Jets make MULTIPLE moves... Major Injury Updates
1 Video View·Nov 4, 2026
At 3.44 this afternoon,
Zach Rosenblatt dropped a huge tweet about two Jets roster moves,
and one of them tells you exactly where one of their most important
and best position groups is right now.
Here is the tweet, word for word.
The Jets are signing offensive tackle Blake Freeland off
of the Bengals practice squad
and placing Max Mitchell on the IR per source.
A tackle who was on another team's
practice squad is now a New York Jet.
A backup who has been out with a head injury is done for a while.
And while the Jets are 2-6, the Chiefs coming in on Sunday,
who is Blake Freeland?
And is this a real fix?
Is it just a body?
And what else is going on in these New York Jets practices
the week before the trade deadline
when they prep, potentially making huge moves?
The Jets signed Freeland to an active roster spot,
and the team's own release lists him as a 6'7",
302-pound player who came off of the Bengals' practice squad,
and before that, the Colts waived him on August 31st.
He played at BYU, and Indianapolis took him in the fourth round
of the 2023 draft. As a rookie, he made nine starts in 15 games.
That is real NFL tape to look at, too.
But it's not a straight line since.
In 2024, he appeared in eight games and played just 23 offensive snaps.
Then he missed the entire 2025 season with a fracture in his right leg.
So there's a guy coming off of a lost year.
And Heavy.com says that his last start was week 16 of 2023.
And his last appearance was week 18 of 2024.
That is a long time away from the field.
And a scouting report is not glowing.
NFL.com's Lance Zierlein called him, quote,
an unfinished product with a modest ceiling as a pro.
But here is the other side of it.
The Jets' release says he played 144 offensive snaps
across three Colts preseason games this August.
So he was healthy enough
to play real football just a couple of months ago.
That's the whole bet.
A 25-year-old, 6'7 tackle with nine NFL starts
who has been healthy this summer for nothing but a roster spot.
It's a cheap swing, and I like cheap swings
at this point of the season and in general.
Now, we also have to talk about the player
who this replaces in Max Mitchell.
Mitchell goes on the injured reserve.
The Jets drafted him in the fourth round of 2022,
and he has played 51 games with 17 starts for the Jets.
The Jets say he suffered a head injury in practice before week seven
and has missed the last two games.
Sports Illustrated reported he was in the league's concussion protocol
and had him listed as questionable, and now he heads to the IR.
And a quick note on what the IR means.
A player is placed on the IR,
has to miss at least four games, so the earliest Mitchell
could come back is after the Chiefs, the Bills,
and then two more games, two more weeks after
that.
But what does Mitchell actually do?
His role on offense is small.
The Jets cite Hazem at 22 special team
snaps through the first six weeks,
and Heavy, using Pro Football Reference,
Hazem at just two offensive snaps this season.
But he matters more than the snap count says.
Heavy Hazem is the primary backup behind left tackle Olufashinu,
and that is the swing job.
If Fashinu goes down, somebody has to play a left tackle,
and Armand Bembo will stay at right.
There was also a third move in the same release.
The Jets released cornerback Trey Brown from injured reserve.
He went on IR back on August 30th and has been on that list since.
Brown signed with the Jets practice squad last
November 11th after the Rams released him,
and he appeared in 10 games in 2025.
Five with the Rams and five with the Jets, mostly on special teams.
He is a fourth-round pick from 2021
with 49 career games and one interception,
which he actually did return for a touchdown.
And that is the real reason for the freelance signing.
It's not about replacing two snaps at all.
It's about not being one injury away from a disaster
at the most important spot on the line.
If you want to see the whole Jets depth chart too yourself,
it is on DigestSports.com,
so make sure to go take a look at that.
Now guys, obviously the New York Jets season is not going well.
On top of this, they are 2-6, and guys,
here is the live market brought to you by Calci,
as on Monday, November 2nd,
Kalshi had the Jets at a 43% chance to win 6 or more games this season,
and it hasn't changed since,
and a 30% chance to break the playoff drought in the 2027-2028 season.
I do want to thank Kalshi for sponsoring today's video,
because on Kalshi, you are trading against other users,
not the house like traditional sportsbooks.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcomes of events
across sports, politics, and even the weather.
For example, the Jets actually, you know,
winning more than six games this season,
which they have a 43% chance to do.
So you will be getting plus money.
And if you do trade $25, we have a great deal for you.
Because if you are interested in trying out Kalshi,
click the link in our description that's also in our pinned comment
down below and sign up for Kalshi.
You can go digest NFL.
And you will get $55 when you trade your first 25.
It's a great deal for you.
It helps the channel out a bunch as well.
And guys, we are pumping out content for you on Jets Digest.
I know you've been seeing a lot of Josh recently, but...
This ugly face is going to come back
in and make a few more videos as well.
Don't worry, Josh is going nowhere.
So what does the rest of the injury list look like as well
before they play the Kansas City Chiefs,
a great team on a two-game skid?
Well, there is no new practice report out with these moves.
So this is where each player stood going
into the week from the most recent reporting.
The big one is Breece Hall, though.
Sports Illustrated expected him back for week nine
after missing five weeks with a right quad injury
that he suffered in the week three loss
to the Detroit Lions.
