American Husband Tries Exotic Australian Food
Crocodile?
What do you guys eat over here, dude?
Oh my goodness.
You're offending literally every Australian.
Can I bring some unusual food in for you?
I would love that.
Thank you.
No problem.
What?
Gabe made me record that clip, okay?
Okay, hold on.
We have to tell the story really quick.
So originally I was gonna open the door
because I talked to that lady on the phone.
Then time comes, of course, my butt goes,
you need to take a dump.
So I'm sitting there.
All the time.
The funniest part is though, Jess comes in,
and she's like, you gotta open the door.
I'm like, do I look like I can freaking
go open the door right now, Jess?
Anyway, now she's probably watching this
and now she knows.
I figured it was gonna be a Uber Eats situation.
Knock, open, here you go, enjoy, whatever.
We grab it, you know, close the door.
Done, nice and tidy.
Wrong.
She came in to drop it off.
Yeah, and also there's like baby toys everywhere.
And also, I was pooping with the door open.
I was thinking about that.
I literally heard her walking like, oh crap.
I like leaned forward and I grabbed the door
and I ripped the towel off the door to close it
because I went to close the door and it wouldn't close.
Oh my gosh, it was a full thing.
What a good start.
Look at this, Australia.
What a cuisine we have here today, ladies and gentlemen.
Okay, I'm excited.
Multiple members of our team thought it'd be a good idea
for me to try pure Australian cuisine,
since I'm American and my wife is Australian.
And we are right now here in Australia.
So what they did is they contacted a private chef
who just made a bunch of meals and I'm taste testing.
We.
The.
We.
We, sorry.
But like, it's more so for my opinion though,
because you've already had this stuff.
Yes, Tasting Australia.
Tasting Australia.
By the other chef, Church Mouse Cheese.
Honestly, how adorable is that?
She made a menu.
Yeah, that's cute.
So we don't really know what we have in store.
But we have the menu items right here, so.
Up first, meat pie.
Yum.
Oh my gosh, there's the freaking fly.
There's a fly that's been in our house.
It's moved in.
It's set up shop.
Oh my gosh, it's literally trying to.
He's trying to eat my pie.
It literally was trying to eat my pie.
And is there a sausage roll in there too?
And saucy wossy.
Traditional meat pie and sausage roll.
There we go.
They kind of look like the same thing,
just packaged differently.
You know what I mean?
With a little bit of, as Australians call it,
tomato sauce, not ketchup.
Is sausage roll like an eat it with your hands
sort of thing?
Kind of like that?
Tickle off.
Yum.
All right.
Now let's go.
Yeah.
Ten out of ten.
Ten out of.
Oh, I just love sausage rolls.
Now is the meat pie the fork and knife version
of the sausage roll, basically?
You use a fork?
Okay, wow.
A lot of people use just their hands, but it's messier.
All right, I'm doing it, just my hands.
But yeah, do it over that, because it'll spill.
Apparently, scientifically, things taste better
if you use just your hands.
I don't know, I definitely probably read that
on social media somewhere, so who knows if that's.
Believable.
That's more elite than that.
Really?
For sure.
Don't tell me that that one's not better,
that that one's better.
Dude, what are you?
I'm gonna do a nine out of ten,
and a seven and a half out of ten.
Seven and a half?
Yes.
Wow, you're hard to please, honey.
Seven and a half is still good.
That means it's more on the enjoyable side
of the scale than not, you know what I mean?
But it's not like I'm gonna go out of my way
and pick this if that's also there.
Does that make sense?
Sure, for that, I agree.
Nine and a half and a ten.
That was a good start.
I have pie all over me.
Oh, not pie.
Does Kanga Banga mean what I think it means?
This is it, Kanga Banga, right here.
Just need to put this out on the table,
just like you put that on the table.
Oh!
I can't do this one.
You can't.
No, no, no, like I cannot do this one.
Because I know what Kanga Banga means.
It means kangaroo, doesn't it?
It feels weird.
You know what the person said,
which is a really weird fact,
that Australia's like the only country
that eats all the animals on their national symbol.
Oh, nice.
So, shout out, Australia.
Interesting, it's a sausage.
Oh my gosh, wow, that is deceiving.
Like you would see that at the supermarket.
And think that's a beef sandwich.
And just think that's some,
okay, Australian.
Yeah, did you see that at the market?
I think it's a beef sanger.
No, it's not even a sanger, sorry, it's a snag.
I got it wrong.
Snag, what's a sanger?
A sandwich.
Oh, and a snag is a?
Sausage.
Sausage, yeah, yeah, nice.
All right, so I have to have it with the gravy
and the mashed potatoes all in one thing.
This feels-
Mashed potato and gravy looks really good.
