you can see the impact.
I mean, we're seeing some fast tides moving there. It looks like a
river in Las Vegas but really that's just the strip
and that was just a few inches of rainfall
but again that's all concrete so it's all it needs
and you're in a desert so you're not used
to getting even that that kind
of rain you can get over several months not in a couple of hours
so significant flooding there
that the eastern pacific hurricane season has just been crazy
right very active atlantic basin not so much
but of course we did have that hurricane over the
weekend producing rain up
and down the eastern seaboard here in nothing but heat and dry
conditions and we'll continue with that at least for a little
while longer that ridge of high
pressure still in place for us
so we're really quiet in most areas today and just look when you
talk about their monsoon season i mean we've really
for the last several months i've talked
about flooding in the desert southwest
and unfortunately that's likely going to continue
in some spots today. Look at all
that moisture getting pumped in across several states.
Meanwhile, here we are quiet.
The only issue, we'll have just more clouds compared to what we
saw this weekend. I think the heat is exactly the same.
Humidity levels will be a little bit higher.
We've got stronger southerly winds taking hold,
and you can see a lot of that thicker low cloud
cover currently to our south,
but that is going to lift northward through the rest of the morning.
So kind of gloomy and at times to start our day,
and then we'll call it partly sunny this afternoon.
It is also noticeably warmer.
It's still kind of comfortable with lows in the 60s this weekend,
but now a lot of us are in the low to mid 70s across the Metroplex,
areas outside of DFW, upper 60s, closer to 70.
Our south winds are up to 15 miles an hour with some higher gusts,
and it's that southerly wind that's pumping in moisture.
So we look at the dew point temperature
to tell us just how much moisture is available.
The higher this number, the more uncomfortable it feels.
Last week, dew points were in the 50s.
The air was a lot drier.
It felt pretty good in the mornings.
This morning, we have dew points in the 60s,
and these numbers are likely to go up a bit more.
I think through the day, mid to upper 60s dew points,
so there will be a heat index to speak of.
Tomorrow, dew points in the 70s.
That is just gross.
Tropical air making it feel a whole lot more like summer
and just uncomfortable out there.
So starting our day, just some low clouds.
That south wind is going to increase.
Temperatures quickly moving through the 70s, low 80s at lunchtime.
We'll call it partly sunny skies with some
of that low cloud cover breaking up.
Those winds will be strong, gusts to 25 miles an hour.
And we top out in the upper 80s and low 90s.
We're talking 10 degrees above normal for this time of year.
I am going 90.
You factor in the moisture and it's going to feel more like 96.
I know.
We just have to be patient, I promise.
There are some changes.
We are quiet this evening, still very warm and muggy.
Temperatures tomorrow morning likely a couple degrees warmer area-wide.
So more of those mid-70s,
thicker low clouds yet again with some breaks in the afternoon.
And like today, we're going to look to the south
and southeast for a low shower and storm chance.
So those are the areas where I'll put 10%.
But if you are around the Metroplex,
I have us rain-free until Wednesday.
The overall setup is changing.
This ridge is moving out.
We're going to see upper-level system in the desert southwest,
bringing in some disturbances.
So the first opportunity for showers
and storms for all of us will be Wednesday.
I think coverage will increase Thursday.
And then Friday, the system finally moves a front through.
And that's when those changes will be here.
So there's your forewarned seven-day forecast.
Highs in the low 90s.
Your feels like temperature today, 96.
It'll feel more like 100 tomorrow.
So super uncomfortable.
Those mornings also quite warm and muggy.
And then with rain and storm chances increasing,
our temperatures slowly drop.
By Friday, that front shifts to our south,
and we are looking at much cooler air.
The weekend is looking fantastic with morning lows in the 50s
and afternoons in the 70s.