On the edge, David Bailey was listed as questionable
with a groin injury after missing his first NFL game.
And Joseph Asai has missed three games with an ankle injury.
He was held out of practice before week eight.
So his Chiefs status depends on how much he works this week.
And the injured reserve list keeps growing as well.
Sports Illustrated lists six more Jets on the IR who could return.
Devontae Sweat with a knee, David Onyemata with a groin
who's been injured the entire season, Kiko Mavigo with a quad,
Marcelllo McCary-Ball with an ankle, Kingsley Johnson with a thigh,
and Tyler Barron with a knee.
There are two out for the season in Braden McGregor
and Arian Smith as well.
That's eight players, and Mitchell makes nine.
Football is a game of attrition, but at some point,
Depth is not a luxury.
You need it as a plan, and you need to plan your depth well.
Now, look at the Raiders game,
and you can see why the Jets want everyone healthy.
Braylon Allen, filling in for Brees Hall,
ran for over 147 yards on 21 carries,
with 121 of them being in the first half.
Over those last five games Hall missed,
Allen has 504 yards.
He's been excellent and a fan.
BritRug2676 said, quote,
Keep him.
I'm sick of hearing about Garrett or a Brees trade.
And ECVAS6974 wrote, quote,
If you can get a second rounder for Brees Hall, yeah, trade him.
But otherwise, I would keep him, which makes sense.
So we will see Brees and Braylon Allen kind
of switch time as well, be a one-two punch.
And Glenn said on Monday that we're
in the business of keeping good players
and that Brees is still a part of this team.
The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10th
at 4 p.m. Eastern, so less than a week away now.
And honestly, guys, I do think the Jets could make some moves,
but I'm not expecting a ton of big moves.
But back to the offensive line,
Dylan Parham is another good sign
as he did return against the Raiders
after missing four games with a knee injury,
so they do have their left guard back.
The interior is healthier than it was,
and the tackle spot is the one
that Freeland is there to cover overall.
Now, here's what this means for Sunday.
Overall, the real story is how this team keeps losing.
The Raiders game ended 38-33,
and the Jets scored a season-high 33 points
with a season-high 23 in the first half.
Geno Smith threw for 290 yards.
Adonai Mitchell had a career-high 142 receiving yards
in an excellent game that included some touchdowns,
and they still lost.
The Jets went two for six in the red zone,
and Dylan Lobey returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
That was the first kickoff return touchdown
in the NFL this entire season.
Glenn put it this way.
We can't have critical penalties in situations.
We can't have.
And quote, we can't give up a touchdown on the kickoff.
He's heard about both, but that's the same speech we keep hearing.
Oh, well, we can't keep doing this.
We can't keep doing that.
Fix it.
Because look at this pattern overall, guys.
The Jets own a notebook that says they've
dropped five of their last six games
by one score, and three in a row.
Heffy says they have started two and six
or worse for four straight seasons.
There's a team that loses every game.
A bunch of them this season have been close,
and it's happening the same way.
At some point, you've got to look at coaching.
And Glenn was asked about his future and said,
my job is improving this team.
Senator Josh Myers also backed him, saying,
I just know like in my heart that he's a great coach
and there are still nine games left.
So maybe he does turn this thing around
in his last ditch effort.
So does Freeland change any of that?
No, he's not a game changer.
He's insurance.
And on a team that has watched this many injuries pile up,
insurance is not nothing at all.
It's something that we have to be aware of.
So here's where I land on this move
if I'm being honest with you guys.
Freeland is the right kind of move.
No trade, no draft pick, nothing given up,
just a 25-year-old tackle with nine starts.
A lost season behind them and a healthy August.
The IR move for Mitchell is the honest part.
It means this is not a one-week issue.
They are gonna have some depth issues
if they weren't to sign Freeland.
So here's what I'm watching for on Sunday at Arrowhead.
One, does Freeland even dress for the game?
Two, does Brees Hall come back and take
the load off the offense a little bit
and get into some receiving back situations?
And three, does Aaron Glenn's team finally close out a game
that it has led or been tied in?
Because the answer to all three is no so far.
And if that is the answer, the roster moves won't matter.
They're going to have to make a bigger change upstairs.
So the Chiefs game is on Sunday when we find out
whether the Jets can protect Geno Smith.
Whether Hall will be back or not,
how that offense can score 30 points again
against one of the best teams in the NFL.
In the comment of the day, DannyFerry3366 wrote,
and yet there are idiots who still buy merchandise and tickets.
Not me. I live in Florida and I'm two blocks away from the ocean.
Better ways to spend my Sunday.
Well, you know what? It's not in New York.
It's cold and I live in a fifth-story walk-up,
so I go from cold to sweating and out of breath
because I'm not in very good shape.
So, you know.
Congratulations, I'm happy for you.
I really am, Danny, but I'm also bitter about the Jets
if it doesn't come off as genuine right now.
Oh.
But that is the frustration, and it's fair,
but I think it's why moves like this does matter.
When a team's 2-6, you find out who is still building something
and how teams are looking.
So tell me, is Freeland a smart pickup or just a body?
Drop it in the comments down below, guys.

Have a wonderful day.
We are still going to have fun every single game.
and the entire time and go Jets forever, no matter what.
Can't get rid of us fans that easily, but it sucks.