Honestly, that sausage looks really good, too.
Don't tell me that sausage doesn't look good.
I have heard that eating native animals,
like kangaroo, et cetera, is actually very sustainable.
But I just like, my heart.
What I'm doing right now feels, it feels weird.
At least it's in a sausage form,
because we eat beef sausages a lot.
Hmm, no.
Oh my gosh.
I'm kidding.
I was like, are you okay?
It's actually good.
Is it?
Yeah, the gravy and mashed potatoes, great.
The sausage also tastes great, but it's also like,
I think it's like the way it's seasoned
and the way it's made convinces you
that it's like just some other meat.
Wow.
You know what I mean?
Does that make sense?
What's the, okay.
You wanna take a bite?
No, thank you.
So you gotta rate it.
Oh yeah.
Honestly, I'd do like an eight and a half.
It feels wrong.
It feels-
It feels so weird.
What's the next one on the menu?
Okay, chicken parmigiana.
Here it is.
Which is different in America.
You can, I've seen chicken parmigianas on menus in America,
but it's a pasta dish, which is wrong,
but also, oh yeah.
Someone's a know-it-all.
See, stop pointing that so close to my face.
Jess has this weird, we should probably talk about it.
It's probably a condition or like a phobia.
It is a phobia.
You looked it up, remember?
It's basically, and I had it when I was really little
and it only came back in pregnancy and it hasn't gone away.
And it's like, if something sharp is pointed at me,
like-
That's my finger.
It just like, no, sorry.
It just feels like I'm gonna be poked in the eye.
Please, is anyone else like that?
Let's start a community.
Gabe teases me so much.
I just, I think she's so weird.
Anyway, this is a real chicken parmi.
In other parts of Australia, they call it a parma.
Also wrong.
Sorry.
I need some of this.
I need some of the bacon that's on top too.
A little bit of those onions.
Gotta love a good wooden knife.
Clink.
Chicken parmi.
Yes, that is a good parmi too.
That's a really good parmi.
10.
Nine and a half.
I wanna give it a 10, but then also like nine and a half
cause I'm like, there's gotta be something better out there.
You know what I mean?
Meat pie.
I'm gonna go nine and a half as well.
I think.
Well, I think that's the highest rated item so far.
Up next is one that-
Is tracking this in my calories tracker.
Let's see if it comes up.
Kanga banger.
Oh my gosh.
It, yeah.
It does.
Okay, the next thing on the menu.
Is that, isn't it?
Yeah.
We'll let you guys just read this.
It is emu steak with sauce.
Now, for those of you who don't know what an emu is,
like all my Americans, it's basically,
this fly is gonna annoy the crap out of me.
An emu is the equivalent of like an ostrich, right?
Emu steak.
Dude, if someone puts this stuff down in front of you,
you would have no idea.
It just looks like regular steak.
It's literally just like.
I also need to sit out of this.
Really?
Yes.
Dude, come on.
I just can't.
Dude, you're all shown.
You're the one who eats this stuff.
No.
You said at the beginning of the video,
you've eaten all this stuff before.
No, what?
Yes, you did.
Rewind.
Rewind the clip.
But like, it's more so for my opinion though,
cause you've already had this stuff.
Yes.
Okay, I've never eaten emu.
Have you eaten kangaroo before?
No.
You haven't?
No.
Isn't that like a normal Australian thing?
Not for me.
In a little sauce?
Mmm.
How do you feel?
Not a fan of the taste of emu meat.
Yeah, I definitely, I mean,
I've only been taking one bite anyway,
but I definitely don't need another bite of this one.
Wow.
Yeah.
I don't even know how to say it.
Also, I can hear the fly.
I can hear the freaking fly.
Oh my gosh.
There she goes, there she goes.
There she goes.
Final thoughts.
Still feels wrong.
Tastes wrong as well.
You didn't like it.
I, yeah, I'm not a fan of emu meat.
I'm just gonna put it out there.
Up next, Bunnings style sausage and bread
with onion and tomato sauce.
Mmm, so this is an Australian thing as well.
Bunnings is basically-
Home Depot.
Or Lowe's.
Lowe's.
So imagine you're going to Lowe's on a Saturday
and you rock up and there's like a big tent out the front
and-
Rock up, translation,
you pull up to the front of the store.
And there's just a bunch of like barbecues,
grilling sausages.
Sausages, onion, and you basically put a sausage in bread.
Instead of a normal hot dog bun,
it's literally a slice of bread.
And it might be like-
That you just like fold it over.
Two dollars or something,
and everyone looks forward to a Bunnings.
Wow, she truly made it.
This has the proper like to-go packets with it.
And you don't have these in America too, right?
The ones that squirt like that.
