NYC, NJ storm 7 p.m. update: Rain clusters over the city

Nick Gregory joining me here. Nick, I mean, we're looking at these live images from all across our area. At least it's the weekend and maybe people can sleep in. Hopefully so. That would be me too. Go back in the cover. Oh, yes. So the weekend's coming. It's going to be dry this weekend, but it's going to be much cooler this weekend and rather windy, particularly tomorrow. We've got to get there first. Got a line of some rain coming through, some thunderstorms. We've been worried about severe weather this afternoon and this evening. We've been under a severe thunderstorm watch. It's supposed to go until 10 o'clock, but you're going to see that these storms are moving fast. In fact, take a look at the latest satellite radar. There's a cluster of rain right over the city right now. And again, there's some strong storms that are moving into Connecticut. But after this line passes, I think that's going to be about it for the threat of severe weather. So I suspect that they're going to drop that watch soon. Now, the thunderstorm threat may go away, but the shower threat will continue through the night. So we're still going to see some rain overnight as this little cold front comes by, probably even into the first part of tomorrow morning particularly New York City on south and eastward and then we'll have the drier air come in as the day goes along the more sunshine just windy and cool tomorrow it's a little bit of everything this weekend yeah well we were in the 70s today believe it or not uh tomorrow we're going to struggle to get above 52 53 oh my gosh you can see on our future cast there's that area of rain tomorrow morning see it's like New York city south and east then it clears out i have a lot of sun tomorrow afternoon and sunny looks nice just cool again only in the middle 50s the average high should be about 64 so uh and then it stays you know seasonally cool this week mostly lower 60s we will be flirting you see here on this future cast there's going to be a coastal storm offshore see how it starts creeping up this is on Monday and right there yeah so this model is actually pretty aggressive some of the other models are not i think one of these days this week that coastal storm will throw some rain up into our neighborhood it's just a question of which day certainly with that proximity of that storm it's actually going to be rather windy this week i think as well tonight lows look at that in the 40s 49 in the city low 40s maybe upper 30s north and west uh 50 along the coast uh like i said tomorrow we're going to kind of struggle to get into the lower 50s and most of the area that's very strong winds can make you feel like in the 30s most of the time tomorrow uh tomorrow night's interesting okay tomorrow night we're going down into are you ready for this upper 20s low 30s, northern western suburbs. There's a freeze watch, actually, in effect for Putnam County, Orange County, northwest New Jersey, interior southern Connecticut, tomorrow night into Sunday morning. First one of the season, and we'll be maybe about 39 or 40 out the door in New York City Sunday morning. So we're seeing like a 70 to 20 range in a span of 48 hours. Well, you know, it is October, so these things do happen. Then you can see here in the seven-day, again, 50s tomorrow, low 50s, mid-50s Sunday. And like I said, kind of a gusty breeze Most of this week with that ocean storm, and it sort of put a mix of sun and clouds each day. One of those days, whether it's Monday or Tuesday, or maybe it's Thursday, Friday, we may start seeing some rain for that coastal system, but too early to tell yet. Well, so going into the weekend for people still maybe adjusting their plans, is there like a sweet spot of, okay, do it right here? Well, depends what your plans are, right? So, I mean, if you're going to be outdoors tomorrow, both tomorrow and Sunday, it's okay. The rain, again, New York City and south and eastward are showers anyway. Tomorrow morning, probably until about 10 o'clock in the morning. And then the sun will come out just about everywhere. Just as it's going to be windy and chilly tomorrow. Again, only in the low 50s. And Sunday is a beautiful, bright and sunny day. A little breezy still. And we'll only get to about 56 on Sunday. So, you know, most of the weekend is dry, just cool. Yeah, we're truly getting a little bit of everything this weekend. Yeah, it is that time, right? In October, of course, we're going to be waiting to see when the leaves will start changing color in New York City. I can't wait. Yeah, we're just a very spotty color now in the city. Some much better color, though, as you go up into the Mid-Hudson Valley, northwest Connecticut. They're starting to see some really nice colors are coming on. So give it another two, three weeks, and then we'll see those peak colors hit Central Park in the city and then Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. They'll all have their show. Good timing, too, because my mom was just visiting this weekend, from California. And she brought all my layers. Because this is the time, right? When every layer makes a difference and it could change so quickly, you've got to unlayer. And just wait. Exactly. Because you start in the morning, it's chilly. You're all bundled up. And then by noon, it's like, ooh, I start taking things off, right? Eventually, you're going to keep all those layers on when we get into wintertime. What are you doing this weekend? Oh, let's see. That's a good question. I was actually supposed to fly tomorrow. And I had two applicants. My other thing that I do is I'm a flight instructor. Oh, yes. And I'm also an FAA, what's called an FAA-designated pilot examiner. So I give flight tests on behalf of the FAA. The FAA doesn't have the staffing to do the tests. So what they do is they authorize people that they feel have the knowledge and the skill to evaluate applicants. So I had actually two private pilot tests tomorrow, but the forecast is for the winds to exceed 30, 35 miles per hour. So they both decided to, it's their decision, a good decision, they decided to cancel. Right, already good applicants there. actually. So the other fun thing we're going to do tomorrow is we are going to my godson wedding in December. He's marrying a girl from India. Oh, I love an Indian wedding. So they actually had a civil service here about a year ago, a year and a half ago, but her family lives in India. So they're going to throw a three to four day wedding in India. So we're going to go. So tomorrow we're going to go start to look at the appropriate clothing to wear. Get ready. That should be fun. I still have a lehenga choli somewhere in my closet. I don't know. I don't know if it would work for you, but well, maybe my wife, but, um, you know, but I think we're just thinking about renting instead of, because I don't know when we'll ever go to India for this wedding. We're going to India. Yeah. It was going to be a 10 day trip. Uh, never been, uh, you need 10 days for an Indian wedding, right? Well, I mean, the wedding itself is like, yeah, with all the events taking place, it's like four days. So, uh, we're, we're very, very excited. I'm jealous. this.
