Lamar schools aide charged after allegedly hitting child

So over in the Lamar County area over in Barnesville, Barnesville police, they sent over a press release this morning and they said they were contacted by a foster parent who reported that her four year old foster child was struck in the face by a paraprofessional at Lamar County primary. They investigated and those allegations and they have said that the. The paraprofessional turned herself in. Her name is Amber Nicholson. And they are right now. Nicholson was charged with simple battery and cruelty to children, third degree, and turned herself in to the Lamar County Detention Center. No further charges are expected at this time. Yesterday, we did get a statement from the school system as well about this. They said they were taking, you know, any allegations seriously and they always investigate. We have all that on our website. But I do want to tell you that. The foster parent of this four-year-old child called the newsroom this morning, and I went ahead and had Ray Yerena, who's here, I had him go ahead and interview the foster parent and hear, like, so we can all hear what she said happened and her side of the story. So let's listen in to a quick soundbite from that interview. Currently, he's doing a lot better right now. He was, you know, really upset and frantic, and everyone he's seen, he was just letting them know that he was hit and that it happened at school. So I'm glad that he's kind of, like, moving on right now and, you know, feeling a lot better with us giving him that security that he needs at home. All right, Rob. The foster parent did say that it sounds like when she got the call, the school said in the text message or they told her that the child had hit the teacher. And then the teachers, the paraprofessionals slapped the child back. So that's what both sides are saying right now. We'll try to get more information as the story develops.