Sausage.
What?
Is this a new like invention?
You kind of get both sides and you squeeze it
and it'll squeeze.
Okay, ready?
Just watch.
Okay, I feel like this is gonna...
Let's see.
Wow.
Is it broken?
Okay, you try yours.
Wow, in a slice of bread, that just feels so wrong.
Oh, ugh.
See, that's what it's meant to be like.
That's actually a great invention.
It's amazing.
How has this not come to the U.S. yet?
What?
Okay, this one's broken.
Clink.
Okay.
Makes sense.
But it's also like, I'm not a huge hot dog guy.
And then also like the bread just throws me off.
Cause I'm like, there's a different solution to this.
That's a bun, you know?
There's just something about that.
It's simple.
Compared to the other ones we've eaten,
I'd probably rate that an eight.
Yeah?
Yeah.
I'm gonna go seven and a half.
I'm gonna go same with the sausage roll.
Okay.
Oh, what is that?
Zanga.
Zanga?
What is this called?
A sausage?
A snag.
A snag, that's it.
I knew it was like an S or something.
Or a banger.
And a banger is a...
Sausage.
A banger.
And a snag are both the same thing.
Yes.
What?
That's why it's called a Kanga banger.
Oh!
A kangaroo sausage and a snag is...
Ah!
That makes so much sense.
Next menu item.
No, you can do that, honey.
What?
Crocodile?
Oh my gosh.
What do you guys eat over here, dude?
Oh my goodness.
Again, something I have not eaten.
I don't know.
I can't participate.
I don't know if I would eat kangaroo or emu.
I won't eat the emu cause that didn't taste good.
But like, I don't...
You wouldn't like to get on a menu.
Yeah, it feels weird.
But, people do.
Okay, so what is this?
Aioli or something?
Yeah, it's definitely...
Yeah, that smells like aioli.
Can you smell that?
No, I know you're gonna shove it in my face.
Dang it!
I wanna do it so bad.
You would not.
I did my makeup.
I just wanna get the little tip on your nose.
Just a tip.
You knew I was gonna say that.
You said you'd be like...
Ha ha ha!
Ha ha!
This one feels weird cause it's a reptile.
It's like eating a frog or something.
A lizard.
Or like an iguana.
Oh!
A Florida iguana, like the one that tried to run.
No, we can't even go there.
Oh my gosh.
That would be the worst.
We're a bit scarred from this.
Oh!
Hmm.
It's good.
Is it?
Yeah.
Describe it, honey.
We don't just want a 10 minute video of Gabe eating.
Words, bubby.
I'm processing, shush!
I'm processing.
It tastes like chicken, like fried chicken or something.
Does it?
There's no difference.
Maybe like, it feels like there's a little less flavor,
but then also chicken doesn't really have flavor either.
Close your eyes and think it's chicken.
Yeah.
Really, it just tastes similar to chicken.
That's...
Very bizarre.
That is bizarre.
What would you rate it?
A solid eight.
Wow.
I think because it's fried.
Like, fry anything and it tastes delicious,
you know what I mean?
But, that's good.
Oh, and enough.
I hope you guys really enjoy this video
of just a bunch of planes.
Here's a little plane compilation for you.
Hello, plane.
Oh, I know a freaking plane.
And the planes.
Hi, plane.
Oh my gosh.
Hurry up.
Hey, Virgin Australia.
Hold for a plane.
Next up is a deep fried dim sum.
No idea what a dim sum is,
but we just established that fry anything
and it's delicious.
That's crazy.
So, I didn't realize dim sums went in America.
Is this an Asian dish?
This is Chinese.
I'm pretty sure.
Chinese, okay.
Blink.
Blink, blink.
So, is there meat in here?
I think so.
It's kangaroo.
Don't say that.
Yeah, I think it's meat and, like, vegetables.
Oh, yeah.
It's yummy.
Yeah, that's legit.
Okay, what are we rating it?
I'm gonna say eight and a half.
Eight.
All right.
It's so good.
Now, we have the desserts.
I'm so excited about this.
Are the last two desserts?
There's three.
Three desserts.
Ah, I see.
The final line says.
Don't spoil it, babe.
Whoops.
Nothing.
Dessert number one is the pavlova.
Now, this is very controversial to some people.
What?
Why is this controversial?
Is it Australian?
Is it New Zealand?
Oh.
We've, like, had that chat before.
This looks elite.
This looks so good.
Holy Toledo.
I need to be honest.
I don't think I've ever tried pavlova,
but all my life I've said, like, I don't like it.
This might be my first pavlova.
Wow.
So, wait, wait, hold on.
Time out.
You've never had pavlova and you're like,
I've had pavlova.
I know, but I never ate it with you, did I?
