AI GeneratedThe Milwaukee Brewers are celebrating their advancement to the World Series after winning the NLCS. Team owner Mark Attanasio reflects on the immense pressure of the journey and the satisfaction of seeing his long-term organizational philosophy result in success despite years of criticism regarding player acquisitions and payroll.
Since 1982, the champagne is flowing in the locker room.
Yeah, the Brewers shoot it off when they win the division, right?
Yeah.
They won the NLDS.
Now they're doing it for the NLCS on the way to the World Series.
Great stuff out in Los Angeles.
The guys are celebrating.
They're having a great time.
No question, it's a very memorable time
for any baseball team to get this far.
And Mark Attanasio is the owner of this team.
Where does he live?
In Los Angeles.
But he owns the Milwaukee Brewers.
He's talking about his team tonight.
In fact, this morning I think I was more nervous than I've
been because this could actually have happened.
I couldn't imagine this could happen.
So in a way, for the responsibility I feel
to everyone as a steward for the organization,
it's the first time I felt pressure, real pressure.
And fortunately our guys delivered.
Mark, what was it like watching the game
as it progressed to get down 4-0 early,
to see the Brewers, the offense especially,
come back and kind of claw and scratch the way they did it all year?
what was going through your mind how were you feeling
at that point well first thing i was
concerned because the best player in the history
of baseball was waking up and you know and uh i
felt if we could get a run or two we'd be okay
then we got two and once we got the two runs i
felt like we had a shot mark
when you think about late 2004 early 2005 when this was all just
beginning how we always ask the players how are you different now than
then well i just want to
say uh somebody from espn radio probably long ago retired sat
in the front row when i did my
first interview in front of the media scrum
and said you won't be so cheery when you lose
for another 26 years so here we
are 22 years later we beat we beat the standard this is
satisfying for him he's taken heat over the years for not going out
and getting a guy who's on the
Los Angeles Dodgers and Skubal
and what are you willing to give up why don't you keep some of the
players that have left for big money
and he said hey I'm going to continue to put a product that
I think can win and here they're doing it
this year David Stearns now Matt Arnold running the
show running the baseball decisions for instance they
were going to lose Corbin Burns on a big
money contract right they traded to the Baltimore Orioles
for D.L. Hall Joey Ortiz that in time has
worked out pretty well for the Milwaukee Brewers they did
not trade for Tarik Skubal they kept
Logan Henderson, who would have been in
that trade package, reportedly at least,
he's pitching for the World Series Brewers.
Tarik Skubal and the Brewers is on the sidelines with the Dodgers.
Contreras, as you said, another guy whose contract is coming up.
We'll see what the Brewers do with that.
