Milwaukee carjacking, police chase ends in fatal crash

Our big story at 5, one person's dead in a chase and a crash in Milwaukee. Let's get right to our Derontae Matthews, who's live near 27th and Highland. Derontae, there's a lot more to this investigation. What have we learned? Yes, Sam, Ben, a lot more. Police say this entire incident actually started less than half a mile away from here. I kind of want to show you just a couple of feet behind me what's left of that scene that police just cleared a couple of minutes ago. You can still see shattered glass as well as bits and pieces of that car that flipped over by that median right there. Police say this entire incident started with the report of a carjacking leading to a chase ending in a crash with someone dying. Now, police say it began around 1:30 near 25th and State when a 34-year-old flagged down officers telling them that someone had just stolen their vehicle at gunpoint with a 33-year-old passenger inside. Milwaukee police caught up to that vehicle, tried to stop it. They say the driver sped away. Now, that led to here at 27th and Highland when they say that driver lost control of the stolen vehicle, flipped over a median, struck another car that had a 70-year-old in that car. The driver flipped over and was pronounced dead on scene. That 70-year-old who was in that second vehicle as well as a 33-year-old passenger in the first car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. We were able to catch up with one person who said his family was in the car when they heard this crash. I had my two daughters in my car and my wife. I can't imagine. It was a guy. Yeah. I was scared to death. Yeah, that witness we spoke to said after he had heard the crash, he had gotten out of the car and then tried to help the person who was in that flipped-up car before law enforcement got here. Again, police say this is still an active investigation right now. Reporting live in Milwaukee, Derontae Matthews, Fox 6 News.