I don't remember every single time I had pavlova
and if you decided to take a bite or not.
It's like every Christmas my family makes pavlova.
This video is not turning out the way that I thought it would.
This is, like, a very popular Christmas thing.
Like, my family makes it every Christmas,
but I don't think I ever, like, ate it.
You know what's also really cool about this?
Is that we should just eat it.
I knew you were going to say that.
Okay.
Three, two, one, drink.
I don't know if I've ever tasted that before.
So, you're telling me every year
that your family would make this,
you would never have it with them?
No.
You're a frickin' crazy person.
So, I guess this is, like.
This is so, this is a 10.
Wow, I mean, she crushed it.
She crushed those pavlovas.
If I had to rate it, like, out of all the desserts
that I would pick in the world,
that's not a 10 for me, but it's still, that's really good.
Honestly, that's true.
I'm going to give it a 9.5.
I'll give it an eight.
I mean, that's pretty high up.
I'm just such a dessert girlie.
You're convincing me.
Yeah, I know.
I think in the moment, it just tastes so good,
so I'm, like, being generous.
But if you were to line it up
with a bunch of different desserts,
I don't know if I would pick it.
Yeah, I'll 8.5 it, 8.5.
But that was good, though.
That was good.
All right, next up is a lamington.
You have had a lamington before,
but it'd be rude not to, you know what I mean?
Lamington is like a sponge cake
covered in chocolate and coconut.
Which also doesn't make any sense,
because, like, just say the word lamington.
The end.
It sounds like it should be some sort of lemon dish.
Lamington?
No.
Yes, yes.
Am I wrong?
Yes.
Am I freaking wrong?
Subscribe if I'm wrong, all right?
Also subscribe if I'm right.
Either way.
Either way, just hit the button.
Clink.
Yeah.
That's good.
That one, I feel like you could eat more of the pavlova.
This would probably, like, fill you up faster.
That is so good, and just, like,
lamingtons are such a staple.
Have an eyelash.
Thanks.
Make a wish.
Did I get it?
This is so stupid.
For desserts, out of all desserts, 7.5.
Oh, but, like, picture having a cup of coffee
for morning tea, and you have a lamington.
That's a nine.
More than the pavlova?
This is a nine.
Is it a nine because you can have it
with a cup of tea in the morning?
Yeah.
So that's, like, your...
I think it's also...
That's a very strange, like,
metric that you're basing this off of.
Like, there's also, like, taste, texture,
you know, those sort of things.
Those sort of things.
It's nostalgia, and I think the setting
that I picture lamingtons is, like,
people are coming over for morning tea.
We have cups of tea and coffee and lamingtons,
so it's a nine.
Okay.
Next, I know what this is.
It's called fairy bread.
I've never tried it before.
You've never tried it, so that's exciting.
One, because I'm a hater of the fact
that you don't call it rainbow sprinkles
and you call it, you call it fairy sprinkles,
or what do you call that?
Hundreds and thousands.
Then where the...
Okay, both wrong.
Are these freaking rainbow sprinks
or hundreds and thousands?
Any birthday party that you go to as a child,
they will be having probably a whole loaf of fairy bread,
and it's just incredible.
So I'm really excited for you to try it.
A piece of bread, and then you put butter on it,
and throw sprinkles on top.
It just makes so much sense.
It's also nostalgia for me.
Eating that is like, I'm at a birthday party.
I'm 10 years old.
That's like a two.
You're offending literally every Australian.
If you know, you know.
Sorry, that's horrendous.
As a kid, I'm sure it'd be like,
oh my gosh, bread with sprinkles on it, yummy.
But as an adult...
No, adults don't eat that.
It's just kids, but it's very Aussie.
Sorry, this is my very American opinion,
but I have to put my foot down on this one.
That is un-American of you, Bubby.
No, American of me would be like,
don't call it fairy bread.
Take the rainbow sprinkles off,
throw the label out that it said hundreds and thousands,
put the rainbow sprinkles label on,
pour yourself an ice cream cone into the thing,
and then put the rainbow sprinkles on the ice cream cone.
Then eat that.
Then it's...
Sprinkles.
That's just what a comedian called them,
and I thought it was hilarious,
so I haven't called them rainbow sprinkles ever since.
For me as an adult now, I can't write that high,
but as a child, that would be like nine, 10 out of 10.
Now I would have to rate it like a five or a six.
The nostalgia would bring it up.
This box that is in my hand is never to be opened again.
Do you feel more cultured now?
Honestly, now I'm very proud
because at this point in my life,
I can officially say that I've tasted Australia.
Officially.
If you want to see me taste other parts of Australia,
you can click the video that is on Jess's face right now.
Bye. Bye.
